Bab 12: Man&Beastman vs Nature
Josh looked at the place where James disappeared, and suddenly he felt as if someone was watching him with hostile intentions from far away. Josh ran on instinct to the closest rock which could cover him from his observer, and suddenly, he heard a click, and saw that his leg was in a snare which had trapped his leg. Josh bent down to free him self from the snare, but before he could do that, he felt something circular and cold on his back. Josh grabbed some mud while he was pretending to stand up, but before he could throw the mud on his ambusher, he heard a rough, old voice which said: {Move, and I will put you down where you squat}.
Josh could believe that this man would do so, because Josh heard it in his voice, this was a man who was experienced in killing, be it man or beast. This was something Josh had picked up from the many lessons he had with James. The man then continued: {You might have learned how to survive in the city, but you know shit when it comes to the wilderness, and this did so I could make you move exactly where I wanted you too}. Josh was surprised and asked the man: "I guess you did that, I will admit that, but I wonder, are you my new teacher"? The old man didn't answer and just tossed a knife on the ground in front of Josh and said: {Cut yourself loose, this will mark the beginning of marksmanship and wilderness class}.
After that the circular metal rod, most likely a gun, was removed from Josh`s back, and he cut himself loose. After that Josh looked at the man who ambushed him and saw an old, wrinkly, wolfperson with green clothes mixed with some dry mud on. Josh was surprised at looking at the first non-human he had ever seen and observed the person a bit more. As far as he could see, the person had fur all over his face, and on his head were to ears which was quite similar to a dogs ear, just that it had a much sharper point on the top. The man looked at Josh and said in the same rough voice: {I am called Lucius Star in the human tongue, and I am what you humans would call a pure beastman. I will be your teacher in marksmanship, hunting, non-urban survival and gun maintenance}. After that, the class begun, and Josh learned a lot. He learned how to follow prey without attracting suspicion from the prey, how to judge how old tracks were, how to use different kind of guns like rifles and shotguns, how to maintenance them so they would always work, how and where to set up a camp no matter in woods or snow and how to not be bothered by other predators.
This took Josh almost a year to learn, but now he was as silent as a mosquito in the woods, and he could hit a target at 900 metres away eight out of ten times. He also learned that smoke and fire would keep away most normal animals, but not mutants. For some reason, there was very few ways to keep them away when in the woods. Josh also got to look at some monsters from the world where Lucius came from, and they were terrifying. A random snake there was over 5 metres in diameter and could swallow a three-seater couch with no problem. The wolfs had horns on their forehead, and could run to over 90 kilometres in just a few minutes, but lucky just for a few minutes, or else there would be few hunters in that world.
