Bab 67: Chapter 67. Across Sanus
Silva POV
After over 12 hours of the open sea, I finally reached my first stop Vytal Island where the peace treaty was signed after the Great War and where the Vytal festival gets its name. Home to one of the largest ports in Remnant that handles all cross-continent cargo ships from Atlas, Vale, Minstral, and Vacuo. I am in the northern part of the island while the port in the southern part of the island. I stored away my truck in my Blue Jade Ring and start to make my way through the forest of the island due to the fact it is too thick for me to drive through.
It only took me an hour to make it through the forest to the port town thanks to using Echo Tremor's shockwaves to propel me into the air and quickly across the ground. I have had this idea for a while but have not been able to practice it with all the projects I have been working on. The size of the port town of Vytal amazed me with it being around the same size as Argus in Mistral. As I decided to look around and see the sights and markets I overheard someone shout.
???: Stop that no good stowaway, anyone!!!
I looked towards the direction of the shout and saw some sailors chase after a familiar face, Sun Wukong. A blonde spiky-haired monkey tailed Faunus with slightly tanned skin wearing blue jean shorts with a white shirt unbuttoned revealing his abs. As a character, I liked him but now as a person however, I will not suffer an unknowing rival for Blake's and Velvet's affections. So I used a shockwave through my feet to move me at high-speeds in front of him and punched him on the chin to shift his head to make his brain shake.
I knocked him unconscious and handed him to the sailors. They thanked me while tying him up with ropes.
Sailor: Thanks for that when we found out this lousy animal, no offense intended towards you of course, not only sneaked on board but ate our cargo as well the captain was downright ready to skin him alive.
I shrugged then replied.
Silva: None was taken, and it was my pleasure because there is enough bad being said about the Faunus without him making it worse by being a stowaway.
The sailor nodded then said.
Sailor: Aye, that be true, and once more thanks for knocking him out.
I walked off towards the markets to see if anything is interesting to buy there as they carted Sun off to get his just desserts. The markets of Vytal have a little bit of everything from all 4 kingdoms and the Menagerie as well and this made me wonder if Blake took a ship from here to reach the Menagerie in volume 4. Well putting that aside after I looked through the markets I decided to find an inn for the night before heading towards Vale.
My priority is to find Emerald before Cinder because I felt someone as loyal as Emerald deserves better than Cinder who only cares about herself alone. I once entertained thoughts about finding Cinder before she killed the hotel owner and her daughters but decided against it because she is one of the main antagonists and she is ultimately predictable so as the expression goes, " the devil you know". Further thinking on the matter I also decided not to save Amber either because Cinder would not stop no matter what to get the Fall Maiden's powers.
Feeling a slight twinge of guilt leaving someone to die despite the fact I could do something about it but I choose to retain some knowledge of the future over a girl that I only know by name and appearance. I sigh thinking I am a coward for wanting to maintain the plot enough so that the final confrontation with Salem comes to play in a way I know with a level of certainty. I made my choices and I will live with them to maintain my goal of a harem and large family with all my favorite girls.
I had a wry smile on my face thinking about a certain boob-loving protagonist that wants to be a harem king and compared myself to him in goals at least because while I may be a pervert I do know there is a time and place for that unlike him. I chuckled thinking about the ridiculousness of a protagonist getting stronger by either touching breasts or thinking about them hard enough. I wonder if I wrote that light novel here in Remnant would it sell well?
Something to consider another time but first, time to get some sleep.
( The next day)
After getting some breakfast and information on the closest town from here to Vale I made my way to the mainland of Sanus. There is a ferry that goes to the mainland but I just summoned Skyfire to fly across the gap of water onto Sanus. When I landed I took out a map of this part of Sanus and made plans to the first town to try and find Emerald before Cinder. Bring out my truck from my Blue Jade Ring I started driving south-west along the coast.
( A few days later)
I finally reached my first stop, a good size town named North Brook a large coastal city to start finding that green-haired thief. The first place I am going to look for are the slums and an underground info broker to make my search easier. As I asked around quietly I spread out my sonar to search for Emerald as well just in case but with no luck so far. It did not take me long to find an info broker and once I entered I said to the cloaked person at the desk.
Silva: I am looking for some information.
The reply came in a female voice.
Broker: While I am sure I can help you our rates however might be out of your price range, sir.
I took out a few thousand Lein and asked.
Silva: Is this enough for you to stop patronizing me.
Broker: Certainly, what would you like to know?
I told her what I wanted to know.
Silva: A few things, first a green-haired, dark skin, with red irises girl that is a thief that I have business with. Second is Marcus Black an assassin.
The broker nodded and told me.
Broker: While Marcus Black is easy to contact the girl however will take some time to find. Is that acceptable, sir?
Silva: That is fine how long will I have to wait?
The info broker told me a few days and I handed her my number to contact me on my scroll when she has the information and told me where to get in contact with Marcus Black, Mercury's father. I decided to deal with Mercury early on because he is arguably one of the best fighters I have seen on the show. This is due to the fact he has no semblance because his father stole it with his semblance, making Mercury constantly train to improve his skills to make up for the lack of the semblance.
With that in mind, I head off to get in contact with Marcus Black the assassin.
( A few days later)
I am now in another town waiting in a bar for Marcus Black to show up. I finally saw him walk through the front door, he looks like his son Mercury but older with white short hair instead of gray while wearing a red shirt with brown pants and a black vest. He looked around and I gestured for him to come here, he walked over to me with a cocky smirk and swagger. The first thing that came out of his mouth was.
