"Spirit rings can be obtained by killing spirit beasts, after you absorb them, you can gain some of that spirit beasts abilities."
Wu Yu thought about it then asked, "grandmaster, isn't it possible for our spirits to get stronger without the need for spirit rings?"
Grandmaster looked at Wu Yu, then shook his head, "it isn't possible, it's one of our world laws, without spirit rings humans can't ever get stronger."
"So then, let's hypothesize a foreign power was born into our world, would it be tied to our world laws?" Wu Yu was thinking about his zanpakuto as he asked this question.
Giving Wu Yu a strange look, grandmaster thought about his question, "I wouldn't know, never has such thing happened before, though if I had to guess, I'd say the foreign power would just end up adapting to our world laws and abide by them."
Unable to grasp how grandmaster came to such a conclusion, Wu Yu furrowed his brows then asked, "why would you say that?"
"Hmm, because you asked if it was born in our world, not thrown, appeared or showed up but born." Grandmaster thought about it some more then continued.
"When you say born, I think the world had created this power itself so there's no reason the world would create a power that contradicts its own laws."
"If you had said it had appeared or cast into this world then I don't think the world laws could affect the foreign power." Of course grandmaster's theory was flawed but it somewhat made sense to Wu Yu.
"Why do you ask?" grandmaster couldn't understand why Wu Yu was so fixated on this topic when they were trying to understand his spirit.
Wu Yu just scratched his head and answered, "haha, no reason grandmaster, I'm just curious and wanted your take on it."
Grandmaster didn't fully believe Wu Yu but continued his earlier lesson, "As I was saying before, you can gain abilities from spirit beasts by absorbing their rings."
Wu Yu nodded as grandmaster continued, "rings can be separated into five colors, you can find out the age of the spirit beast by the color of their rings."
Another question popped up in Wu Yu's head so he asked, "grandmaster, is there another way to determine the age of the spirit beasts?"
Grandmaster nodded and answered, "another way we can determine the age of a spirit beast is by looking at the color of their attacks, the color of the attacks correspond to the color of their rings."
"I see... so what colors are spirit rings?" Wu Yu asked. Grandmaster continued, "rings are separated into five colors, white, yellow, purple, black, and red."
"White is equivalent to a 10 year spirit beast, yellow is 100 year, purple is 1,000, black is 10,000, lastly, red is is a 100,000 year spirit beast."
"Remember, the older a spirit beast is, the more powerful they are." When grandmaster finished his little lesson, Wu Yu looked over at Wu Ji.
"Grandmaster, earlier you said Wu Ji was comparable to a 100,000 year spirit beast?" Grandmaster once again looked over at Wu Ji.
"No, the pressure and aura it gives off is comparable to one, I don't know about it's actual power." grandmaster said as he gave Wu Ji a complected look.
Wu Yu came to a realization, then asked grandmaster, "then grandmaster, does that mean Wu Ji will give off this feeling to anyone?"
Thinking about it, Wu Yu realized how great this actually was, even if it's just a bluff, Wu Ji could create the illusion of being a 100,000 year spirit beast.
This means he could trick his enemies to save his life if needed and could become a life saving bluff card when the time calls for it.
Grandmaster could somewhat understand what Wu Yu was thinking and answered, "I'm not sure if it can affect anyone, there may be limitations to it, we'll have to test it."
Wu Yu nodded then asked, "Grandmaster what rank are you and the headmaster now?" at least Wu Yu can tell the threshold of Wu Ji's bluff by comparing it to the headmaster and grandmasters current ranks.
Grandmasters face got a little gloomy after hearing Wu Yu's question but still answered, "The headmaster should be about a rank 48 spirit ancestor as for myself..."
Wu Yu could tell something was wrong when he approached the topic of grandmaster's cultivation and assumed grandmaster was either embarrassed by it or he didn't want to reveal it.
Before Wu Yu could say anything, grandmaster summoned his spirit, "Luo Pao!" a small yellow dog appeared in grandmasters arms.
