Bab 83: Chapter 83: Skysea Alliance Tournament
Transition to a couple hours later and in the cafeteria. The entire class zero students were there with Tang Wulin and his friends now awake, meals in hand, and are all scowling at a grinning Xiu Ye.
As for the reason why? Well, their faces were scribbled with black-ink, doddle markings. Some of them, Tang Wulin and Xie Xie, had a poopy, whiskers, banana and doughnuts, and 'I'm Gay!' doddles on their faces while the girls had whiskers, darkened noses, beard and mustaches.
It's been a couple of hours since their spar and woke up to find that their faces were defiled like that, and they aren't happy; especially since they still couldn't clean them off their faces!
"..."
"..."
"Pfft-" A group of students passing-by snickered or hollered in laughter before they all shut up when the Xiu Ye's victims-friends shot them a deadly glare that promised a whole lot of pain if they didn't shut up. They all hurriedly walked away.
Xiu Ye snorted and finally decided to speak. "Now that was rude." That proved to be the wrong thing to say as his friends, and the new student, whipped their heads back towards Xiu Ye, so fast that it looked like would have snapped their neck, with furious expressions on their faces.
"Rude?! What's rude is that you drew crappy doddles onto our faces!" Mu Xi yelled as she pointed her finger at me.
"And, it isn't coming off!" Xie Xie cried out with gritted teeth.
"Seriously bro, not cool." Tang Wulin sighed.
"I'm gonna gut you like a fish." Gu Yue said with a blank, yet somehow terrifying, expression.
"...Why me?" Xu Xiaoyan muttered with tears starting form around her eyes.
Xiu Ye chuckled nervously and shrugged his shoulders. "It was just a great opportunity to do, so I figured, why the hell not? Also, it ain't permanent; it'll wear off an hour later." Everyone let long sigh of relief.
As Xiu Ye ate, he then started explaining to his friends of how they were knocked out, the training session against Wu Zhangkong they'll later get and that they were going to enter a Skysea Alliance Tournament.
Their reactions varied.
Tang Wulin and Xu Xiaoyan had dejected expressions on their face, both feeling useless in the entire fight, while Xie Xie, Mu Xi and Gu Yue were either pouting or sulking.
"So, since you have a higher spiritual power than ours and you can use it to launch a spiritual attack as well; you were able to completely attack our spirits and knock us unconscious."
Xiu Ye nodded. "Yup." The response he got were loud groans and facepalms.
"And we're entering a tournament?" Mu Xi asked with a raised eyebrow.
'And you're brushing the fact that you guys are getting a training session with Wu Zhangkong?' Xiu Ye blankly stared at them.
Xie Xie was the one to answer her question with a excited expression. "Which is amazing! There are eighteen first-class cities in our federation and they're divided into the five regions—the north, the east, the south, the west, and the center. Each region has a few major cities, but the center region only has two: Heaven Dou City and Shrek City. Even though that's less than the other regions, these two cities make up for it with their influence. Our eastern region actually has five first-class coastal cities that form the Skysea Alliance. Eastsea City is ranked second among the five."
"The Skysea Alliance Tournament is held every three years to scout excellent geniuses and check out the strength and development of all the cities. Naturally, those who show the most talent are practically guaranteed to shine brilliantly in the future. The most outstanding people may even be chosen to represent the Skysea Alliance in the federation-wide tournament that's held every five years! That's a grand tournament that involves the entire continent! And... You two haven't heard of this before?" Xie Xie pointedly stared at Xiu Ye and Tang Wulin with a deadpanned expression.
Both Xiu Ye and Tang Wulin shrugged their shoulders. Xiu Ye said, "I might have heard about it before in some of the cities I visited, to sell some stuff, but I didn't really care about it at the time to learn much about it." Which isn't really a lie, knowing some of the future events and all. He somewhat remembered that a certain pair from a certain academy was going to be present in in this year's tournament, if he recalled much in the story.
"Isn't the federal tournament usually held in Shrek City?" Xu Xiaoyan asked, staring at Tang Wulin in shock as he inhaled all of the gourmet food before him.
"That's right! It's held in Shrek City. Fortunately, Shrek Academy doesn't participate in that tournament, otherwise, the results wouldn't be suspenseful. It's been the number one academy on the continent for the past ten thousand years after all."
Xu Xiaoyan grew excited. "Doesn't that mean we have a chance, then?"
Her words made almost everyone around her laughed out loud. Xie Xie, wiping the tear in his eye, pointed his thumb towards Xiu Ye, "Well, duh! There are competitions for everyone—Mecha Masters, Battle Armor Masters, Soul Masters, blacksmiths, mecha craftsmen, mecha designers, mechanics, and so on. The events are divided according to age. There is a division for those aged fifteen and under, a division for youths aged fifteen to twenty, and a division for adults aged twenty to thirty. Anything beyond that is too old."
"With this guy with us it's already a guarantee that we'll be champions in the soul masters competition of youth division(under 15). And him, big sister Mu Xi and Wulin would take the top three places of the blacksmithing competition. We'll sweep the entire competition in a landslide! We'd probably even finish the entire tournament early than expected!"
Xiu Ye smiled and lightly commented, "Never be certain of everything Xie Xie."
Xie Xie raised an eyebrow. "Ye.... are you telling me that there's going to be a bigger monster than you, at your age, at the tournament?"
