Bab 28: Delicate Plan

The distant sound of a whistle woke me up from my dreams. I looked at the starry sky up above me and woke up with a jolt.

'Shit! I slept for too long.' I cursed at myself and started folding the thin blanket I was sleeping on.

In the afternoon, after Rahul had a stern talk with me, I had been in a strange state of mind. Thus I had come to the top of this building and slept.

But neither Rahul nor Neha knew that I was here, so they obviously could not come and wake me up. Thus I had slept till now.

'Haa! They must be worried about me.' I thought but then I heard that whistle sound once again and my thought stopped at once.

This time the whistle came from a different direction.

'Why the hell are people blowing whistles at night.' I switched on my Night Vision and zoomed in to find the culprit.

In the eastern end of the town, there was a man who standing on top of a building. He had a whistle in his hands and was currently looking at big black board place beside him.

'What's is doing?' I thought but before long, I saw a dot of light appear three time simultaneously in the black board.

The man looked at the lights and then turned around to blow the whistle. This time, the sound was of a much higher intensity and I could hear some faint movements on the streets.

I looked down for a moment and was shocked at the sight in front of me.

The horde of Abnormals below me were moving at a slow pace toward the whistle sound. Just that after a few seconds, when they still couldn't find the source, they stopped.

After a while, the excitement in the abnormals died down as well.

Just at that moment, another whistle sound came from the northern end part of the town.

I looked in direction with my Night Vision ability and realized that a man was standing there with a whistle in his hand. And there was a black board beside him as well. But…

'That man… Why does he look so familiar.' I thought then I looked at the abnormals below me move toward his direction for a few seconds before coming to a stop once again.

Looking at the movements made by these Abnormals, an absurd idea came to my mind.

'Aren't those guys luring this group of Abnormals.'

This thought was really absurd as I had never seen anyone lure out such a large group of abnormals.

The reason was simple.

Although Abnormals were fools, when in a group, they became dangerous fools.

If you try to lure out such a bit group of abnormals then if even one of them got anxious and started shrieking, it'll awaken the whole abnormal horde.

After awakening, the horde will go in a state of alertness and mindlessly attack whatever catches their attention.

If that happens, then forget about luring the abnormals, even saving your life might turn out to be difficult. Even a three storey building won't be enough to save their lives then.

So luring out such a large group was a very delicate task. It would require a high amount of knowledge regarding abnormals and a ton of experience.

And I can only think of one person who was capable of doing such a thing.

I looked at the tallest building in middle of the town and just as I had expected.

I could see Rahul standing there calmly, as he observed the movement of the abnormals.

There was not even a trace of worry in his face as he saw the thousand abnormals down below.

There was some sort of tool in his which he then used to point a laser beam at the blackboards of the people waiting in different parts of the town.

This time he was pointed the laser in the western direction and I looked in direction as well but…

'Isn't that Neha.' It was indeed Neha and she was currently standing with a whistle and a large blackboard as well.

After she got the signal from Rahul, she blew the whistle.

The Abnormals down on the streets were a bit curious and went a bit forward but when the did not find anything, they stopped and went around imitating human actions.

This continued on a long time and I watched as the abnormals slowly started spreading in the streets in different parts of the town.

I looked at the fields outside of the town and realized the the abnormals there had not moved even a bit.

'The sound of the whistles was only loud enough to reach the end of the town.' I realized this fact and marvelled how Big bro found these whistles.

'Did he bought them for the Black Watch?' I asked Lily.

'No. There is no such things in the Black Watch.' Lily replied. Though her voice was a bit gloomy.

'It seems like she's distressed about the fact that the Black Watch does not have something of such great value.' I thought.

'What did you say?'

'Nothing.' I quickly said.

But after some thinking, I understood that it was not the whistles that were valuable.

No other person could have done the same thing even if he had the same whistles and the same opportunity.

'It seems like your brother wants to divide the thousand or so abnormals in the whole town.' Lily.

'Yes.' I said 'Although this number does indeed sound quite big, once they spread throughout the whole town, they'll be divided. Awakening the horde is the only thing that keeps us from attacking the abnormals. But if they're divided, then it'll be far easier for us to kill them a few at a time without the fear of awakening the horde.'

'Indeed. This is a good strategy.' Lily said. 'But it is very time consuming as well. Not to mention that a single mistake will destroy the whole plan.'

'Yeah. I understand that much as well.' I said and looked at the abnormals down below. They were moving at a slow pace once in a while, then stopping for a minute or so, until all their excitement died down. Then they walked a bit more in another direction before stopping for a minute or so.

'This is a very time consuming process.' Lily said. 'I don't think you'll see any significant result till midnight.'

'Yes. I understand that much as well.' I said with a fierce look in my eyes. 'But once we've divided them thoroughly, we would not face many problems in killing them and collecting their crystals.'

'Although we would need to be cautious, I can smell a large profit coming our way after this plan is complete.' I thought and wore my bag on the back.

'And where are you going?' Lily asked.

'To big bro of course. He might have a mission for me.' I then jumped from building to building and finally reached the tall building Rahul was standing on.

When I climbed to the top, he was still observing the abnormals down on the streets with his back facing toward me.

