With a few stumbling steps he created distance, and when Yuan Xuelan recovered and pulled himself off Liu Sumeng, talismans were withdrawn from the emperor's sleeve. Yuan Xuelan recognized them and cursed at the sight.

He raised his arm to protect his face.

White light came with a deafening blast, heat licked at his face. Although it was not enough to scorch the skin off flesh, Liu Sumeng's quick barrier served as the slightest bit of protection before icy dragons were summoned forth to quell the flames.

Yuan Xuelan cursed as he squinted past the throbbing pain behind his eyes, forcing his vision to steady.
