Bab 7: Chapter Seven
An expanded ray of green light exploded in the surroundings, bathing their sights with those lights. Li Jie and Wang Wei look towards the source, dusts covered the area, after a while the light beam that was supposed to change directions blasted all the dusts away and continue its destruction towards the door.
"Even Elder Song's full power can't change its course?" sadness and despair was apparent on both their faces. However it did stop the light beam for a moment, so it was not in vain.
Heart palpitating, Vritra thought her breath attack was stopped, but when seeing that it was continuing onwards she secretly sigh in relief. She noticed the distance was lengthened between the fleeing humans and her breath attack. "At this rate they're going to reach the door first!" Vritra thought worriedly. Closing her eyes, she silently cast a support magic without second thoughts.
-Terraformar-
Chanting silently, the land within hundred yards, Vritra as the center trembled intensely. Li Jie and Wang Wei was already losing hope when Elder Song failed his attempt in changing the light beam's course, however when they felt the land trembling they couldn't help but feel a bad premonition in their hearts. Glancing towards the center of the tremor, their eyes instantly went wide with shock, surrounding the monster girl, the trees and muddy ground was slowly turning into stones and rocks. The silver colored rocks expanded in alarming rate, heading towards them!
Hurry! Increasing their speed the distance towards the door was decreasing madly, but it was all in vain, the surrounding trees disappeared and were replaced by a ragged terrain full of metallic stones and rocks. But that was not all of it; from time to time metallic gray spikes would come out from the ground and blocks their way. When they tried attacking it they were shock to see white mark can be seen using their full strength, so instead they avoid them. This decision only led them further away from the door. Gritting their teeth, they can only hope that the seal will last longer.
-Terraformar- a support magic that has the ability to change the surrounding terrains to the casters preference. Vritra receive this blessing when she reached the 5th stage of Chaos body foundation realm, she was ecstatic and tried different landforms. However this time, her priority was stopping the humans from escaping or possibly blocked them completely. The mastery of magic was separated into stars. One star - beginner, Two stars - intermediate, Three stars - advanced, four stars - master, five stars - birth.
Vritra's level mastery in her magic's is only at one star the beginner levels, however the -Chaos Armor- her most used skills was at the peak of two stars almost breaking to three stars. The condition is very simple is just to keep activating the magic one received.
Only people that have more strength than Vritra can escape these terrains. Those inhabitants that already reach a star above hers can easily break through her magic.
But against the humans whose cultivation was only at Core formation realm? This terrain was a nightmare to them; they also notice the gravity was increased by two fold, slowing them down. They can only do their best to evade the stone spikes that's trying to impale them without warnings.
Due to stress and wariness towards the sudden appearance of stone spikes, the duo didn't notice the disappearance of one of their teammates: Zhang Min.
The Qi in their bodies was depleting in an alarming rate, for some unknown reason the energy of heaven and earth was not entering their bodies or more likely the duo can't sense those energies in this place. Since Qi Condensation realm, the cultivators absorb energy from heaven and earth and use that energy to execute martial art skills! This energy was the very foundation and the start of their journey in becoming a powerful expert in their world!
Realizing that they can't sense the energy from heaven and earth, it feels like being abandoned by the heavens itself! Li Jie was going crazy of all the difficulties they were facing, gritting his teeth he sent telepathic message towards Wang Wei who was already covered with wounds and blood.
"Brother Wang do you have any plan?" Li Jie who was one of the Core disciples of the sect and was dub genius can only place his hope on his simple-minded teammate.
"Actually I do brother Li" already having difficulty avoiding the stone spike's sudden attack, but at this moment Wang Wei was actually smiling. Hearing this Li Jie was shocked and was skeptical at the moment but has no choice but to listen to his teammate first.
"Charge towards the light beam!" suggested Wang Wei through telepathic message. Hearing this Li Jie almost wanted to puke blood into Wang Wei's face intentionally.
"And why would we go to our deaths instead of escaping though the door?" massaging his forehead Li Jie ask back just in case.
"Idiot Look at the light beam!" replied Wang Wei back and on his face was can't-you-even-get-what-i-mean look.
Seeing his teammate insulting expression Li Jie almost want to smack his face. In the end Li Jie locked all those bitter feelings and look at the approaching light beam. He can't help but shudder at the immense power in that thing, he was sure he would evaporate if he was hit by that. However he saw hope amidst the destruction the light beam was wrecking including the terrain!
The still struggling Vritra saw everything and realized that her breath attack was destroying the magic -Terraformar-, she felt like an idiot. She was confused why she did that. The seal was emitting cracking sounds and was about to break, however Vritra was not happy at all, if she was to wait, everything would then be too late!
"PIERCE!!"
Using every power of control she had towards the terrain, she changed one part of it and put it in standby for the humans to approach. Unknowingly to her, the mastery level of -Terraformar- was approaching Intermediate Mastery from Beginner Mastery.