Marcus: Well I heard a stupid animal had a job for me but I didn't believe it, I guess I was wrong after all.
I ignored his racist comments because he is soon going to die anyway and gave him the fake job I have lined up for him.
Silva: I heard I was hiring one of the best assassins in Vale but overall I am not impressed...
Marcus frowned at me and I continued.
Silva: Putting that aside the job I have for you is sensitive and all the necessary info is on this data chip which will unlock in 24 hours from now, make sure you're in an isolated place when you look through it.
I handed him a data chip I made then took out a case of Lein to give to him.
Silva: Here is half of the payment now and you will get the rest after the job is done.
Marcus looked at the Lein and whistled then said.
Marcus: You must really want the guy dead if you're offering this much for his head.
I closed the case and asked.
Silva: Do we have a deal?
Marcus nodded and took the Lein and data chip, now I wait.
Marcus POV
Well, I have to say this job is starting to look quite lucrative despite dealing with an animal. That guy he, something about him sets off some warning bells in me like if I attacked him I would likely die. You don't become the best assassin in Vale without having good instincts to survive but anyway I think I will head home until the data chip unlocks.
Getting on board my bullhead I head home and I wonder if my brat is still training like he is supposed to. I should soon have enough cash to replace those pathetic weak legs of his with some high-grade prosthetics from Atlas and a less than legal surgeon to install them. I have to admit his semblance gave me hope to be able to use all the semblances I have stolen over the years with my semblance but unfortunately I can't use it either after taking it.
Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk I still beat him to an inch of his death for giving me false hope. I soon saw the clearing that my place was in the middle of, it was far away from any town or village which made it easy to train my semblance-less son however I want. After I landed I shouted out.
Marcus: MERCURY GET YOUR WORTHLESS HIDE HERE NOW!!!
I soon saw the gray-haired whelp in a gray shirt and black pants run over to me sweating like a pig, good he hasn't been slacking off. I handed him the case of Lein and he knew I wanted it in the vault so he ran off to fulfill my will, I trained him well knowing what I wanted without saying anything. I went to the kitchen to get myself some pre-celebratory hooch for a job well done because no matter the target I will succeed.
( A while later)
I woke up with my head pounding like a jackhammer and I grabbed the nearest bottle to make the pain go away. After finishing another bottle of whiskey and a light buzz filling me up I noticed Mercury unconscious with some new bruises. I walked over to make sure I did not kill him by accident, I checked his pulse and found he was still alive. I checked the time and soon the data chip should unlock for my information on my target.
I head for the kitchen and grabbed a left-over burrito to fill my stomach as I wait. The data chip unlocked and I put it in my scroll to see the information on my target. I rubbed my eyes not sure if I was seeing things because the target is me, yep it's me on the data chip. Feeling confusion I then heard someone say.
???: Surprise!
The next thing I know I find myself in a dark cell out of nowhere.
Silva POV
I put Marcus Black in my travel bag's cell area so that I may extract his soul because being able to steal semblances with a semblance interests me a great deal especially if his semblance retains the ones he stole. I decided to do this for purely theatrical flare instead of just doing this the easy way with using magic putting Marcus to sleep, then reading his mind to find Mercury. I head towards Mercury to finish what I started and I found him awake and moving around. He looked at me with wide eyes and asked.
Mercury: Who the heck are you!?
I did not bother answering him and charged at him with the intent to kill, he evaded and heads out a window. He then shouts at the top of his lungs.
Mercury: HEY OLD MAN WAKE UP WE GOT AN INTRUDER!
I already had Marcus waiting for me to extract his soul so his shouting means nothing. Once Outside I drew my weapon Roaring Crescent and slashed at Mercury. He leaped back then circled me to my flank and came at me with a jump kick. I grabbed his leg then tossed him to the ground and he quickly got back on his feet then dashed towards me. He came at me with a flurry of kicks and I transformed my weapon into its riot shield form blocking them and took out Devil Rose. I aimed my railgun at him at point-blank range sending him flying.
He stabilized his landing and shouted once more.
Mercury: OLD MAN GET OFF YOUR DRUNKEN ASS AND HELP!
I charged at Mercury swing Roaring Crescent at him and he backed flipped away then leaped aiming to knock me down with a low kick to my legs. I focused my aura at the point of contact and his kick was deflected making him lose balance. I then slashed at him a few times then kicked him away and I fired Devil Rose at him further knocking him back. I heard him mutter.
Mercury: Stupid old man there when I don't want him, gone when I need him.
Mercury charged at me and I slashed at him, he then kicked away my weapon and performed a high kick aiming for my head. Focusing my aura again deflecting his kick and I punched him making him stagger. I thrust my weapon at him knocking him down and I hit him while he is down. His gray aura flickered then broke under my assault he then asked me.
Mercury: Why are you doing this?
I ignored his question and behead him. Now that only leaves the father. I entered my travel bag's cell area to find Marcus Black snoozing in his cell for good measure I used magic to place him in a deep sleep just to be safe. I then started to extract his soul and turned it into a gray soul crystal with numerous flecks of other colors in it meaning that his semblance did retain the semblances he stole which makes this trip a fruitful harvest.
I conjured a blue flame and burn his now soulless husk and think to myself.
Well, that is one less problem now.
