Bab 2: Skills

The Ye family is one of the very well-known families in City 3. Some people say that if you plan to visit Quiemo, China, especially City 3, it is a must to visit the Ye Museum because if you don't then your trip wouldn't be complete. Their museum is full of relics, recordings, antique belongings and other unique things that will surely attract the interest of not only tourists but locals as well. The Ye family spends their time searching, collecting, and preserving such historical items primarily for educational purposes. With this, they are one of the most respected families in the city.

The present head of the Ye family is incredibly strict when it comes to his children. He does everything he can to prepare them to inherit their family's legacy, to prepare his successor.

"I don't want to have this kind of life. I'm tired of this. This is insane. Doing the same thing over and over again and then they expect different results every time." Ye Qiu has been sitting in his seat for not more than fifteen minutes and it's already too much for him. He leaves the room now caring about what the person standing in front of him would say.

"Ye Qiu come back here!" a man who appears to be around 70 years old calls, Ye Qiu. He seems like a professional instructor based on his appearance and his aura.

Teet! Teet! Teet! Teet! Rings a play station which is the only thing you can hear in another room. A kid sits in front of the play station. Focusing on the game displayed on the screen.

"Easy… one, one… jump to the right… then behind… and then… Surprise! Haha! Stage Clear! Flawless…"

Bang! The door opens loudly.

"Ye Xiu the old man's calling for you. It's your turn now. Move it" Ye Qiu enters the room.

"Fifteen minutes? That was fast?" every day, between 3:30 – 5:30 PM, the twins have tutorial lessons for proper manners, social etiquette, history and business management prepared by their father. The current family's head, their father, didn't even bother sending them to school. It is much more convenient to bring the school at home than sending his sons there, according to him. It also gives his sons less distraction when it comes to studying. No friends mean no distractions, saying if he could do it then his sons, his own flesh and blood, could do it as well.

At the age of 14, they are trained and are being lectured thoroughly for business management and, what they consider the agonizing part, history wherein they have zero interest in. It's like studying math even though what you want to study is science. So, the amount of knowledge you intake is low because one of the most important things in learning something is interest. Interest is important in learning new things because it makes it easier for a person to take in new information because they enjoy what they're learning.

For as long as Ye Qiu could remember, they've been receiving these lessons ever since they were 5 years or so years old. Their father decided that at such a young age, the two of them should be knowledgeable even of simple things in order to survive the world. The business world that is, much to their chagrin.

"I don't care about it anymore. Whatever dad does or says, I'm running away from here." With that, Ye Xiu sighs.

"You've said that like a hundred times already but until now you're still here. If you wanted to run away, you would have done that long ago." Ye Xiu laughs at his younger brother. Twenty minutes younger of a brother to be exact.

Twenty minutes, that's the gap between the twins when their mother gave birth to them but then, she passed away shortly after. They don't know much about their mother. The both of them refuse to ask their father no matter the circumstance. They mostly heard about her from some of their helpers. They say that she is one of the kindest people they've ever met. Some even said that before she passed away, before she was even pregnant of the both of them, their father and her were truly, genuinely happy. The mere thought of their father smiling sent a chill down both of their spines.

Even though he had the air of sternness around him but at the mere sight of his wife would soften his features. The crease in his brows would disappear. He would unclench his jaw. His eyes would only focus on her alone. They say that when you see them together, you could really see the love that he has for his wife by the way he'd look at her. Which, people thought was kind of terrifying if they were brutally honest because he's thoroughly strict and emotionless in front of others and yet there he was standing with hearts in his eyes in front of his wife. People claimed that they were perfect for each other. Her calm presence would soothe his stern personality.

That was that but then after her passing that's when their master 'changed.' He dedicated his time to work. Refusing to let even a single minute go to waste. All of them though that it was because working himself too hard would distract him from her passing. The twins may not have known nor were conscious of it, but in the past while they were still babies, their father refused to look at them. He ordered their maids to give them a separate room so they would not 'distract' him from his work, though they know that looking at them would only remind him of his loss.

The twins grew up without their mother and with that, their father had to work twice as hard to take care of them. With the help of their aunt who still hasn't married yet despite her age. She's the one who has been helping their father take care of them as they grew older.

"I'm serious this time. I'm seriously mad this time. I'm leaving for good." Ye Qiu hisses. He's been biting his lip ever since he entered the room, he can't take any of this everyday routine anymore.

"Just tell me when you're gonna leave. Want me to help you pack? You can survive living by yourself, right?" Ye Xiu teases his brother.

"So what if I can't survive on my own? Someone is bound to help me, right?" Ye Qiu replies, worried.

"I highly doubt there are that many people willing to help a stranger. If they do though, you might end up in a foster home. You're still a kid and that's what adults would most likely do you know?" Ye Xiu looks at his brother after finishing another level of his game.

"And, if someone is willing to help you at least make sure you do have the skills to survive on your own. If they leave you alone that is. Like recommend you a good place to stay other than a foster home or whatever. You need to know how to survive on your own." Ye Xiu gave his brother a bit of advice.

"Skills?" Ye Qiu grows quiet for a moment. Thinking if he will be able to survive in case his escape would be successful. Then, he remembers cooking.

Ever since he was young maybe around nine years old, Ye Qiu would always stand by his aunt whenever she cooks or even beside their maid when she prepares for their dinner. There were also times that he would be the one to do some of the steps in cooking just because of his curiosity in cooking. He looks at his brother who starts another level of his game. Clearly only giving his brother half his attention.

"What about you? Don't you plan on leaving this place? Though, you don't have any skills to survive outside even if you wanted to. How are you supposed to get any skills at all if all you ever do is play video games?" Ye Qiu points at the monitor.

Ye Xiu looks at the monitor as well and asks himself. Skill? And then he smiles.
