Bab 4: Thank You Big Brother

The big mansion soon left behind him, leaving the brightly lit house beyond his reach. As he trudged his way down the street, people celebrated the festive night, holding hands together like paper-mache figurines, tightly locked and inter-bonded, leaving no space left for him to cuddle in.

The merry celebratory air was a starching contrast to his gloomy auric personation. Girls and boys ran along the sides in large strides, men and women guarded by arms, shared the delight of the day. No one cared about the little boy who walked on the sides.

This was a difference of lives, the distinction of care, they had no relationships, so there were no familial ties, nor emotional strings. Chen Hai was no left alone to fend for himself, no reliabilities, no trustable aids, and no backing of support that will ever come for him.

The little bag of spirit stones was all that he had left to defend his small life, and most of it would have to be used to get out of this city, and to provide the food he would need to stay alive. If he stayed here, his father's clan will definitely not make things pretty. Although he knew that his father was serious about cutting off all ties, in truth he left a small road of hope for him to live his own life.

If he was found out, he would most likely be reduced to a status similar to a slave, or even worse, become dead for any random reason that may be found. Perhaps this was the last help his father decided to give him, before he ruthlessly abandoned his own son. A subconscious help to assist his relieve in guilt.

Gradually the buildings became more distant, smaller in size, slowly becoming more dilapidated as he made his way towards the edge of the city. He himself didn't know where he was headed, but all he knew was he grew closer to his destination.

The festive spirits slowly died down, turning more cold and calm. In the outskirts of the city, Chen Hai made his towards the outer perimeter. He was only a child so he did not know much about the world, other than the things that had surrounded him.

He did not know where he was supposed to go to get transport, so all he can do was make his way towards the outer zone of the city. He wandered endlessly through the dark, big strong men walking past him without care.

Eventually throughout his seemingly endless walk, he stumbled upon a dead end. He somehow ended up at a dark alley within the outskirts of the city. Right when he was going to turn around and leave, he noticed someone else within the black passage.

He was a tiny boy, just like him. He had a a dirt ridden face, clothes wrinkled and bruised, and a worn down body given by his lack of nutrients. He was a desolate poor kid, in even worse circumstances than his. He didn't know his history, but at least Chen Hai lived a life that countless others would dream of for the six years he had lived.

He was given the best of foods, the best of educators, and the best wealth and care he can ask for. The only complaint he can give about was the fact that there was barely any time he had spent with his parents. But that was still a minor negative complaint compared to the life that this child had to go live so far.

The kid was laying his back on the wall, staring into the vast sky. He looked younger than he was, maybe five or four, yet he was already so mature. Feeling tired from his day, he decided to take a rest next to that boy, to also stare at the starry sky.

He was still only six, his small legs could not sustain that long walk, and he needed to take a rest. His eyes staring together with the boy at the glimmering sky, starlight shone upon the two as they wondered about different thoughts. Two children of different worlds, coexisting in this one miniature moment.

"Big brother, do you have any food I can eat?...", and it was precisely the difference of ideals which led to different actions. Normally one would think the beggar will ask for money, or the support from a person who is doing well off. One can easily tell the Chen Hai came from a good family, even if he was kicked out, people can tell just from his clothes if they looked closely. However, the first thing the boy asked him was not for work, nor money, but for food.

Chen Hai had nothing on him other than the spirit stones his dad threw to him, and he was not that selfless to give him the thing that he needs. But his guilt made him look for something to give the younger boy.

Seeing that he had nothing on him, the little boy turned his gaze back into the sky. This was the only comfort and enjoyment he had left in his life. "Its ok... I'm used to it, I can still live without it..."

Chen Hai felt confused at the emotions he started experiencing. He was once feeling depressed and hate at how he was banished, but there were still people left off worser than him... He had no right to be indignant, and he was also still selfish enough at a moment like this to not even give him some of the currency to the boy, just enough to spend on a small piece of food...

Having a idea to both feed the boy, and as a action to forgive himself, even if it was just him running away from his subconsciousness. His Martial Soul might be one of the most useless existences, but it was still a White Powder, and it might be edible...

Summoning his power, he produced a handful of white powder onto his palm. "I might not have anything good or tasty, but I still have my Martial Soul... To be honest- I don't even know if it is food, but it looks edible... and you can have some to fill you up."

Pushing his hand forward towards the boy, he was waiting to see if he will try it or not. Smiling the young boy took the powder from his hand, his innocence not doubting if Chen Hai was lying to him or not. With a straight gulp, he swallowed it all. "Thank you big brother... It was actually very tasty and filled me up! I think your Martial Soul is a food heh-heh. At least you will never need to worry about eating right?"

Seeing how the youth was now filled with energy, and a face thanking him with true emotions under the star lit sky, Chen Hai basking beneath the moon light also felt a little happy. He even felt a energy sapping into him, filling him with refresh and stamina, a cool feeling which flowed trough his veins. He felt like he had the energy needed to travel once again, so he stood up and prepared to leave.

"You're only still four or five, you have a good future unlike me, I hope you don't give up now as you are still filled with possibilities. Prove everyone wrong, and stand for the people like me...", saying his leave, Chen Hai left the little boy enjoying the after taste.

After he left, Chen Hai produced a handful of powder for himself. Since his Martial Soul was food, he also wished to see what it will taste like. It seemed pretty tasty to that young boy who tried it.

Throwing the powder inside his mouth, it dissolved into his saliva, but there was no taste or feeling that it satisfied his hunger.

'Was the boy lying to me?', washing off the thought, Chen Hai continued walking under the dimly lit road to find a way out of the city.
