We both made our way into the room cautiously, while Aurelia had a third teir steel wall ready to cast on standby just in case. In the center of the room stood a horned lightning bear, standing about ten feet tall (~3 meters) pure black sparks occasionally appearing on its body. Once we were fully in the room the door behind us closed, and thankfully we were able to keep the buffs Aurelia cast moments before. When the door closed I used inspect of the bear just before it made its move.
Demonic Lightning Bear
High B-rank: Boss Class
Seeing what we expected I was glad that it didn't turn out to be an A-rank boss, which could have caused significant troubles for us. At that point in time the boss bolted its way towards us with a high concentration of not just lightning but even infernal mana behind it. I started dashing forward as well and just as Aurelia cast her steel wall I made a dash to the side to run around it. The boss unfortunately didn't have the time to change direction and directly ran into the wall, momentarily disorienting it. Not only that the wall also bent and rebounded back at boss with the same power it ran into it sending it back several feet.
Once I made it to the bear It had already reoriented itself, and was swinging its paw at me, at the same time I swung my scythe. Ducking below the paw my scythe bit into its abdomen leaving a long scar in its place. Rotating around the bear using the momentum of my scythe I activated elemental stomp on the back of the knee using that same momentum. Using the force of the kick I did a double backflip to a spot a few yards away from the boss, as ice energy covered the bear, freezing it. The boss also fell to the ground on its knees from the impact of the kick. At the same time a spinning inferno of fire and shards of steel surrounded the bear instantly melting the ice, and causing the bear to be momentarily stunned by the sudden temperature change. I could tell the the boss was on it's last ropes as I activated severing slash appearing right behind the defenseless boss and swung the scythe towards its neck. Despite the high vitality and strength of the boss class monster is was a lower general rank than us, it put up its best fight but it wasn't enough. As the head of the bear went flying these thoughts went through my head, reminising of the carefree boss fights in the VR games our team played together. I made quick work of the Bears corpse skinning it with the plenty of experience I had from games. It didn't take long to finish skinning the bear, due to the improved speed and agility and afterwards I placed it all in storage. I then decided to see what level we reached with the experience from the boss fight.
*Congratulations on reaching level 15, new abilities are now associated with your scythe.
*You have reached level 17.
'Wow, I didn't expect to get so much experience from that boss, I mean it makes sense, because it's a boss but still,' I though to myself when I saw how many levels we got from the fight. 'We should search the room for what the issue is before we do anything else though.'
"Hey Aurelia, lets search the room to see if we can find out the source of the dungeon corruption," I suggested as I started to search the room. It didn't take long before we found it at the end of a hidden tunnel in the room, and what it was was pretty shocking. It was an high S-rank Demon core, if we had taken any longer to get here the boss would have probably upgraded to A-rank in no time at all. It is to be noted that Demon cores are much different from mana cores, only a natural born demon can have them, not even demonic creatures have them. Demons are well known for their powerful bodies as well as their vast mana pools, making them very hard to kill. So whoever is behind all of this is at least at the SS-rank, which is far above our abilities at the moment.
"Whatever is going on we need to report this to the guild as quickly as possible," I hurriedly say to Aurelia who tacitly agreed with me.
