It is one of the common adverse effects of illegal drugs, especially methamphetamines because it speeds up the heart rate and thus, putting stress on the heart, increasing the risk of its failure.

This concern caught the attention of the Department of Health, and so investigations were conducted. However, their claims of high antioxidant content and other health benefits were otherwise proven and not the suspicious addictive compound.