Li Jie and Wang Wei were only waiting for the light beam to pass them by, due to the obstacles, the door that was supposed to be reach long time ago, now was very difficult for them to achieve. By using the light beam they follow behind it hoping that the power will diminished the moment it reach the door.
"Let's go!"
After the light beam passes them by, Li Jie and Wang Wei hurriedly followed behind, they still felt a sense of danger watching the light beam destroying one stone spikes after another where they can't even put a scratch on. Less than five feet before contact, the expected explosion didn't happen. Li Jie and Wang Wei who was bracing themselves saw the door absorbs the light beam and like a thirsty man in a dessert, the door's humming sound echoed in the surroundings, even the dark gray color of the door turned gray in an instant. The carvings were now prominent and the ancient runes were glowing brightly before it disappears silently.
Shock appeared on their faces and even Vritra herself didn't expect a door to absorb her attack! But after thinking it through, it actually was possible; the ancient door survived for thousands of years and still existed until now.
They are less than ten feet before entering the door, if it was in the past this distance was easy as walking, but when the gravity was increased by twofold, adding the mental stress accumulating due to fatigue, this distance was the hardest to traverse to in both their entire lives.
Wang Wei's danger instinct suddenly kicked in, he saw at the corner of his eyes five meters away from the door a sword-like rock glinted with metallic shin pounce with blinding speed towards Li Jie who was at the moment too excited to notice the danger his in.
"Watch Out!" Activating his body strengthening martial skill, he uses it to ram at Li Jie who didn't notice the danger and was smash into one of the stone spikes! Blood splattered in the area, Li Jie who was coming back from dizziness saw his teammate pale face and blood slowly trickled down from his mouth. Guilt suddenly assaulted Li Jie's heart, he was regretting for celebrating too early.
"Run…hurry…she's…coming!"
He was about to apologize when at the distance he saw the dragon girl approaching them with blinding speed.
"Go…just go...it's too late for…I…just tell…everyone…about…what happened here!" breathing raggedly Wang Wei was trying to console Li Jie, who's pain and guilt evident on his face. Wang Wei can't help but secretly laugh at him. Noticing that there was no time, he ignited his soul to push away Li Jie.
"Don't worry brother Wang I'll tell the world what happened here!" seeing Wang Wei igniting his soul Li Jie no longer hesitate and sped towards the door. Glancing back he saw the shadow of the dragon girl and those cold but beautiful golden eyes staring at them with hatred that borders abnormality. But before he can continue observing those beautiful eyes his scenery change and turns into ruins that's familiar to him. "I'm back" he whispered before passing out.
Forty seconds earlier, Vritra finally broke the sealing formation array and sped towards the escaping humans. Due to the -Terraformar- her overall combat power increased by twenty percent. Approaching the humans with extreme speed she was still too late. Her killing intent was expose for everyone to see, it even distorted the area red.
"Tsk, you humans are good on tricks and fast in running away huh" said Vritra whose anger subsided down and clarity returned to her eyes. Upon realizing the mistakes in this battle she now understood her lack of battle experience, yes, she has power and was lucky that his enemies are in foreign environment and thus was not at their full strength.
But it was different if she were to be assign into another world to cultivate her Summoner's Heart. She desperately needs someone to train to before going on any missions.
"Human do you pity me?" said Vritra coldly, she noticed long ago the shock gaze this human gave her. Wang Wei saw the beautiful yet majestic appearance of the girl. She was like the story he heard when he was young, the godly tales of the dragons that rule above all else. Her scale armored body was not ugly to behold, but was like a beautiful art carved by the gods. Crack of golden lightning was like a snake slithering all over her skin. The azure colored scale was highlighting her beautiful golden eyes that coldly looked at him.
But the gaze Wang Wei saw was not directed at him, but mostly to his kind. The human race who this monster hated to the bones.
"Yes…little lass, I do…pity…you" said Wang Wei with difficulty after he was captivated by her beauty and majestic aura.
"Humph! Feel sorry for me...do please tell me why that is?" said Vritra coldly, she extended her hands and sent a little chaos energy towards the dying human to heal him enough to finish talking.
"Because girls at your age…should be free of worries and see the beauty of the world. I don't know what happened to turn an innocent girl like you into a killer who murders without reason and judge humans to be…evil in your eyes, that's why I feel…sorry for you" said Wang Wei "but please hear this dying man's words…don't judge the whole human race as…evil. We are not perfect…some are trying to do good and change the human race for the better…I can feel that through your hands lies the decision whether the humans in my world…live or die. That's what I feel from you…"
Vritra was listening intently and also notice the life of this human was seeping slowly out of his body. It's only about few breaths time before this human's suffering will end. But it was enough and replied to him coldly.
"The past is no longer important to me, what's done is done, and one thing I'm sure is that you the human race destroyed many races and tribes to the brink of extinction. If not for our beloved Silver King I will be included to those desecrated souls who can never find peace. And my mission will be to give my people peace by destroying the human race!" Vritra replied coldly and saw the pain and sadness the human shows in his eyes. She clearly saw it and can't help but feeling angry because those eyes was not meant for humanity but for her instead.
