As Jake and his comrades made their departure from the Oracle Palace, on a course set for Cekt's laboratory, Kang Jun reunited with Cho-Min-Ho, Lee Yoon, and the third bodyguard who were patiently waiting in one of the gardens, cupping a warm teacup, basking under the artificial sun of Thelma.
The third bodyguard was the sole non-human alien among them. An alien more insect than human by the name of Natan. Only God knew if it was his birth name or a moniker Cho Min Ho later assigned to simplify their communications. His native tongue was but a series of clicks and mandible scrapes—utterly incomprehensible.
On spotting Kang Jun strolling towards them, hands nonchalantly in pockets, Cho Min Ho and Natan shot him a disapproving glance. Lee Yoon, meanwhile, made no attempt to hide her revulsion and contempt.
"Was it truly necessary to display such arrogance in proposing our alliance?" Lee Yoon spat spitefully.
I've seen some people have trouble understanding why Jake is willing to accept an alliance with a potential enemy.
For those who don't follow discord, in the Ordeal context Jake has everything to gain. Collaborating with another human, increases the likelihood that there are mostly human players on the enemy side.
This is extremely important. Even though the Ordeal is supposed to be fair and the two sides balanced, this is only in relation to the Oracle Rank, and to a lesser extent the participating species.
A non-human alien from the other Mirror Universe could, for example, also be an Oracle Knight, with the same rank as Jake, but his appearance could be that of a huge brain levitating in the air. Assuming their overall strength is the same (which is fortunately not guaranteed), Jake would easily have the upper hand physically, but would be crushed intellectually. In an Ordeal based on a direct confrontation this wouldn't be a problem, but when it comes to controlling and ordering millions of players, the impact would be felt immediately.
The other reason is that friend or foe, they are on the same side. Since Cho Min Ho is an Oracle Knight it means that he knows his priorities and has the victory of his Mirror Universe at heart, even if he has his own ambitions.
Another point, they know each other. It's more complicated to cooperate with complete strangers, even if they are from the same Mirror Universe. Knowing Amy is enough to break the ice and take that risk.
Finally, Jake knows/believes he is stronger. If a stronger ally makes mistakes, it's much harder to fix them. Conversely, Jake will have a much easier time cleaning up the mess if Cho Min Ho turns out to be much weaker than him.
