From the airship, everyone could get a proper look at the nature side. Frozen Milk had already experienced it and seen it all from the months he spent there, existing, surviving and exploiting. It wasn't a memory he wanted to remember.
The nature side was only a big large jungle, separated into smaller jungles by the toxic river. The trees were all different sized and could even reach as high as a skyscraper. And on those tall trees were buildings built with wooden bridges in the air connecting them.
If the water side seemed like a place lifted into the air by water, bright and blue, the nature side was a place supported by trees were people truly lived above the ground, it was earthy and brown.
Frozen Milk didn't bother to look at it. Just the sight of it made him despair. Instead, he glanced at the bewildered and astonished expressions of the others.
"So, this is what it looks like," Glimpse Water had tears in his eyes. Was he moved to see his creation?
"This hell hole looks even more terrifying than we both described it, father! Why did you have to make things harder for us?"
Ah, he was crying because he also was despairing.
"How are we going to survive?" Glimpse Water's tears just streamed and formed a puddle on the ground.
"Please explain yourself," Holbe still had no idea of the true terror the nature side posed.
It denied one the most primitive yet most important right to live. Water.
Because the river, the water in the world was toxic, pure acid, people couldn't drink it. The water in the water side was originally toxic too but thanks to the holy powers they acquired they could purify the water yet the nature side didn't have the luck.
Frozen Milk gasped and took Holbe's hands in his, "Oh, holy beauty you're truly a blessing."
Prota wanted to cut between them but remembered his grief and just watched while Glimpse Water got what Frozen Milk meant after a whole second and joined him,
"Ain't that right! You're the shining knight in our life!"
Glimpse Water too touched Holbe but Frozen Milk kicked him away. He was afraid Glimpse Water would return to his harasser self and had to endure the consequences.
"Father, you don't need to be jealous. I only have yo-"
Frozen Milk kicked him again.
"You know how you purify water, right?"
Holbe was taken aback.
There was a special place that was responsible for doing this on the water side, so the citizens didn't have to worry about it. In fact, most of them didn't even know the water was toxic.
"So the rumours of the famous acid water is true?"
"Yes, yes!"
"It isn't impossible for me to succeed."
That was good. Frozen Milk even thought they could use it as a bargaining chip. Regain peace with the water side and you'll get clean water.
However, the details of the negotiations had to be discussed between the kings of each side. The hero was only there to bring them to that point and would never be involved in politics.
"But if the water is truly acid, then how do the people in the nature side survive?"
This wasn't something Frozen Milk wanted to tell Holbe. The reason why the water people call the nature people barbarians wasn't unfounded. Even though most of the water people didn't know the origins of that stigma, the various rumours only made them hate the nature people more.
Because the nature people needed pure water, the kings of the previous generations have ordered to kidnap those with holy powers from the water side, thus it sparked the feud between the two sides.
Of course, the amount of people they kidnapped wasn't much but it aroused the anger of the water kings. People with holy powers were sacred to them yet were reduced to labour slaves in the nature side to be abused and thrown away once they've exhausted themselves
The water then available in the nature side was expensive and only nobles could afford it, however, the kings knew they couldn't just let their citizens die, so every month, every small jungle was given a set portion.
And thus because of the shortage of water, the nature people slowly evolved into not needing as much as water a normal person would need.
"Can I get an answer?" Holbe indifferently looked at them.
Frozen Milk cursed his holy beauty was an icy beauty and wished he'd have written her as a budding and cheerful maiden. The regret once again skyrocketed him into the heights of his hatred.
He glanced at Glimpse Water and Glimpse Water glanced back at him. Neither wanted to be the one to say it.
Prota caught this glance exchange and again felt like something stabbed him in his heart. It wasn't something. It was Frozen Milk not even hiding the knife in his hand.
Frozen Milk gave in, "The king still has resources but apparently they're a secret."
He didn't say anything else, it was vague yet not a lie. Holbe didn't inquire further and he let out a relieved sigh.
It was finally time for them to land. The nature side didn't have many tourists or visitors, so the few places that provided the hospitality were incredibly expensive.
"You all took money with you, right?" he stared blankly into each of their faces until his own contorted into a mix of ***.
It was too eye-assaulting to describe.
"Father, d-don't get angry, we were in a rush."
Frozen Milk had to command every fibre, every muscle in his body to not move, to not explode, to not want to disintegrate into poison gas to choke each of them.
"How are we going to survive?" in Frozen Milk's ears the dam of his tears breached and filled his whole body with salty water that poured out in masses of sweat.
He was going to die!
"It won't be that bad," Holbe didn't deem the situation as dangerous.
Of course not for you, nor the protagonist nor Glimpse Water because you all can just live off your faces! The males would just pour all the money over you, the females would literally beg for the two godly males to rob them! Fuck! What about me?
Frozen Milk wasn't a fatal beauty nor a handsome Adonis!
