Bab 404: Xia's birthday
"Did she sleep late last night? Is something wrong?" Xia wondered as he opened her chat to text her.
But Chen had beaten him to it. There was already a text from her that read, 'Hii! I'm so sorry but I forgot to tell you yesterday. I have another meeting with Braken and Associates the whole day today. I'm familiarising them with my code. Though I'm not sure they understand it. I'll be working on it for the better part of the night, so probably won't be able to get up on time.'
There was a second text that read, 'Also, Happiest Birthday!!! I so badly wish that I could celebrate with you, but I have zero time tomorrow. So sorry!! I'll see you when I get back okay? Love you. Miss you.'
Si Xia sighed as he looked at the time the text was send. "2:17 huh? She really must have been working late." he muttered to himself as he tossed his phone away.
Xia's mood had been spoilt due to Chen's untimely bailment, so he decided to take a day of the workout. Instead he took a long bath and made breakfast for himself.
"Well I guess it's fine. We can celebrate afterwards anyways. After Chen has bagged Braken and Associates. And it's not like I had anything planned, like I'm 25 now. And so done with birthdays." Si Xia spoke, waving his chopsticks in the air and finally looking at his companion for a consent, which he got by the way of Oreo looking up from his food and giving him a bark.
"I'm talking to my dog. Wow." Xia muttered as he picked up his half eaten breakfast and chucked it in the fridge.
Fifteen minutes later, he walked down from his bedroom in a casual sky blue shirt and black pants, hair messily slicked back.
"Ugh! I really never liked my birthdays." Si Xia muttered as he headed out.
As he said, Si Xia had always hated his birthdays. Which wasn't actually surprising if you thought about it.
Xia had spent all of his childhood in an orphanage, where birthdays meant a greasy cake and not the pampering every other kid in the world gets.
And after he was out of the orphanage, he didn't really have many friends to celebrate it with, or money to celebrate.
By the time he made friends, in high school, Xia had come to dislike his birthdays so much that he had stopped celebrating them altogether. That had continued till now, only exception being that he would take Hua and Zenghai out to dinner every year and they would video call Chen back in London.
Si Xia sighed as he parked his brown Ferrari and took the elevator to the highest floor, to his office. But it was all supposed to change this year.
Yu Chen was finally back, and Xia planned to throw a little party for their close friends. Of course, no one knew about him and Chen, so it would need to be very selected people. But . . . . . For the first time in many, many years, Xia had been looking forward to celebrate his birthday.
Si Xia was brought out of his thoughts as he walked towards his office.
