Bab 15: Father in Law
When they arrived at the village's outpost, Sylphy breaks our holding hands and she get the basket full of food in Rudy's other hand.
Although she doesn't want to let go of his hand, she still embarrass to face her father while holding her friend's hand tightly.
Rudy, of course didn't mind. He misunderstands that she let go so if the adults so them, he will not be shunned too.
Sylphy immediately approach her father when she sees him at the top of the watch tower, holding his bow while overseeing the forest. His dad was a typical elf if you ask him, long pointy ears with shining gold hair that tied at the back. He doesn't realize that this man was a half elf.
"Dad, your lunch..." She carefully gave the basket to her father.
"You're a great help, Luffy." He couldn't help but feel ashamed to always troubling her daughter and wife for his lunch.
"It's okay, dad. I want to help you." Sylphy's parents are very kind to her. So even though she can do little things for now, she wants to repay there love and also show them how much she means to them.
"Did someone bullied you again?" He suddenly become serious when he asked her daughter about this.
Although his wife has little amount of beast lineage and he was half-elf, they couldn't help but blame themselves about there daughter being bullied everyday. The only thing that they can do is to show her how much they love her no matter what her hair color is.
"No. Someone help me." Sylphy looks at her back and finally saw her savior.
He needs to show his confident look to his future father in law. If Rudy shows weakness here, he might not accept him as his son in law. After all, parents always want the best for there child.
"I'm pleased to meet you. My name is Rudeus Greyrat." He put his right hand to his chest and slightly bow to his father in law, a gesture of nobles when they introduce themselves.
"Greyrat... To think I'm seeing Paul's son for the first time. You really are polite kid." He was impressed about this kid's magnanimous behavior.
"The pleasure is mine, father." Rudy being confident, he address his father in law as father.
"Oh apologies, you can call me Uncle Rawls." Sylphy's dad didn't get Rudy's subtle hints and thinks that he only called him father because he doesn't know his name.
Rawls explain to them about his job. He was one of the guards who maintain the peace that surrounds the village. According to him, this watch tower in the village's outpost was meant to observe if any monsters come from the forest. It is manned 24 hours a day, patrolled by the men of the village.
Paul was also takes the shift since after he retired as an adventurer, he needs to help his family's income and to prevent his skills become rusty.
Since this is the case, the two young fathers was sometimes see each other from time to time and always discussed about there child.
"My Luffy appears this way because she resembles our ancestors a little. Please get along well with my daughter." She was glad that Sylphy finally have friend. He couldn't help but feel proud to his dear daughter.
"Please be at ease, father. Even if Sylphy is from the Speld tribe, my attitude will not change. I swear upon my father's name." Rudy said this and look at Sylphy with a smile on his face.
Sylphy didn't hide his embarrassment and smiles at him back while blushing.
After hearing the declaration of Paul's son, Rawls couldn't help but utter a voice of admiration.
"You understand about honor at such a young age. I'm envious of Paul having such an excellent child." Rawls said.
"Being excellent at such tender age does not mean the one will continue of being excellent. And besides, I can see Sylphy's potential and she's adorable when you get to know her. You can wait until Sylphy grows up, father." He doesn't want to call himself an excellent when his previous life, he was only a normal person.
Rudy wants to give her confidence while she was still young. He knows that Sylphy will become a powerful magician that capable of protecting the princess, Ariel Anemoi Asura's life.
Sylphy however, are passed the point of no return. She finally falls in love with him. First, Rudy protects her from the bullies. He understand her feelings about hiding his real identity due to his demon eyes. And now, she always gives her courage to not hate herself. She was determined to repay his kindness and help him whenever she can.
"I see, I'm really glad that you've become my daughter's friend." Rawls can now be at ease since he can trust Rudy about his daughter's safety.
Rudy feels that the corner of his sleeves was being pulled. He noticed that Sylphy was trying to hide her blushed face while tugging his sleeves. He can't help smiling at Sylphy's cute action.
"Father... I mean, Uncle Rawls. Can we play for a little while?" He corrected how to addressed his future father in law when he saw his emotionless eyes. He must be thinking why his daughter was very close to him.
"Of course, but don't astray to the deep forest. Some dangerous monsters are lurking there." As an adult and as a parent, he was responsible for the children's safety. He makes sure that they always avoid dangerous places.
"Don't worry, Uncle Rawls. we found a really big tree up on the hill when we came here. I plan that we play over there since I think that the bullies won't go over there.
I will bring Sylphy back before the sun sets so we don't miss dinner. But if you don't see us when you return home, then the possibility of us being in some form of trouble is very high, so please search for us if that happens." He knows what he's capable of, so if something that beyond his abilities happened, he might need the strength of adults.
Rawls couldn't help to be impressed once again about this child's judgement. Maybe he might consider to ask Paul about the engagement of there child. It's a waste if he let this opportunity passed by, you never know when will you find a man that suits to your daughter.
He waves to the two children until he can't see them.
"Do you have a suggestion what can we play?" They finally arrived in the hill with a giant tree on the top. Rudy asked her if she preferred something to play.
"Uhmmm... Instead of playing, can you teach me about what you do earlier?" While being embarrassed, she gathered her courage and asked him to teach her magic.
'I see, she really destined to become a magnificent magician huh? Okay, I'm going to shake things up and teach you something that doesn't exist in this universe.' Rudy thinks while sneering.
Sylphy seeing this, suddenly jolts and her instinct tell her that she made a bad choice of asking him about magic.
"Uhmmm... It's okay if you don't want to." Now she was being afraid about his new friend's sudden change of face.
"No no no. I really want to teach you about magic. It's just that you will experience a rigorous training that you might given up. So I need to ask you if you have the resolved to finish my magic lessons." His thoughts leaking out through his face, Rudy needs to know poker face or someone can manage to tell what he was thinking right now.
Since she feels motivated at the thought of using magic to help Rudy, Sylphy finally agrees to his rigorous training. Now the die has been cast, Rudy prepares her training regime and once she master them, the very foundation of magic in this world will be shaken.
