Bab 38: In the Daycare - Chapter 31

"Hey." Adam said smiling awkwardly. My eyes widened but I quickly composed myself. David who was playing with his blocks stopped and walked over to me, standing next to me.
Adam crouched down before sitting on the bright green carpet. I focused my eyes on Jewel who was looking up trying to figure out who in the world the person next to me was. The adorable look of confusion on her face was enough to calm my rapid heart beat. Jewel continued sucking on her hand while doing so.
"So, you staying with Sara?" He asked. I glanced at him to see he was staring directly at me. I quickly looked away. I nodded.
"That's good." He said in a happy tone. I turned to David who was still staring at Adam. His cracker stuffed in his mouth. I smiled at him softly.
"David, chew your food." I said. He started chewing his food but his eyes never left Adam's. I picked Jewel up and sat David down I'm my lap, before realizing he hadn't washed his hands.
"Angel, go wash your hands quickly." I said. " so you can hold your sister."
He rushed off to go wash his hands. Adam stared deeply at us during the entire exchange.
"Is there something you need?" I said softly. His eyes flashed with hurt.
"I just came here to talk with you." He said. I felt guilt ring up inside of me, although I hand done nothing wrong. David soon came back with wet hands. I laughed before making him dry his hands on his shirt. Adam slowly got up and made his way for the door, realizing that I wouldn't talk to him. I turned to him figure as he was just about to open the door to leave.
"Wait." I said softly. "I'm sorry." He turned around and sat back down.
"I'm not very good at this.." I said.
"Good at what?" He asked.
"Well, I'm not very good at, this." I said as David sat down in my lap.
"Talking?" Adam said with an eyebrow raised. I shrugged slightly.
"Yeah, I guess.." I said. He smiled softly. My breathing paused as I stared at him, my heart rate that had just calmed down instantly picking up again.
"Kiki!" David said patting my leg. I turned back to see him patiently waiting for me to pass Jewel to him. I took a deep breath before slowly passing Jewel to him. He carried her delicately as if she would break if he ever put to much pressure on her. I smiled at him. Jewel took her hand out of her mouth before waving her hands around excitedly, her tapping David's face with her wet hands as she did so. David's face twisted slightly.
I laughed at him before rubbing his head with my hand. I noticed only then the deep look Adam had in his eyes. He raised a hand to towards my head. My mind flickered to when Garrett had done the same thing. I flinched abruptly and hugged Jewel and David right in my arms, my head resting on top of David's. Adam quickly pulled his hand back as his face changed to a look of unexplainable sadness. The yellow hair clip falling to the ground.
"I'm, sorry. Your hair pin was out of place and-"
I gently took Jewel from David who stood um from my lap quickly and quietly. I stood up next to him. Sometimes his mind reading skills amazed me on how face he picked up. Adam stood up as well.
"Vikky, I'm really sorry, I just thought that-"
I grabbed David's hand before walking back to the room I picked up Jewel from. Adam stood there staring at the ground. His expression unreadable. I paused upon entering the room.
My feeling were such a mess. The more I saw him it made me feel good, but the second he tries to touch me I run away like a little girl? I put Jewel in her crib and let go of David's hand. I brushed my hair back with both hands as I let out a shaky breath. Why couldn't I just forget him? I sat down in my back resting on the wall. David came up to me and held my face with his small hands. I looked up at him, forcing a smile.
"Yes angel?" I said sniffing. David looked at me before pressing a wet kiss on my cheek. I smiled. The tears I was trying to hide came flowing down as I pulled David into a hug.
"You know how much I love you guys right?" I said shakily.
"Yes. I love you too Kiki." He said sweetly. I laughed while rubbing his back. Pulling back from him. I looked at his face. I lifted my hand and caressed his face.
"Your such a brave and strong boy, you know that?" I said. He shook his head.
"No, Kiki is stronger." He said, having some trouble pronouncing stronger. I smiled at him again before hugging him.
"I think I have to go now, okay Angel? I'll come at the end of the day to pick you up. Alright?" I said to him. He took a step back and fumbled with his fingers. I stood up and rearranged my uniform.
"But, your not don't crying!" He said to me. I laughed before wiping my eyes.
"No angel, I am done. See? No more tears." I said before smiling widely for him. He laughed before commenting on my silly face before hugging me bye and rushing to go back and play with his blocks he had left. I turned towards the crib to see a sleepy Jewel looking back at me, her hand still stuffed in her mouth.
"I love you too princess." I said kissing her forehead. She took out her wet hand and reached out to my neck and rubbed it. It was her own way of showing her affection. I giggled quietly before pulling away and leaving the room. When I stepped outside, I looked to see Adam nowhere. David patted my leg. I looked down at him.
"He said he sorry." David said. I felt another string on guilt and sadness overwhelm me but I smiled and rubbed David's cheek.
"Okay angel, I have to go to class now, keep watch your sister okay? Be good!" I said waving bye as I closed the door. Leaving the colorful classroom and walking out of the bright hallway. After entering the hallway, I made my way towards my lock to collect my books. I opened my locker and looked up before screaming loudly. I dropped everything in my hands
In what I prayed wasn't what I thought it was, in large red colored "ink", the words 'you shouldn't have done that' were written on my locker door. I glanced down at my hand to see the mysterious red liquid coating my fingers.
