Bab 10: Chapter 9
"Kaiser."
"What kid?"
"I'm hungry."
"Again? You ate a while back ago."
"That was hours ago."
"Let's keep heading to our destination."
"No, I said I'm hungry."
"We're almost there."
"You said that days ago."
We were lost. A week had already went by since we left the village. After leaving the village, I woke up to find that Kaiser had got us lost. We've been in the wilderness the entire time and haven't come across any signs of people. The trees were tall and we were in deep. There was no way to tell where we were heading to. We weren't knowledgeable at nature related things.
"We'll take a break when we hit a stream."
"I'm tired eating of fish."
"Boy, you can't be picky."
I knew. I was use to eating worst things that could be considered an abomination. I lived out in the streets for a good time and the leftover food that I could scrap from the streets was the usual. Eating fish was way better than eating from a pile of garbage but I had noticed, he would go out of his way to change up one of the meal in a day and sometimes two meals out of the three. When I complained to him what I wanted to eat, he would try to make it come true. It was a matter of pushing him to change up the entire meals for the whole day.
"I want something sweet."
"Kid… You're asking too much. You get what you get."
"Tch."
"What did you say you little shithead."
"Oh look! That's a road!"
I clearly heard him but it really was a road. We had came out of a thick wall of bushes and finally came upon a road! It was a dirt road parallel from us. I couldn't see where they were heading to since it curved and the trees blocked where it went.
"Kaiser."
"Yeah?"
"Which way should we go?"
"You tell me kid. You've been nagging nonstop that it was my fault we got lost."
"But it was your fault."
"..."
I couldn't see his face expression under his helmet but I think he was getting mad now. I shouldn't poke at him anymore. Stepping onto the path I pointed right for no good reason.
"This way."
"Sure, now it's your fault if we go the wrong way."
"What? that's mean."
"Maybe if you were responsible enough, you would make your own decision yourself."
He was right so I didn't refute the comment. I really enjoyed his accompany so I had pinned him with a sense of guilt. He extended his contract since he claimed it was mainly his fault that we landed at an unfortunate event. He said until we got to a town he would start the first three days of the contract.
We had continue walking for a good while, keeping up with his strides was rough. It drained me overtime and soon I wouldn't be able to keep up. I kept going until my knees buckled and my legs failed.
"My legs are done for."
"You serious?"
"Yeah…"
"Good luck."
"..."
"Get on."
He took a knee, letting me mount on his back. It was usual for him to carry me now. At first he complained about it, saying about how I needed to be baby sat but as the days pass he complained less.
Coming up and going over a hill, in the far distance we could see colorful tents and many people walking around. It seemed like a small group of traders.
"Get off my back."
Listening to him I got off. We approached it and he had his right hand holding his sheath. He did this multiple of times over the week and when he did, he perceived there was a possibility of a threat. As we got closer, It was packed with strange suspicious people in different colors.
"Aaaah!" yelping at the surprise of our arrival, It was a woman in a blue professional outfit that revealed her legs. Her dark blue hair was tied into a ponytail. Her eyes radiated a bright purple color. It had matched her blue sharp outfit. She had a natural friendly face that made people feel more comfortable with.
"Our master would be please to have guest!"
"Master of what."
"Excuse my lack of explanation. We're a band of entertainers making our way around the continent. If you'd like to see some of our attraction, we'll more be more than happy to show you around what you could possibly see on our shows."
"We're fine."
"That's not what the face of this lil fellow is saying."
She had winked at me. Winking at me, I realized my face had curled into an awe without my awareness. The thought of experiencing something extravagant like this had me excited. I had looked at Kaiser, seeing if we could stay.
"Let's… see what you have."
I tried to smile, I was truly happy. Many people told me I had been an expressionless person so I had continued to work on it recently.
"Right! Come up here, you'll get front row seat to the wonders of my master."
With her enthusiastic hand gestures, I was hyped up for what was to come. Even if it wasn't much, it would be more exciting than seeing the constant boring parts of nature that I've been seeing for a week.
"To the tent on our left, you'll see a man eating a sword."
I was excited. A monster eating a sword was normal but a person? I couldn't fathom how that would work. She had opened the curtain confident that her subordinates would deliver a spectacle. What appeared before us was a seated man eating his sandwich he had brought, he had froze in place with a guilty look. She closed the curtain and continued on like nothing had happened.
"Oh! To the tent coming to our right there's the famed red little drake. He puffs flames making art with it!"
She began picking up the pace though it was slower than Kaiser's usual walking speed. Arriving there, she lifted the curtain wide open.
A man was nursing a sleeping tiny red drake in his arms while rocking back and forth in a chair. The man with his bushy eyebrows and menacing large eyes looked at us.
"Ah, I'm so sorry!" she bowed furiously to apologize.
"Shh!" Placing one finger on his lips, he was mad.
"I'll leave." her sulking posture closed the tent and went onto the next.
The entire day had been a repeat of her failing. The place wasn't set up to entertain guest, all the performers were busily doing their own things. It had ranged greatly from one another. The sight of two people inhibiting in lower one body, one sick and the other one caring for it or magical beast lazing around. Every employer were slacking around.
"I'm sorry, our master would be happy to greet any future audiences but he has an important meeting with royalty so he left ahead."
"It's fine" I was already satisfied with the strange displays.
"Yeah, he's trying to seal a deal so we could perform in the upcoming festival at that one popular town, I think it was called Goldview? Yeah Goldview!"
"He seems like an amazing person."
"Yes he is! You'll know when you see him, he's such a charming man… with his purple hair and yellow eyes. Oh and his handsome face. Heh heh heh."
She had begun drooling and drowned in her lustful thoughts. Her face no longer resembled that friendly face from before. I didn't want to interrupt her happy state.
"You said Goldview, we're headed that way. How far is it from here." Kaiser spoke not caring about interrupting her perverted thoughts.
Wiping her drool from her mouth, her friendly face had returned.
"That's more than a few days away, maybe even a week. Before you get there, you'll reach the town… uh I think it was called Ironview. Yeah! You'll reach there in a day or two. Just head down this road". She pointed the direction.
"We've seen enough boy, let's get going."
"Wait!"
She got had got in our way to stop us and then bowed.
"I'm really sorry you couldn't see a glorious performance. It would break my master's heart. Please take these tickets."
Grabbing tickets from her breast pocket, she presented it to us while still bowed.
"Today wasn't good but I swear, come to our show in Goldview. It's three days long and It'll be one the most amazing sight you'll see!"
"..." Kaiser looked at me awaiting for my reply.
"No. I can't take these."
"Wah?" She dumbfoundedly looked up while still bowing.
"I really did enjoy it today. But I have something important I need to do. Sorry."
Standing back up she smiled and nodded understandingly, I wasn't expecting for her to take it this easy. I really did want to see the performance at it's finest and I don't doubt her words but I really did have things I needed to do. Making it to town, I'll have to hurry since Kaiser's countdown would begin, I didn't have time to be hanging out in town for a long period of time.
"Yeah! If you do change your mind, just tell them you're a friend of mine. My name's Yulia."
"Mark."
I stuck my hand out and she returned my handshake and then looked at Kaiser.
"..."
"Your name?"
"Doesn't matter."
"Huh. Uh?"
"Let's get going boy."
"Ah okay. Bye Yulia."
"Y-yeah bye you two"
I was kind of embarrassed by Kaiser's display. I hope this kind lady didn't take it harshly. Her face was
still trying to recover from what just happened.
Walking away from the crowd of performers, I would have to say I had a good day today.
