Bab 30: Acceptance
As usual, class was horrible for Izzy who suddenly felt the urge to punch the teacher in the face. He was explaining some of Cifidel's history and then finally ended off with.
" The Emperor then established the Cifidel kingdom after the mass separation of the two clans. The Thaetish Kingdom was also established under Queen Belana, after she tried to assassinate, Cifidel's first Emperor and failed. Of course most scholars attribute her betrayal to her commoner background-"
Izzy raised her hand and the Professor Lam looked down at her.
" What?" he sounded annoyed that she was asking a question but Izzy felt that what he was saying was no right.
" But wasn't the first Emperor also a commoner? Also didn't Queen Belana only try to kill him after he betrayed her and took in a concubine against her wishes?" …
Of course Izzy had learned more about the Cifidel Kingdom from the library. She was pretty sure that the professor was being biased in the retelling of Kingdom's history.
The professor looked angry at Izzy he stepped down from the platform and approached her desk.
" That may be true" he slammed his hand against her desk, " but in this classroom what I say goes. I also don't appreciate trash students to interrupting me"…
His beady eyes glazed over Izzy and then he went on spewing his own views about the importance of the imperial structure. It was then that Izzy tuned out of his lecture and regretted ever taking her modern education for granted.
The professor here had no care for his students and invested no time and energy in developing them.
Izzy thought that he was the type of teacher that used his authority as tool to exert his power and the scanned the classroom.
The other students all had their head lowered and were quiet.
They never raised their hands nor asked any questions. It seemed like they were only here because they had to be.
Once the professor left, Izzy got up and walked to Weigela's desk.
" Weigela, why doesn't anyone do anything to stop the professor? I mean he treats us like we're not even human".
Vicar who sat in the back of the class loudly pushed back his chair.
" Weren't you listening? No one cares about the weak".
He then angrily walked out and Izzy thought that he had some serious anger issues.
Weigela got up and Leithi followed behind them. The other students had already left and Izzy knew little about them.
" It's because he hates being assigned to us." Weigela explained " The professor would have had a permanent teaching position a year ago. But because none of us have progressed he blames us and thinks that we should not even be in this academy. We're just commoners so he thinks that the academy is doing us a favor by letting us study here, so we have no right to complain."
" But this is just not right, how can we even learn in this environment?"
Weigela shrugged and smiled " Well you get used to it".
That statement did not sit well with Izzy, she did not want to 'get used to it'. She came from a lifetime of freedom and now was now witnessing and experiencing oppression. Izzy felt that something needed to change, but what could she do?
Izzy walked beside Weigela in silence looking up at her and thought that she was a very strong person. To have dealt with this type of environment for so long.
