( THIRD PERSON POV )
A week went by without any noticeable incidents. Rei's condition got better by each passing day. Rei still couldn't bring himself to accept his father's death despite knowing he died. Knowing he can't see his father for the rest of his life pained his heart to a great degree. For Rei, Tensei was a pillar of support. Rei continuously wondered how he is going to live the rest of his life without his father.
While Rei was slowly recovering, Shirogana planned the small funeral for Tensei. He immersed himself into it so he could not remember Tensei's death. For Shirogana, Tensei was more of a brother than a friend.
The doctors prepared the necessary documents for Rei's discharge as all his physical injuries were cured. Rei only got a few stitches and scratches. He was saved from major injuries as his dad pushed him away. Shirogana took care of all the necessary formalities needed.
Rei for the first time came out of the hospital after a week. Rei walked out with the help of crutches per the recommendation by the doctors. The doctor reminded Shirogana about Rei's mental stability which is still in chaos.
After Shirogana helped Rei into the car, they both left towards Rei's house. Reaching his house Rei finally felt in peace seeing his house after an entire week. This very house held many dear memories of Rei together with his father. As he stood in front of the door, Rei felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned and noticed Shirogana's hand on his shoulder, "Take your own time Rei. There is no need to feel anxious."
Rei took a deep breath and entered his house. He slowly made his way towards the hall. He kept the crutches aside as he could walk fine without its support. He sat on the couch and looked around feeling nostalgic. Shirogana then spoke out, "We will go to the funeral the day after tomorrow, Rei."
Rei in return simply nodded. He was already informed that the funeral would take place the day after tomorrow. He then simply said, "I would like to stay alone here Oji-san."
Seeing that Rei needs some space, Shirogana took a piece of paper and wrote something. He kept the paper on the table beside the couch and said, "Ok then Rei, this is my number so if you need anything call me."
Shirogana turned around to leave. He then shouted from the door, "Don't forget Rei. If you need anything, call without hesitation."
The door closed and Shirogana went away. Sensing he is finally alone, Rei exhaled and sat down quietly on the couch. He started to reminisce about his days with his father.
* FLASHBACK * ( REI-3RD CLASS )
Rei was sitting on the couch seeing some cartoons being played on the television. At this moment Tensei enters the hall. Tensei sighs seeing his son watching television again. He tries to gain Rei's attention by coughing but fails to do so. Seeing how focused Rei is, Tensei slowly goes back of Rei and tickles him.
Surprised by the sudden attack, Rei immediately starts to protest trying to hold his laughter back, "Stop haha it hahaha Otou-san. Please haha."
Noticing he finally gained Rei's attention, Tensei stops and snatches the remote from him and turns the television off. Seeing how Tensei turned off the television, Rei begs him for it, "Otou-san please let me see the tv. I completed the homework given by the teachers for the summer vacation."
Tensei sternly tells, "Go out and play some games instead of seeing the tv all the time." him not moved by his son's wails.
Rei then replies immediately, "But Otou-san I don't know any sport or game."
Tensei then thinks for some time and tells Ret, "Ok then let's go to the park and I'll teach you how to play a fun game."
"Ok then, but if I don't like it I won't play it."
Tensei nods and tells Rei to get ready. Rei then goes up and changes into something more comfortable to wear and goes down. Noticing Rei came down, Tensei goes with him to the park.
Upon reaching there, Tensei hands a baseball glove to Rei and helps him wear it. He then moves a bit back and shouts at Rei, "Ok! Rei, get ready to catch the balls I throw and throw them back."
Rei nods and gets ready. Tensei then throws the ball slowly towards Rei. Rei slowly goes towards it but fails miserably to catch it. The ball doesn't even touch the glove.
Rei goes and picks up the ball feeling depressed. Sensing Rei feeling depressed, Tensei shouts, "Don't get depressed Rei. It's still your first time playing so there are mistakes bound to happen."
Rei then throws the ball back at Rei. Tensei throws the ball again towards him. But this time the ball touches the glove and bounces off. This time Rei doesn't feel depressed and gets more determined to catch it.
They both continue to play with each other and Rei continues to miss them. Rei then suddenly stumbles while catching but dives to catch it. Dust covers everywhere and then Rei shouts, "Finally, Otou-san I caught it."
Tensei smiles and notions him to return the ball. Both of them continue until the sun starts to set. Seeing the time is almost over, Tensei stops and tells Rei to come near.
Rei goes near and Tensei ruffles his hair and asks, "So, was it fun Rei."
Rei nods in agreement and replies, "Yes Otou-san it's fun. Can we play again?"
Tensei nods and both of them make their way home.
