Bab 11: Finding out the culprit
"What?? Are you accusing of being a drug dealer! Do you know my influence? It has been many years since I have been in this town. Do you think you can accuse me without any proper evidence?" Abeer scolded frantically.
"If I did not have evidence I would not pointing fingers at you Mr.Abeer. Your friend has already given you away." Seeing that abeer's eyes shifting frantically shastri smiled and said "Yeah, you're partner in the crime…if you still can't remember his name I will provide you another hint-The supplier of the drugs-Jaleel"
Abeer's eyes drooped instantly, "So he told you the truth and made me a scapegoat?"
"Believe what you want to. But there is some time for him to come. If you provide enough details we may still be able to plead for concession because of your help in the case. But you have to make decision as soon as possible. If he also makes the confession then it will be his credit which may help to reduce his sentence."
Abeer eyes dropped frantically. He knew the game was up. Thus, he began to talk "It was all the bastards plan. At first he came to me as he knew I had the most connections. I was the middlemen between him and Jones. The drugs were supplied to me. Then I provided it to jones. As he was in the church we thought he would be noticed that much."
"But he was a bumbling moron. Every time I had to take care of him if he was caught by police. I knew that he would set me up one day. That's why I took a duplicate sim and contacted him with that."
"One day he came to me to say that he would be leaving the drugs business. I had no problem with that. I could have come up with other suppliers who were more loyal than him. So I contacted my supplier and said that he was leaving. See I did not even want to kill him."
"Assisting the murderer is also a form of murder. Now, continue with the story."
"Well, my supplier said that in our business we should not keep any loose ends. He said that if someday the police may go to him and he may spill the beans regarding us. Hearing him, I also began to lose my mind. So for our future safety we had to kill Jones."
"After that we discussed the plans on how to kill jones. After the party I called him and said to come home. I told him I wanted to give him a gift for the loyalty he had shown me in this years. He was also very excited. So I told him to come home. He came to home around 12'o clock. He was very excited about the wedding. He was talking continusly about the wedding plans"
At that time there came loud dragging noise. Lisa had stood angrily as she was trying to drag the chair towards abeer to hit him with it. When the surrounding cops tried to calm her down she looked at abeer and cried "You Murderer!" .She was then taken outside. But her crying voice could still be heard.
"So, what did you do next?" Shastri continued.
"Next I talked to him to stall for time. As the time drew nearer I asked him if he had ever eaten candy drug himself. He said no. Then I told him to try it. I encouraged him that he had do many crazy things before marriage, as he may not get an opportunity later. After that he took the candy. I had to make sure to give him limited amount so that he would not be knocked out. After he was drugged him I took his motorcycle strapped him to my back in motorcycle so that he would not fall off, and then drove to the Ghats."
"So Jaleel was sharing you the locations – So that you may be prepared?"
"Yes Sir." Abeer said. Suddenly one of the cops asked "Sir, Who is Jaleel?"
"Oh, he is one of the main witness of the case" said shastri throwing a file from the witness list. When the cop caught the file and read it he was surprised.
"You mean the driver of the bus –Jaleel? But he is the main witness of the case!" the cop was flabbergasted.
"Is there any rule written that the prime witness can't be the prime suspect? If so, please enlighten me. If not, we will continue with the revelations of Mr. Abeer" shastri motioned Mr.Abeer to continue.
"Well I went near the entrance of the Ghats. Once Jaleel gave me a missed call, it was a message for me to get ready. After that I stopped the motorcycle on the middle of the road. I left on the motor cycle and placed him in it. After that you know the rest." Abeer hung his head.
"Yeah. After the accident, you mingled with the passengers, as If you had nothing to do with it. As it was morning time no one would take not of extra passenger. And what was the name you provided, in the witness list 'Bujangappa' right?"
"Yes sir." said abeer with his face downcast.
At that time there was a commotion in the front of the police station. "I admit that I was a drug supplier but I am not a murderer. You can't arrest me without proofs" someone was yelling at top of their voice. Shastri smiled "Another character has arrived"
As Jaleel came inside he looked around furiously. As he looked at abeer, he stood there dumbfounded.
"Now Mr.Jaleel, do you think that we the police would arrest you without any proof?" shastri asked.
Jaleel stood there without saying anything. Then he screamed "You screwed me you Bastard!" and began rushing towards Abeer.
Shastri motioned viraj. Viraj rushed to Jaleel and slapped him. That made Jaleel come back to his senses.
Then he sat down looking defeated.
Abeer was very confused. Then he became to feel a sense of foreboding. "You lied to us?" he asked shastri.
"Yes"
"Why? What had we done to you?"
Suddenly there was silence around him. Shastri was still smiling. But Abeer felt that it was calm before the storm.
"Do you think that this is some type of personal vendetta? No this me doing my duties. When you were selling drugs did you think of their families? Did you think the feelings of the bride when the groom is murdered? The person who had promised to be with her throughout her life as a good person? No."
"Do you think this is some type of game that I should play fair and square? No, I am doing an investigation and I wil find the truth by fair or by square! "Yelled shastri. Viraj brought him a glass of water.
After drinking the water, shastri resumed the investigation.