Wu Yu was surprised, "grandmaster, you..." grandmaster already knew what Wu Yu was about to ask and cut him off.
"My spirit, Luo Pao, is a variant of the powerful lighting tyrant dragon of my clan, a mutated spirit like yours, unfortunately, it wasn't a very good mutation..."
Wu Yu eyes were wide open, he looked at Luo Pao then back at Wu Ji. Even though he said that he wouldn't hate Wu Ji even if it was weak, no one would want their spirit beast to be weak, it was fact.
Grandmaster saw the worried look in Wu Yu's eyes and pat him on his head, "Don't worry, as far as I can see, your spirit as of now only has perks no downfall."
Wu Yu sighed a breath of relief when he heard grandmaster reassuring him. Grandmaster watched as Wu Yu had calmed down then continued his words.
"As I said my spirit mutation wasn't a good one so there's a high chance I'll never break past a spirit level of 30."
A long silence started between the two of them before grandmaster ended it, "well, enough about me, let's see what your spirit Qilin can do."
Nodding his head Wu Yu willed Wu Ji to get closer to him and grandmaster. When Wu Ji was close by grandmaster asked Wu Yu first before he touched Wu Ji, "little Yu, can I touch him?"
Wu Yu faced Wu Ji and said, "Grandmaster's gonna touch you, don't resist." Wu Yu looked back at grandmaster and gave him the okay.
Running his hand through Wu Ji's mane, grandmaster was shocked by how thick and heavy it was even though it flowed so freely with the wind.
"Amazing, the mane on your Qilin is so strange, it doesn't obey the laws of physics at all!" grandmaster exclaimed as his hand wandered on to Wu Ji's scaly body.
Running his hand all over Wu Ji's body, grandmaster noticed a few thing. First off the scales all over Wu Ji's body was extremely hard and durable all except one spot.
One spot on Wu Ji's back was different from the rest of the body, it was flexible, extremely soft and comfortable.
There was something else, grandmaster kept taking his hand on and off of Wu Ji's back which caused Wu Yu to look at him wierdly.
Grandmaster had a sudden epifany and asked Wu Yu, "little Yu have you ridden your spirit before?" Wu Yu remembered riding Wu Ji to the city and nodded.
"How was it?" grandmaster asked. Wu Yu was confused, "How was it? I guess it was fine, it's pretty comfortable riding on Wu Ji's back."
Grandmaster nodded and questioned, "is that it? anything else? how about what you didn't feel, for example wind?"
Wu Yu though about it a little more then recounted, "Well, I guess Wu Ji's pretty fast, oh yeah! I didn't feel any wind while riding!"
Hearing what Wu Yu said confirmed grandmaster's theory as he nodded, "little Yu, if I'm not wrong, I believe your spirit is meant to be mounted."
"Mounted?" Wu Yu questioned. He didn't expect this to be grandmasters conclusion, sure he rid Wu Ji once but that was just for conveniance sake.
"Yes, mounted, your spirit is a mount, to be exact, a battle mount!" grandmaster exclaimed as he was clearly excited about this.
"Grandmaster? why are you so excited about this?" Wu Yu asked. He didn't mind Wu Ji being a mount but was it any reason to be so excited?
Grandmaster shook his head and explained, "I'm excited because this is a type of spirit never seen before in history."
"This means we're the first to discover it and there's more to learn about your spirit!" grandmaster exclaimed as he put his hand on Wu Ji's back again.
"little Yu, can you ride Wu Ji around for a bit, I'd like to see how it affects you and Wu Ji." asked grandmaster as he continued studying Wu Ji.
"Of course grandmaster, Wu Ji!" when he said that, Wu Ji immediately lowered itself down for Wu Yu to jump onto.
When Wu Yu arrived on Wu Ji's back, he immediately felt the lack of wind. Now, after grandmasters theory, Wu Yu was more conscious of the lack of wind.
