Bab 21: Chapter Twenty-One: Gathering Strength
Over the course of a week, Evelyn and Alice decided to learn how to coordinate with one another amidst combat. With no one as an opponent, they decide to better their communication with one another. Alice's newly formed personality had a strange quirk to it; at times the way she presents herself is mature which is in confliction with her childlike tendencies. Her way of talking and the choice of words she speaks is indicative of her intelligence, but outside of that she simply has lacking or no knowledge. She had to learn most of everything from the bottom up.
At the beginning of the week, Evelyn had learned that Alice had no prior recollection before her awakening to being a nightmare doll. It was only because of instincts or a sense that Alice had that recognized Evelyn as her superior; someone she had to serve under. Alice felt compelled to serve Evelyn, and when she did a feeling of elation erupts within her. They conversed, they ate and drank with one another, and Evelyn even spent some time educating Alice on certain topics. It was a fresh and new experience for Evelyn but at the same time familiar as well. She was then reminded of Uchinomiya Haruna. Evelyn only wishes her the best. After all that has been said and done, Haruna was the only one who treated her the same way after word had got out.
They also sparred with one another. One was getting used to close combat while the other was getting used to being attacked with magic. Though not as effective as real battles, they still learned something beneficial with those spars. Every other time that they did not spar, Evelyn spent her time self-studying magic and Alice spent her time handling the oversized abyssal steel scythe. Ever since her clothes were destroyed from her sustaining a grievous wound, Alice wore something airier and simple.
"I don't like these clothes." Alice pouted. "Can I just have a simple white one-piece dress?"
That was what Alice had said when Evelyn got her the exact same design as last time. Evelyn did not know why Alice did not like it, but she assented to giving her what she wanted. Alice's face beamed when she put on her white one-piece dress. Giddy and beaming with joy she giggled to herself all day.
"Can I also get a cute hairpin?"
"I'd also like a bracelet!"
"How about-"
After that, requests came pouring out after the other. At the end of it all, Alice had a new dress along with a few accessories that she considered cute. A pair of blue earrings in the motif of a four-petal flower, a golden bracelet with a gem inlaid into it, and a bunny rabbit shaped hairpin that is clipped onto the left side of her head. Evelyn did not just get them for their appearance alone; they also provided some benefits.
White-Rabbit Hairpin. A hairpin in the shape of a rabbit. Made of common materials and enchanted with the nature of a rabbit. Provides a small boost to movement speed.
Gold Sapphire Bracelet. A bracelet made with gold and inlaid with a sapphire gemstone. Provides a small boost to one's vitality.
Four-leaf Sapphire Earrings. Earrings made from silver and sapphires. Provides a small boost to one's vitality.
The accessories were not too much in cost, and they also bolstered some of Alice's needed aspects for her role in the frontlines. Evelyn did not want the same thing to happen next time. Other than that, Evelyn also enjoyed watching Alice in contentment as she would hum as she accompanied Evelyn. It had made Evelyn wondered if having a sibling is anything close to what she had felt. So, their routine continued on like this for the whole week, with Evelyn and Alice slowly becoming closer as the week went on.

Lying in their bed, both Evelyn and Alice slept with one another. Alice had insisted that they sleep together, rather than Evelyn simply getting her a new bed to sleep in. Getting up, Evelyn carefully got out of bed. For now, Evelyn is simply going along with Alice wanted, but in the end, Evelyn wanted to expand the current house and put in a room for both her and Alice. Not only that but also for any of the other monsters that she would create fairly soon. With still over a thousand DP saved up, she wanted to create another monster. Evelyn had already thought about her plans. She wanted to first create a new helper and then with the remaining DP to expand the space and function of the house.
Like last time, Evelyn still wanted something in the shape of a human, so she went along with those guidelines. She was still more familiar with the motions and actions of a human. That would allow her to be more in sync with them more than if they retain the shape of a quadrupedal animal instead. She browses through the section that lists monsters that had human-like qualities and shape. Most of them from myths and lores that are found back in her old world.
A yuki-onna, an oni, a shape-shifting kumiho or kitsune, a succubus or incubus, harpies, centaurs, and minotaurs are just some of the few that she had considered on the list. More importantly other than their human-like qualities, she also wanted them to have some sort of intelligence. After Alice had obtained her sentience, Evelyn wanted to have all of her future monsters to have a sense of self and intelligence. That way, it would be easier for her to plan, teach, and convey all her meanings to her future comrades.
Browsing through the system interface for quite a while, Alice finally stirs from her sleep. Alice sits up with her eyes half closed, and her hands rubbing at her eyes; if one did not look closely one would think she is just a normal girl. With Alice waking up, Evelyn finally decides on what kind of monster her next one would be.
