Bab 4: Chapter 3

Now I understand why this place is so cheap, and why you should always visit before renting a place, at first I thought, wow, it may be haunted, especially in this city, and even got excited for it, interested in the paranormal as I am, but then I thought, entering the place, that it may be for the shabby appearance of the building inside, with so many broken things and old stuff falling lose.

But no, is not only that I realize when I get to my small place and pace towards the bedroom on the side, is actually the freaking gargoyles standing right outside my window, not only taking most of the view and space but still crouched in a way that they are always able to stare back at my apartment with a perfect view from the inside, and the same goes for me as I can always find one staring in no matter where I stood.

I mean, I know they are just statues, or at least I hope so, but still having their never shifting wide gaze set straight towards me and so close, right outside my window, is a little unsettling to say the least.

But at that point I'm already too tired, mentally and physically, to care anymore so I just take the boxes of books to the side so I can unpack tomorrow and finally go around a little to see how my new home for the next few months is.

It does not take long, the place is quite small yet comforting, just the way I like it, with a small open kitchen to the side, a living room where there is barely enough space to fit a round two chairs table and a small couch, and a single bedroom with the only bathroom of the place on the side.

At least it had a small bathtub, which is what made me chose this place beyond many others, always enjoyed the coziness of a warm bath after a hard day, one of those little daily joys.

And it actualy does not sound like a bad idea at all right now…

So while I browse on my phone and pay for dinner, I use the time that I have to wait for it to put some of my clothes out and my pajamas too, and after my trip down and up the stairs again, I enjoy the warm meal and a full of warm water bathtub right afterward.

I change the layout of the living room a bit so that the small round dining table can stay right beside the long window, and as I drink some soda I stare outside towards the buzzy street and the long buildings stretching out, almost all bearing gothic architecture, as if it mandatory for at least the exterior to have, since my own simple apartment does not look shabby from the outside at all, all in a strange mix of the new skyscrapers and the old gothic mansions, definitely unique.

I must say, if it is because of tourism that they keep it that way, it is working very well so far for the city is booming.

I sigh as I feel a headache forming on my forehead from all the stress and anxiety this situation brings, from moving in to a new job to being in such a different place.

And yet my excitement is enough to overcome all of it, otherwise I would not be here in the end would I?

Sigh, I don't know anymore, but since I'm here already might as well give it a shot, nothing needs to be the same forever and if it doesn't work I may as well live off from my books.

That's something I have to thank these cities for, because I used to write about my knowledge a lot in my blogs and books, but the amount made… well, it was taken as purely fantastic and creative content, nothing more, and many went there only to play around, use it for their own books or RPG tabletop plays.

But all changed when the cities came to be, and when the first instinct is to coil and fear and try to understand my books came to light, all the content matching to the minimal details, being the most accurate of the lot.

Like garlic, holy water, crucifix, pff, forget about all that, may give the vampire a massage while at that.

And that's how they found me, and I ended up in the situation I'm in, as some sort of paranormal investigator, and consultant.

Such a big name for a low profile guy like myself, I don't know what came over me to accept this job, but when I heard that I would be able to move in here my heart skip a beat.

And who wouldn't? After living in the shadow of the other world, as I like to call my previous life, and being told for so long that these things are just fruit of my imagination, having the opportunity of meeting the creatures that I dream and wrote about is just… too tempting.

So even a shy guy like myself had uttered the courage to move in here.

My gaze goes to the sky to my wristwatch, and even though I knew the conditions this city lived in I'm still surprised to see that, even if is night time of a full moon night, the clouds over us prevented any type of sunlight from passing through, which gave the sky an image very worth of a painting, with dark clouds like waves forming an ocean on top of our heads, and the light being absorbed and barely giving form to the misty substance up above, blue light mixing in with the thick clouds of this always artificially light up city.

For humans conveniences I quickly suppose, since most of its residents did not need those street lights, and is quite amusing that the Lord of this town thought about my kin when designing this place.

I wonder what kind of person he is… governing such an extravagant city, having its commerce flourish while keeping a healthy relationship with the humans country.

I sound like an intriguing man indeed, but that's a pity, for I'm sure I will not have the chance to meet such an illustrious creature, I bet it would be an interesting encounter indeed, I can only imagine the stories such old mythical creature could have.

With those thoughts in mind, wondering about tomorrow, I finally go to my bedroom to sleep, letting the tiredness sweep me into a deep slumber, and hoping anxiety would not wake me in the middle of the night.