Xiu Ye shook his head. "Oh no, there's no way in hell that there's going to be someone as terrifying as me in the tournament. I'm just saying that you should always expect the unexpected. Most of everything in life isn't going to be simple after all." He then walked away, leaving his friends looking down on their meals with contemplative looks.
An entire month passed and Xiu Ye spent all of his time training his friends, had fun with them, talked to both Tiangou and Ryūjin Jakka; further comprehending the workings of his inner world and his elemental control on darkness and space, improving his physique and lifespan with the Life Force Seeds he had, and sparred against Wu Zhangkong. Just a normal routine for a ten year old boy.
"Tomorrow we're going to Skysea City," Wu Zhangkong announced to class zero.
Almost everyone in the room gulped in nervousness. This was it. It was time.
"Xiu Ye, Mu Xi and Tang Wulin. Stand up."
The three mentioned stood up, waiting for Wu Zhangkong to speak.
"The academy told me that the Blacksmith's Association wants you three to participate in the blacksmith's competition at the Skysea Alliance Tournament. Is that true?"
"Mn." The three nodded.
Wu Zhangkong said, "I did some research. It shouldn't conflict with any of our class's matches, so it should be fine."
"Ha!" The trio nodded. Xiu Ye asked, "Teacher Wu, what competition are we participating in?"
Wu Zhangkong said, "We'll enter the three-man team event in the juvenile division with two teams and a five-man team as well. The Skysea Alliance Tournament is very large and will have countless events. Obviously there will be events for soul masters, but they're divided into individual and team competitions. Team competitions are either groups of three, five, or seven. You should pay close attention to the seven-man matches, you could try to learn from them. Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue will form the first group, called the Golden Trio, while Xiu Ye, Xu Xiaoyan, and Mu Xi will form the second team, called the Blazing Shackles, in the three-man team competition. Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, Gu Yue, Mu Xi and Xu Xiaoyan will the form a group in the five-man team competition with Xiu Ye as a substitute. Your goal is to become champions!"
Champions! Hearing that word made everyone's blood boil in excitement. Although it was nerve inducing to enter a grand tournament like that, being viewed by thousands if not millions of people, the glory and adrenaline of fighting against other geniuses topped it off.
"Teacher Wu, can I participate in the individual competition?" Xiu Ye spoke up, acting both calm and collected, as if the matter of participating in such a tournament was boring.
It truly was. But the only reason why he wanted to go because students from Shrek Academy are going to be there, if he remembered it correctly, and so would a teacher. A teacher that can recruit him and probably get him inside of the academy much earlier than three years later when enrollment starts.
Xiu Ye subconsciously clenched his hands. Na'er, wait for me...
"Wait, me too!" Tang Wulin said, soon quickly followed by Xie Xie, Gu Yue and Mu Xi. Xu Xiaoyan however, couldn't join in as she lacked the confidence to enter an individual competition.
"Alright. If you don't drop dead on me from exhaustion, then sure. You can all join." Wu Zhangkong gave a apathetic shrug.
They all cheered. They couldn't wait for tomorrow to roll around!
Night crept by without a peep. Once the rays of the sun pierced through the horizon, Wu Zhangkong and the four students departed from the academy. Their destination: Eastsea Square located at the city's center.
Xiu Ye and the others wore Eastsea Academy's uniform. This time, Director Long Hengxu joined the children and Wu Zhangkong.
There was another team representing the academy apart from Xiu Ye's group, though they were from the advanced division.
The latter team would be participating in the fifteen to twenty youths division. Sparring a glance around them Xiu Ye spotted some familiar faces.
Crowds of people and luxurious soul busses assembled at Eastsea Square to set off together.
Although there was squabble here and there, with Xu Xiaoyan's brother fretting over her and Tang Wulin blushing as he talked to a older girl, Xiu Ye decided to just stay quiet in place but sometimes talked when any of his friends decided to talk to him.
The square was in chaos as the representatives of every association participating in the tournament organized themselves.
There were even representatives from other academies.
The Skysea Alliance Tournament had numerous events, including mecha and battle armor competitions.
Like how Eastsea City held an embarrassing position in the alliance, the Skysea Alliance were ashamed of their rank in comparison to the rest of the continent. Although their economic status was unrivaled, whether it were battle armor masters, mecha pilots, mecha technology, or the quantity and quality of soul masters, they ranked near the bottom in all of these elements.
The cities that dominated these categories were the Sun Moon City and Heaven Dou City. As for Shrek City, it could neither be evaluated by the Federation properly nor be put on the same scale as the others. Basically, Shrek City exceeded their comprehension.
"So, what are you going to do when you arrived at Skysea City?" Mu Xi tilted her head to Xiu Ye.
"Besides participating the tournament?" Xiu Ye raised an eyebrow in response, Mu Xi nodded.
"Hm. Probably go sightseeing. Hey, wanna come along with me?"
"Sure!"
"The teachers and students of Eastsea Academy, board your bus now." Hearing this, the teachers began leading the students onto the sixth bus.
Xiu Ye was just talking to Mu Xi when the announcement came. They and their friends quickly got in and the two sat together in a two-seated chair, with the former seated next to the window.
They continued on talking to each other when the bus started to move and go out of the academy, then the city.
Xiu Ye stared out of window.
Skysea City, here we come!
