Bab 105: The tragedy that broke the kids
Chen went outside with Xia and they began walking towards Hua's operation theatre. Chen asked, "What's wrong?"
Si Xia: "Hua's parents are here. They want to know what happened."
Upon hearing this Chen fell silent. Soon they reached where Mr. and Mrs. Xi were standing.
Mrs. Xi ran towards Chen as soon as she saw him and clung on to Xia's coat, which she was still wearing.
Mrs. Xi: "Chen, how did this all happen? How? My Hua."
Then she broke down. Yu Chen and Si Xia helped Mrs. Xi onto a bench. Then Yu Chen bent down in front of her, and told the whole story, tightly holding onto Mrs. Xi's hands.
After she had finished, Mrs. Xi seemed to have calmed down, she asked, "But what happened for my Hua to fall down?"
Yu Chen shook her head, "I do not know. All I know is that she left the hall looking very worried and we heard....." Chen could not complete the sentence.
But suddenly she was forcefully yanked up. Mr. Xi had pulled Chen up and asked in a thundering voice, "And where were you while my daughter was getting pushed off a window?"
Yu Chen: "I.....I...."
Mr. Xi: "I'll tell you. You were enjoying with some boy. Leaving my poor Hua alone in her time of distress. I wish it had been you who had been pushed, not Hua."
Mrs. Xi and Yu Chen were dumbstruck upon hearing this statement. But Si Xia stepped in between Chen and Mr. Xi. He said, looking Mr. Xi in the eyes, "Chen is a very good friend. You have no right to accuse her of anything. And the only thing stopping me from giving you a piece of my mind and my fist is the fact that you are a senior."
Then he pulled Chen away and said, "But if you say something like this again, I just might forget the fact. And if you love your daughter so much, no need to accuse her friends. They have also suffered."
Mr. Xi scoffed and Si Xia pulled Chen back towards the room where Kio and Zenghai were.
They had only gone a few steps when Mrs. Xi caught up with them. She said, "I would like to see the two boys."
Yu Chen and Si Xia nodded. Mrs. Xi continued, "I'm sorry about Mr. Xi."
Yu Chen shook her head, "Don't worry about it. I'm sure my father would have had the same reaction if it was me instead of Hua."
The three of them walked in silence and reached the room. Si Xia opened the room and they went inside. All the people inside were shocked to see Mrs. Xi. The parents all consoled her and told that they believed that Xi Hua would be perfectly fine.
Yu Chen and Si Xia went towards Mo Kio's bed. He was sitting up now and the IV had also been removed. He said, "Dad has gone to complete discharge formalities. But I'm not leaving until Hua comes out."
Mrs. Xi approached the kids and said, "What happened to you two boys?"
Before Kio could say anything, Xia explained how they all had shocked and two had to be hospitalized.
Mrs. Xi said, "I'm glad you guys care about Hua so much. Now, I should be getting back to my husband."