"Just end me," his death wishes were now spoken out loud by him. He didn't even want to hide it.
"No worries, we can try to sleep on the ground first."
Yes, Frozen Milk did it in the beginning before he extorted people and stole their houses.
Wait!
He shot up. Those houses could it be they were still empty? And even if the old owners lived in them again, once they see him they were bound to listen to him, no?
"Ahahahah!" an all familiar evil aura surrounded this scum relapse.
It was time for Frozen Milk to shine again. Screw his way too fast character development from a low life to a decent person! Here comes the all-familiar and loved Frozen Milk!
The embodiment of human trash!
Frozen Milk had to admit, he kind missed acting like a gangster, like a mafia boss to exert his non-existent powers over people, to breathe fear into those small fry characters. It was what made him alive in the first place and now he'd return to his roots.
"AHAHAHHAHAHA!" his habit of letting his evil thoughts out loud also returned.
"What's wrong with Frozen Milk? Does he have a divine vision?" Holbe turned to the two disciples.
Glimpse Water had a bad feeling and sweat-dropped as he saw the cloud of dark aura enveloping Frozen Milk, "M-Maybe."
Prota, however, walked up to Frozen Milk, hit him in the nape and then carried the unconscious Frozen Milk in his arms.
"Let's go," was the only thing he said to the blank statues before he walked into the nature side.
When Frozen Milk woke up, he felt like he was having a deja-vu. A rather nice one. The soft and plum feeling under his head made him feel comfortable and he wanted to be wrapped up in a blanket, however, he had to get behind this surprise.
"What am I doing in your lap again?"
"Your disciple hit your neck a bit too hard and broke a bone. I'm currently healing it."
Silence.
Frozen Milk had to process what he was told. This humongous drop of information... and then-
FUCK! You ungrateful bastard! You shameless protagonist! First, you ignore me and then you fucking try to murder me? Huh? HUH? HUHHH?
Frozen Milk's eyeballs were about to roll out. All the veins on his forehead bulged and then finally popped. It was a disgraceful sight like an octopus with severed tentacles running around, desperately trying to save its last dignity.
"I'm... sorry," Prota wore his all-familiar puppy face and finally properly looked at Frozen Milk.
"You..." Frozen Milk sighed and wanted to turn his head but Holbe stopped him.
"You'll die."
Frozen Milk gulped and froze on the spot. He couldn't move! He didn't dare to move! Curse this!
He knew his protagonist probably, probably, didn't mean it but this was way too much!
"Whatever," however he forgave him yet Prota, on the other hand, thought Frozen Milk now didn't want to have anything to do with him even more.
"Where are we?" Frozen Milk couldn't look at anything but Holbe's face, the trees and the dark sky.
"Somewhere in the jungle."
Frozen Milk was tired of giving reactions so he just shut up and shut his mind too.
After a while, he said, "I might know someplace to stay but let's just spend the night here. We should take turns to keep watch."
"I'll do it," Prota moved away from them and sat at a tree further away.
"Where's Glimpse Water?"
"He's scouting the area."
Frozen Milk wanted to nod but felt extreme pain in his neck. Startled, he immediately remained to live as a stone again.
Please let this night be gone quick. Please let this night be gone quick.
"How long do you need to heal me?"
"Soon, you should rest first."
Frozen Milk didn't need to be told twice and drifted off to sleep.
Holbe watched this messenger of the Lord while she poured her powers into him. Just like a day ago when she healed him before, she felt this uncanny aura in him. It was dark and alien.
It definitely didn't belong to him but it was already gone and the traces left inside of him weren't enough to figure anything out.
Holbe froze and narrowed her eyes. She knew something wasn't right with Frozen Milk. The first time she met him, he was full of light. But now the light in his body was constantly accompanied by a dark thin string like a hair that floated around in his body.
Holbe was able to see the constitution of a human. If they were full of bright light they were normal but if they were red inside, it meant they went corrupt and evil. Yet this was the first time, she saw pure black mixed in someone's aura.
However, she didn't know how to break it to him as she wasn't able to grasp this black string. If it was something toxic, she would've been able to pull it out of a human just like the corrupt and evil red and purify them, thus she was 'holy'.
But even though Holbe grabbed the black thread surrounding Frozen Milk just like now, it only disappeared, she couldn't trace or investigate it at all. If she didn't pay attention, the black thread reappeared and tied itself around his organs, his heart and his brain.
If she didn't do anything, Frozen Milk's face distorted in pain and it'd make him suffer. So, she instantly cut the strings.
If she wasn't here, she was sure he would die. She had to be with him at all times and rid this cursed thing from him.
Sooner or later it'd destroy him.
She took a deep breath, she wasn't sure if she was able to stop it or if she was skilled enough to do it.
But the thing that worried her the most was the dark thought that crept into her mind. Why should she exhaust herself to save a stranger like him?