He thought to himself, 'strange, I wonder how I'm still breathing?' Looking at grandmaster and asked, "grandmaster, if there is no wind how am I breathing?"
Chuckling, grandmaster answered, "silly, people don't breathe in wind, we breath air. Wind is just the movement of air, even if there's no wind, there's still air."
After hearing grandmaster's explaination, Wu Yu felt a little embarrassed as he didn't know that but hey, people can't know everything, right?
"Alright grandmaster, Wu Ji will start running now, you might want to back away." grandmaster was a little confused by Wu Ji's warning but still heeded it and backed away.
Seeing that grandmaster was a safe distance away, Wu Yu willed Wu Ji to sprint as fast as it can around the field.
Pushing off the dirt on the ground, Wu Ji shot forward and was sprinting around the field in circles while grandmaster watched from the side with sweat dropping from his forehead.
He thought to himself, 'my god, that leg power, I recon it could easily blow off the head of a spirit elder, and that speed, all I can see is a blur.'
Grandmaster was in pure shock, how could there be such a powerful spirit? how scary would it be once Wu Yu truly starts cultivating and gives it spirit rings?
'A monster, a complete monster!' grandmaster thought to himself and gulped down a mouthful of saliva as he looked at Luo Pao, while thinking about something.
Wu Yu who was on Wu Ji was getting a little dizzy with Wu Ji running around in circles at such a high speed.
He quickly pat Wu Ji's side and told him to stop so he could take a breather. Grandmaster had noticed Wu Ji stopping and ran up to Wu Yu.
"Little Yu? what's wrong? did something happen?" Grandmaster asked with concern as he helped Wu Yu off of Wu Ji.
"Haha, it's nothing grandmaster, I just got a little dizzy, I can't keep up with Wu Ji's speed, plus he was running round and round." Wu Yu reassured grandmaster he was fine as he got off of Wu Ji.
"I see... wait, how come you didn't mentioned it makes you dizzy before?" grandmaster asked while furrowing his brows.
Wu Yu was holding his head as he unsteadily sat down, " huh? oh, I didn't get dizzy last time... strange wonder why I'm getting dizzy now."
Grandmaster thought about it then asked, "was Wu Ji running this fast the last time you rode him or were you moving slower than now?"
"Nah, Wu Ji was running really fast when we were traveling to Notan city." Wu Yu answered grandmaster while opening and closing his eyes.
"Then were you doing something then that you didn't do now?" asked grandmaster who was attentively checking up on Wu Yu.
Trying to stand up, Wu Yu wobbled a bit and ended up falling down on his butt, "Ah, now that you mention it, I was doing something else, I was thinking about ways to kill an annoying fly."
"Annoying fly? why were you thinking about that?" grandmaster was dumbfounded and wondered if there was something wrong with Wu Yu's head.
Wu Yu was still kinda dizzy and answered, "yeah, there's this annoying fly back in a village I used to live, I never got a chance to kill him."
"Well, I hope you can kill that fly soon if it bothers you that much." grandmaster genuinely thought Wu Yu was talking about an actual fly and didn't think too much into it.
"Definitely, thank you for your support grandmaster, I'll go back and kill that fly as soon as I'm settled down here." Wu Yu smiled innocently as he said that.
"Okay, let's forget about this fly for now and evaluate your spirit, I think I got a better understanding of Wu Ji now." grandmaster said.
"Alright, I'm listening." Wu Yu said as he finally stood up without any problems, his dizziness had completely vanished.
Grandmaster said solemnly, "Well for one, I can say for sure, your spirit mutation is anything but detrimental, in fact this mutation might've made it too powerful."
"Really? how powerful?" Wu Yu asked excitedly. Grandmaster turned his head away from Wu Yu and looked at Wu Ji, "powerful enough to threaten the balance of this world!"
You guys didn't expect this, did you?
To be honest I've always been a big lover of mounts, but not many novels or entertainment really show mounts much love so why not I do it? A mounted warrior or Douluo in this case.
