Bab 9: A Reason To Live
I arrive back to my tent by nightfall, and I already feel my body is aching from the encounter I had with the goblins today, and as I double check the rope perimeter to see if it's been tempered with, I think to myself.
"Everything seems fine."
I then get a campfire going, and start carefully skinning the animal that I had stored inside the enchanted box that my dad gave me, and as my food is being cooked by the flames, I sit down on one of the roots of a huge tree that's sticking out from the ground, I move around trying to get comfortable, I then sigh as I look up at the night sky, and I ask myself.
"why in the hell am I doing this anymore?"
I the think back to that night that I spent with Rosie before leaving Arce, where Rosie asked me.
"would you like to spend the night with me?"
I feel my jaw drop, and I stammer.
"uh uh ex-excuse me, I dont th-think I heard you right, but did you just say if I want to spend the night?"
she is clearly a bit flustered with my response, she doesn't say a word and nods, I then think to myself.
"say yes! say yes! you wont get another opportunity like this you idiot!"
I can feel a grin forming ear to ear on my face.
she playfully shoves me and nervously giggles, she then sings in a teasing manner like a kid would do.
"I can already tell what your thinking about with that creepy perverted smile."
I blurt out laughing and respond in kind.
"You shouldn't be talking, you also have that exact same perverted smile that I have."
and with that whatever awkward atmosphere that was in the air disappeared, and we then embrace each other and start making love. After finishing up, me and Rosie stay up as we couldn't go to sleep, it was somewhere around midnight and all I can think about was that is how I'm no longer a virgin, and how I have experienced the long awaited Valhalla that us virgins have always dreamt of, we just lay quietly on the bed still awake and I can still feel her warm body next to me, I slowly turn over to my side so that I'm facing her, she also does the same and then I gently caress her arm and break the peaceful silence by saying.
"I really do want to come with you, especially after finding out how you feel about me tonight."
Rosie then asks curiously.
"so what's stopping you?"
I can't tell her that I'm looking for a way to become stronger, because in this moment and knowing how she feels about me, I feel like I would abandon that goal I've set myself since I got rejected from the magical academy and just live a life with Rosie, but then a lingering thought about me being weak with magic still runs in my head, because the peace in this world peace is not steady and a war could break out at anytime, between the humans and Dragonoids and now that I've confirmed my feelings for Rosie, I can't help but imagine scenarios of me helplessly watching Rosie die right in front of me, because I was to weak to do anything to stop it, and that thought would play in my mind on repeat, I then reply to her.
"I want to explore this world and experience unknown things without any regrets."
what I said is not a complete lie, but I can't tell her that I'm looking for any means necessary to become stronger, she caresses my cheek and says.
"I understand, and even though I want to stop you from going, I won't."
she kisses me and then whispers softly.
"I'll wait for you to come back to me and when you do I'll have you tell me stories of your adventure."
I then break the serious mood that I created.
"so tell me, when was the exact moment you realized that you had feelings for me?"
Rosie answers.
"well it kinda happened after you beat me in that one on one duel we had when we were kids."
I respond surprised.
"really that's surprising."
I then ask curiously
"so there were no guys at the academy that you were interested in?"
obviously teasing me, she answers.
"yeah, there were a few cute guys that asked my hand in marriage."
I try to play it off like if I'm not bothered by it.
"yeah well it looks like you chose the most handsome one of the bunch."
referring to myself, she looks around the room and the replies still teasing me.
"who is this handsome guy? because I don't seem to see him anywhere."
she then gives me a kiss a says smiling.
"I'm just kidding you don't have to get so worked up."
I sulk.
"I'm not worked up, what are you talking about?"
she kisses me again.
"don't worry Collin, you're the only one that I've had my eyes on and I couldn't wait to tell you about my feelings."
After that I have found a good reason to live and why I will do any means necessary to stay alive, and also made an incredible memory with Rosie that night and it's something that I will hold close to my heart, as I reminisce about it, I get interrupted by the smell of something burning, I then quickly reach out over to the burnt animal and I take a bite after letting it cool off a bit, I then fight the urge to spit it out, and think to myself.
"tastes like burnt chicken."
I finish up my burnt food, I then put out the campfire and start heading towards the tent, but as I'm about to enter, I hear the rattling sounds of cans from the perimeter, I quickly grab the short sword and dagger that are inside my tent, and I take a deep breath as I slowly head towards the direction where the sound came from.
