They followed the two ladies for a while, when Liana thought of something.
(Liana) "Why is Lillian the chief exactly?"
(Liz) "It's… A long story. I'll tell you another time."
Liana, sensing that Liz wasn't very comfortable, changed the subject.
(Liana) "How old is Lillian?"
(Liz) "Hmm… It's July this month, so she just turned fifteen last month. You?"
(Liana) "I turned fourteen about a month ago or so. What about you?"
(Liz) "Strange enough as it seems, my sister and I share the same birthday. I turned fourteen last month, so I'm probably a little younger than you."
(Liana) "Whoa."
Liz chuckled, then gestured in front of them.
(Liz) "Look, that's the great hall. The place where Lillian talks to people when she's 'on duty'."
(Lillian) "You mean like talk to the people, listen to their needs, sort of thing, right?"
(Liz) "Yeah, pretty much. It's also where the men, or anyone reports to her. Unless, of course, they are told to report to her somewhere else."
By now, they had reached the door of the great hall.
(Liz) "Thank you, Rose, we can go in by ourselves. You two can have the rest of the day off. I'll let Lillian know."
(Both ladies) "Thank you, my lady. Then, we'll take our leave here."
They bowed and walked off.
(Liana) "So you kind of have the same authority as your sister, huh."
(Liz) "You… could say that."
As she said this, Liz pushed on the door. It swung open, revealing a large hall. There was a huge, throne-like chair at the end of the hall. Liana saw that Lillian was sitting in it. Other than the few people standing in front of Lillian talking to her, there were two soldiers on the sides of her, and another two standing further to the back. Lillian, seeing the two of them come in, stood up and started walking towards them, the people moving aside to let her pass. The soldier who was standing on her right hand followed her.
(Lillian) "Finally, you're here. I suppose I owe you an explanation don't I, Liana? Or has Liz already told you everything?"
(Liana) "Uhhh…
(Liz) "I told her a bit."
(Lillian) "Okay. Come on, let's go somewhere where we can get a little bit more privacy, then we can talk."
She turned around, then said,
(Lillian) "All of you can have the day off. No one is to disturb us for the rest of the day. Understood?"
(All the people) "Yes, ma'am."
They all bowed, then proceeded to exit out of a back door. Everyone, that is, except for the person who was standing behind Lillian. Liz turned to Lillian and asked,
(Liz) "What about Hunter?"
(Liana) "Who's Hunter?"
Liz gestured to the person behind Lillian.
(Liz) "He's Hunter. Supposed to be Lillian's personal bodyguard, from what I know."
(Liana) "Lillian needs a bodyguard??"
(Liz) "'Course not. But she is the chief, after all. Even the King should have a personal bodyguard, even if he is able to protect himself."
She looked at Liana with a raised eyebrow.
(Liana's thoughts) 'Does she know? I wonder…'
Liana thought, before her thoughts were cut off by Lillian saying,
(Lillian) "He can come along. Wouldn't leave me alone after he found out I got back and didn't tell him."
She turned to Hunter and said,
(Lillian, to Hunter) "Play nice. You are to treat Liana as if she was me or Liz, understand?"
(Hunter) "Understood. Don't worry, I wouldn't do anything to anyone if you weren't doing anything to them, or they weren't trying to hurt you."
Lillian nodded, then turned back to the other two. She stepped aside, revealing Hunter's full body and face, and Liana realized she hadn't exactly gotten a proper look at Hunter before that. When Lillian stepped to the side, she could see that Hunter was actually quite handsome. He had a nice face, and his body structure looked like that of one who trains often. Liana stepped up to him, and said,
(Liana) "Hi, I'm Liana. Nice to meet you."
(Hunter) "Nice to meet you too."
When he spoke, Liana could hear a distinct accent, but she couldn't quite place it.
(Liana's thoughts) 'He seems like a nice guy. His voice is nice, and his face is relatively handsome. And why am I thinking this?'
She tuned out her thoughts and turned to Lillian.
(Liana) "Are we going now?"
Lillian nodded, then turned around and moved to start walking.
(Lillian) "Let's go."
She started walking, and the rest of them followed her. They walked for quite a while, and Liana found herself thinking:
(Liana's thoughts) 'The room is bigger than I thought.'
Her thoughts wandered to Lillian and Hunter as they turned into a corridor.
(Liana's thoughts) 'Judging from my training with Lillian, she's more than capable of protecting herself. In fact, she's more powerful than anyone I've ever met. So why does Hunter insist on being her bodyguard? Maybe—'
Her thoughts were cut off as she realized they had stopped walking.
(Lillian) "Wait a moment."
She turned to the wall, muttered some things under her breath, and put her hands out. Liana saw that a door was slowly forming.
(Liana's thoughts) 'She will never cease to amaze me, it seems.'
When Lillian was done, she turned to them and said,
(Lillian) "Come on."
She turned back to the door and opened it. When they were all inside, Lillian closed the door. Upon being closed, it disappeared. Lillian turned to Liz, and Liz raised her right palm, and a table and a few chairs appeared. When Liana saw that, she got a shock. She didn't know Liz could do magic too.
(Liana) "You can do magic too??"
Liz and Lillian both looked at each other, then they both started laughing. After Lillian regained her composure she said,
(Lillian) "I would have thought that quite obvious."
Liana raised an eyebrow as she replied,
(Liana) "Not really."
Lillian chuckled, then gestured to the chairs.
(Lillian) "Come on, let's sit down, then we can talk."
They all sat down, except for Hunter. He refused to sit down saying,
(Hunter) "If I sit down, I may not be able to react in time if we are attacked."
Lillian chuckled at that and said,
(Lillian) "Just take a chair and sit down. You can sit nearer the entrance area if you like."
Hunter just nodded, pulled a chair next to the entrance, or rather, where the entrance was. When they were all seated, Lillian turned to Liana.
(Lillian) "So what do you want to know?"
Liana thought for a bit, then said,
(Liana) "Why don't you just tell me the whole story? If that's okay with you."
(Lillian) "I suppose that's okay. We know we can trust you anyway."
(Liana) "What about Hunter?"
(Lillian) "He's under a spell that makes him unable to repeat anything I say, or now you or Liz says. Unless, of course, I tell him to."
(Liana) "Cool."
Lillian hesitated, then a determined look came over her face. She took a deep breath and started talking.
(Lillian) "Then I'll start from the start. I didn't tell you everything Liz, so if you want to know the whole story, you should listen too. But there are some parts that you can take over."
Liz nodded.
(Liz) "Okay. I knew I was going to get the whole story someday anyway."
