A mage walked up to me while I was pondering. He looked quite old, with white hair and a beard that almost touched the floor. He was wearing red robes and bend over using a cane (made of wood).
"I haven't seen you around young one. Have you come here to sign up? My name is Eric, the manager of this branch of the mage guild." The old man smiled warmly but his eyes were very cautious.
Curious why he was so cautious against me even though he assumed I was young and the way he talked and walked showed his absolute confidence in himself, I read his mind. I blinked, slightly surprised. It appeared that half a hour earlier, this mage's heart had started pounding while he was doing his taxes. This caused the mage to panic and cast dozens of spells on himself ranging from healing to shocking himself. However, they had no affect at all and he started losing consciousness.
He fainted on the floor and woke up 15 minutes later to find his pants soaking and sheets of sweat everywhere. This made him recall a memory that had happened over 70 years ago but was still vivid.
This was the feeling of spiritual pressure from a source that had reached a unfantomal level!
The only time he had felt this was when his master made punished him when he was still a young mage trainee.
He looked around, only to find that no one was there. 'Is this a omen?' He pondered. Deciding that this was a important matter, he used water magic spells to clean himself and extract certain...fluids...out of his lavish robes and then drying himself with a fire spell.
When he had saw Yamake come in, he was doubtful that this young child who looked 14 was truly the reason for that omen.
I was deeply puzzled. 'Did I release pressure? How come no one else had felt the spiritual pressure? Why is he okay now?'
"Well?" Eric asked getting impatient.
"Yes" I responded.
"Great, what level are you?"
"Uh... I don't know."
"Do you not know about the menu?"
Of course I knew about the menu after reading so many mortals minds, but I didn't have one like others did because I wasn't born on this planet. Furthermore, the menu wasn't directly related to elements in any way, so I couldn't create on. The menu is basically a tool everyone who was born here had in their brains, regardless of species. This menu shows levels, stats, skills and allows you to place points in stats. One gets points by leveling up. Leveling up can be done by killing (preferably beasts but anything worked), drinking potions, cultivating (using the surrounding energy and transforming it into EXP, or being blessed by a god with EXP.
The mages usually cultivated due to them being able to increase power by understanding the energy of the world. With more understanding, it would be easier and faster to cast magic. Though not every mage used this method, it was rare to find those that didn't besides in churches.
Not knowing how to answer I simply stared at him. He mistook this as me being clueless.
*Sigh* Normally Eric would ignore this person or maybe experiment on him because this happening has so rare, this was the first time he had ever heard of this happening. However, he felt like this person couldn't be treated badly or else he would be dead before he knew it.
"Please wait a second sir." He said going into the back and into the storeroom.
"Who is he master? Is he a great figure?" One of the staff working there whispered to Eric in the storage room.
"Hush! We'll see soon enough. Get me the level scanner."
"Master, should we call headquarters? If he truly is a great person then the nobles will-"
"You think I don't know that? Just go and get it!" Eric snapped.
Scared and confused, the mage ran to get it.
"Sir, do I have permission to scan you?" Eric asked me with a modest tone.
"Sure."
*Beep* the scanner light shone on me.
After 10 seconds Eric checked it. His eyes widened until they matched golf balls. He plopped down on the floor. The mage from before went to help Eric stand.
"Master, are you okay?"
"Sir, what is your name?" Eric asked ignoring his disciple.
I showed him my ID.
He looked at the ID, then at the scanner that showed the word "immeasurable" and then back again.
'How could there be a 14 year old mage with a level over 1,000?! What a monster!'
Eric had always been arrogant because of his high talent but he discovered 2 things from this encounter. First, he really was a orcan, because even if he was a master it was impossible to completely change your blood into that of a different race, and there were secret monitors not just in the mage guild, but everywhere in Kinds that checked each and every person. Secondly, this man was really not registered with the empire, since if he was, then the power hungry emperor would be using him to raise the race in the species ranking!
That was how powerful a level 1,000 was, they could single-handily change everyone's view of a species! There was less than 50 of them in the whole 7 levels available to them!
Sorry it’s sort today, it was a little hectic.
