Bab 42: Chapter 42: The End of the Auction
"Now without any further ado let me present to you the first item!" the auctioneer said while signalling to his subordinates. Slowly a tall woman covered in scales walked onto the podium. Here sharp wild gaze swept across the hall, her fighting intent prevalent. The Dungeon Masters met her gaze as they tried to uphold their honour. Some succeeded yet others had cowered back in fear. The woman slowly surveyed the hall and eventually, her gaze met with Escor. She looked at him aggressively as her wild domineering aura fluctuated about her. She gave off the feeling of a king of the jungle, an alpha. Escor fearlessly met her gaze with a calm refined gazed. Yet hidden within was a sharp point ready to burst out with devastating power at any moment. This caused the woman's pupils to constrict as her lips curved ever so slightly. She moved her gaze to the last remaining Dungeon Master. Her aura reached her peak and her hunger for battle almost solidified in the air. She gazed intently at the man whose eyes were closed. His eyes slowly opened and his deep indifferent gaze bore down on her. When his eyes met hers her aura immediately collapsed as she immediately gathered all the mana in her body and created a thin shield in front of her. Don't underestimate this shield just because it was thin. It could probably take two of Escor's strongest attacks. However, in front of that man, anything she did was useless. Fortunately, the auctioneer chose this exact moment to intervene, "This is Marux. As you can see she is a draconian woman and with that comes great power. The highest bidder will be able to own her but having her succumb to your will is not our responsibility. The starting price is 100 DP!" Despite looking calm on the outside the auctioneer was actually very shocked. Marux used to be one of their strongest guards however due to her making a grievous mistake she was being auctioned off today. However, the Thousand Treasures Auction Hall did nothing to restrain her combat mastery. She had killed many men was extremely formidable yet a single gaze from that man was enough to restrain her. This gave the auctioneer even more hope that the two princesses are in capable hands. Yet he was also afraid of that man.
Not surprisingly no one bet for the draconian woman. Her wild battle-hungry gaze was enough to deter the Dungeon Masters. So far, of those who revealed their power, only Roas and Escor had a chance of having her listen to orders but even those two would be a stretch. The only man who could subdue her was Marcus. Just as the auctioneer was about to end the auction Marcus suddenly said, "100." His voice once again reverberated in the hall. After making his bid he closed his eyes and refused to pay any more attention to the auction. "3!2!1! Sold!" The auctioneer quickly ended the transaction and motioned for the next item to be presented. If it were anyone else Marux would have felt unresigned at being bought at the minimum price. However, in front of that man, she put away all her pride. On the contrary, she felt honoured at the thought of being able to serve him.
The next items created a bidding war amongst the Dungeon Masters. Among them was a masterfully crafted sword and a saber imbued with powerful mana. There was also a big towering shield that seemed to block out everything. Marcus also bought ten dark elves due to Gaia's insistence. He bid for them once and refused to offer anything higher. In the end, Marcus got them for 50DP. Soon the final item of the auction walked up to the podium. The man had two swords on his back and he had a solemn gaze that was commonly found on war veterans. The auctioneer introduced him as Vaun. He was a soldier turned mercenary. During the time he roamed the universe he made many enemies which led to lots of blood debts and bounties on his head. One day he arrived at the Thousand Treasures Auction almost dead. Long story short the Thousand Treasures Auction saved him and in exchange, he decided to be sold off in an auction. Of course the same caveat of having enough power to subdue your items existed. His starting price was 110DP. This high valuation showed how invaluable his skills and experience are to an army. His calm demeanour and his background as a soldier made many Dungeon Masters decide to bid on him despite his overwhelming strength compared to theirs. A soldier would always be loyal to their lord and never betray them. This meant that they would have a powerful eternally loyal follower who would do anything for them. Marcus watched the bidding war with slight amusement. His fellow Dungeon Master's optimistic thinking made him want to laugh. The Thousand Treasures Auction obviously wouldn't issue such a warning for no reason and more importantly, the Thousand Treasures Auction would never offer anything subpar. However, this man was nearing the end of his life and many injuries on his body prevented him from fighting at this full power. Would the Thousand Treasures Auction really auction him just for his intelligence? Let's take a step back and say they would but would the Thousand Treasures Auction save him just for his intelligence? How would they even be able to find out that he was intelligent if he was half dead? Obviously this man hid a lot of secrets. Unfortunately, he couldn't hide it from Marcus. This man was truly worthy of being the final item. Marcus smiled and signalled to Marux to raise the current bid three times. Marux was shocked at Marcus' financial strength but more importantly at his insight. She knew exactly what kind of strength Vaun hid but that was only due to her being an insider. Nevertheless, she needed to carry out her new master's orders faithfully. She quickly announced her master's bid, "900DP!" With that announcement, the Special Auction finally ended.
