"Isn't this place beautiful?" She asked as she gazed away from him, looking down at the valley beneath them.
"Hmm, indeed very beautiful." Emmett complimented as he watched her side profile with a gentle expression on his face.
The both of them continued to watch the scenery silently. While Jennifer looked at the vast sea of trees and stream of water flowing between the two segments of the various trees, Emmett continued to look at her.
There were very few things that impressed Emmett and this place from now on would be added to one of his favourite spots because it was the first place she had brought him to.
The wind continued to blow, caressing their faces.
It felt so peaceful that Jennifer wanted this moment to continue for a long time.
But it was just her wishful thinking. She had to meet Jason and discuss about the recent findings of Felix's case. Her life wasn't that of a princess.
She had to make her every move carefully with her life at risk every day, every minute. This was also one of the reasons why she was hesitating in getting into a relationship with Emmett.
[A/N: What are you worried about? You don't know yet who he is!! You soon will come to know about that too.]
But now she had already decided. She was going to give their relationship a chance.
What if, just what if it worked out well?
She was ready to take the risk. She will make sure that he is not harmed. She doesn't want to lose one more of her loved one.
"Should we go back now? The weather's changing and it might rain anytime soon." Emmett asked when he noticed that she was unusually silent for some time.
"Yes, let's go." She smiled at him and turned back to walk away from the cliff.
She wondered why he didn't talk about what had happened at her house some time back.
She wanted to talk about it but decided not to. She didn't want to destroy the peaceful moment between them by thinking about it.
She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she missed her step and ended up stumbling forward expecting a bad fall only to be pulled by a strong arm, hence she ending up colliding with a warm body instead of a cold, rough ground. Though in the process, she got her ankle twisted.
That was painful!!
"Ouch," A soft cry came out of her mouth as her nose hit his chest.
It felt like a deja vu.
The same thing had happened back in the hotel in Versailles only the situation was different.
She tried to distance herself, but the pain from her ankle made her lose her balance. Her face twisted with the pain coursing through her ankle.
This time the powerful hand grabbed her waist and lifted her up; effortlessly.
"Stay still," She heard him whisper and she obediently complied.
Emmett made her sit on a stone nearby.
"Did you twist your ankle?" He asked gently as he kneeled beside her.
She acknowledged with a nod.
"Which one, the left or the right?"
Jennifer pointed her left leg.
He gently grabbed her left leg and removed her heel.
The glaring reddish-purple mark on her white skin made him knit his brow in concern.
"This one looks pretty bad." He spoke as he studied her ankle.
"It must hurt a lot, right? Bear with it for a little while. Let's go to the hospital and get you treated."
His caring words nearly made her tear up.
This small pain was nothing to her as she had a lot more painful wounds before this. A bullet wound, a whip wound, a knife wound, the list was never-ending.
But she had never shed a tear because the pain was physical. It was bound to go someday or the other.
She would always bear with the pain and her accomplices were well aware of her pain tolerance so they had stopped asking her whether it hurt or not after a few injuries.
Jason would ask only if the wound was severe.
For a small injury like this, no one would ask her if it hurt.
Because they always thought of her as a strong woman who could tolerate anything.
Except for her family, no one ever asked if it hurt or not. And for these superficial wounds, there was no need to go to a doctor. She would always treat these injuries on her own, without anyone's help.
She knew she was getting very emotional with a small injury. But what could she do when the man in front of her had such a concerned and pained look on his face as if he was the one who got his ankle twisted.
[A/N: You call this small injury?!! Then what will you call a bump or a cut? XXXXXtra-small injury? WTH man!!]
Oh, God! What had she done in her previous life to have got such a caring and loving man!!
[Author: Girl, he still isn't your man! You haven't confessed to him yet and he hasn't agreed to make you his real girlfriend and not a fake one.
Jennifer:...(F**k off)
Author: As usual I am getting ignored. Poor me.]
"I am going to move your ankle a bit. Bear with it for few seconds, okay?"
She nodded but cried out the next second when he roughly moved her ankle.
What the hell! It was painful.
"If it would have been left untreated, it might turn into acute ankle sprain."
She nodded in understanding, "Thanks."
Jennifer was startled when he moved his hand behind her head.
"What are you doing?" She asked with wide eyes.
"Picking you up. You won't be able to walk in this condition."
She wanted to deny but she herself knew it wasn't possible to walk with an ankle sprain and hers looked quite severe.
"Okay."
"Hold tight," Emmett said as he picked up Jennifer in a princess carry and walked down the stairs.
All the while, Jennifer was busy staring at his handsome side profile, his chiselled jaws and pointed nose and lastly his red inviting lips.
She had totally forgotten about her injury and was busy admiring the beauty in front of her.
In no time they reached his car. Jennifer opened the car door for him, as he slowly placed her on the back seat of the car so that she would have enough place to sit and she could as well spread her legs to avoid getting her ankle in contact with other things.
"Just hold on for some time. I will take you to the nearest hospital soon."
"It is alright. Just drop me at home, I will take care of it."
"No way. This is a serious issue, you might get acute ankle pain or worse arthritis. We will just go to the hospital and get you treated."
Jennifer sighed, she knew even if she argued she would never win so she conceded and kept mum.
Emmett got inside the back seat, surprising Jennifer.
Weren't they going to the hospital?
Puzzled, she looked on as he opened the small compartment in one corner of the car and took out some ointments.
Now she understood. He was going to apply ointment on her injury.
The cooling sensation gave her relief to some extent but it was still painful and she knew why.
It was said that everything should be treated on time if not then one will have to face the consequences.
She had done a mistake a few months back and this was the consequence.
Sigh, Jason was going to give her an earful as she had ignored his words back then.
