Under the night sky of Los Angeles, the 58th Directors Guild Awards ceremony was underway at the national headquarters of the Directors Guild of America. The guest seats were fully occupied, with nominated directors, stars, and media reporters all in attendance. The eight television directorial awards had been handed out, and the documentary film award was lifted by Werner Herzog for 'Grizzly Man'. Now, it was time for the ultimate prize, Best Director for a motion picture, and the entire venue was silently watching the stage.
