Mimi didn't intervene while Shen was talking on the phone with someone, even though his voice was not loud when he spoke, but Mimi's ear was sensitive to sound so she could hear their conversation clearly.

Mimi knew that Shen was talking with her brother-in-law, Luke Vander. Mimi used to love Luke in the past. But her love for Shen was different from her feelings for Luke in the past. Mimi had never love Luke the same way she fell in love with Shen.

Mimi was too young to differentiate between admiration and love, so she wasn't unhappy when Luke looked at her with cold eyes. Mimi thought that Luke was so handsome when he was unreachable & untouchable.

Mimi realized that her feelings were not more than admiration after Luke got married to Elena. Shen also started to pursue her when she had lost her feelings towards Luke. Later, Mimi realized awe and love are two different things.