But I knew that he was aware of his presence. Otherwise he would never leave his back open like this to any other intruder.

"So you know that you to have come back as well." Rahul feigned anger as he glanced at me for a moment.

After that, he turned to give signals to the person standing on the northern end.

I looked at that person once again and suddenly remembered who he was.

'Wait! Isn't that Raka?' I thought 'What the hell is he doing here?'

'Isn't it simple.' Lily said 'He is following your brother's orders.'

'But… why would he do that?'

'Why don't you ask your brother yourself?' Lily said in a tone that implied that she had no interest in talking about this subject.

'Well… It's not really all that important.' I thought then went to stand beside Rahul.

"I slept a bit late." I said. 'It was not an excuse ah. Please don't think so.'

Rahul looked at me with a smile and then shook his head "Neha was worried about you."

"Is that so. Haaa." I sighed.

Rahul knew my abilities and would not worry about me but the same could not be said for Neha, who just came to know about the apocalypse this morning.

'Seems like you're the shitty elder brother now.' Lily giggled in my mind which irritated me a bit.

"Is there anything that I could do to help?" I asked.

After thinking for a while Rahul finally said "Not right now. But after we're done luring the abnormals, I'll need your help in dealing with the four 2nd tier abnormals in the town."

"Hmm… It should not be that difficult to eliminate them if both of us work together." I said.

"You're right. It won't be very difficult to eliminate them. But we need to do so in a swift manner so that their screams would not awake the horde." Rahul said. "I'll deal with the 1st tier abnormals surrounding them while you'll finish them quickly."

"Hmm…" I fell in silence as I thought about this matter.

'If I had to kill only one or two of them, then I could use the Agility Booster Skill. But if I have to kill four of them then I cannot use it as they're all in different parts of the town.'

"You'll be able to do it." Rahul said as he looked at my hesitating expression. "You have 4.0 points in Agility stat and 3.0 points in Perception stat. It should not be very difficult to deal with them since you'll also have the element of surprise."

"But… They're still 2nd tier abnormals." Although I was confident in killing one of them. Killing them without giving them a chance to make any noise was indeed difficult for me.

"So what if they are." Rahul said with a sneer "You're really looking down on yourself. Are you really going to be afraid of them your entire life just because you almost died at hands once."

"That is what cowards do. And you are no coward my little brother." Rahul said as he bumped his fist into my chest.

I felt a burning sensation in my chest when I heard his words.

'Yes. Just because they are 2nd tier abnormals doesn't mean that I need to be afraid of them. The only difference between them and 1st tier abnormals is that they're much faster and stronger than them. If you cut off their heads, then they'll die all the same.'

'If I've increased my stats why do I still need to fear them.'

"I'll do it." I said with a decisive tone.

"Very good." Rahul said "Since you don't have anything to do right now, you can go and keep an eye on the four 2nd tier abnormals. This luring session is going to take a lot of time."

"I understand. I'll take my leave now." I said and was just about to jump down I heard his voice once again.

"Ashok."

I turned around and looked at him with a puzzled expression. "Anything else?"

"No…" he hesitated for a moment before finally saying "The things that I said to you this afternoon…"

"They were my own ideologies. It was wrong of me to force my ideologies on you. If you want to follow them, then that's alright. But you don't…"

"Then you can choose your own way doing things. You'll still be my little brother and I'll still support you as much as I can." He said.

I looked at him for a long time before I finally said "I understand." Then I jumped down to the roof of the next building.

'It takes a lot of courage for a man to admit that he's wrong you know.' Lily's voice rang in my mind as I was jumping from building to building. 'Are you sure you only want to say those two words to him.'

'What else can I say?' I asked.

'Well… nothing. Let's not talk about this topic anyone. Oh look there's one of the 2nd tier abnormal.'

—————

Just as Rahul had said, it took a few more hours to finally complete the task.

By the end of it, the thousand abnormals had spread throughout the whole town in groups of 10-50.

'What is the time right now?' I asked.

'About 3 am.' Lily replied.

'Hmm… It definitely took a lot of time and patience to lure in such a bit group of abnormals. But now that they're spread throughout the whole town, we'll be able to hunt them one by one.' I thought in excitement.

The thousand abnormals didn't look all that terrifying anymore. In fact, their appearance in my eyes was already changing to that of walking crystals.

I licked my lips in anticipation for that slaughter that was about to follow. But before that, there was something else that me and big bro had to do.

And that is, to eliminate all the variables.

And by variables, I meant 2nd tier abnormals.

Just because the abnormals were scattered didn't meant that I could just go down and take their crystals.

If we want to kill all of them, then we would need to isolate them even further and then kill them as silently as possible.

Just a single shriek from an abnormal can destroy all of the hard work that Rahul and the whistlers had done so far.

Thus, we had to lure those abnormals a few at a time and then kill them one by one.

This was definitely a time consuming task. But I we do it right, then we would be able to take a lot of crystals by the end of it.

In fact, if nothing went wrong, then we might even be able to kill all thousand of them.

Such a thought was indeed very simulating, but we had to eliminate the 2nd tier abnormals before we can start this plan.

A 2nd tier abnormals had better eyesight and hearing ability than a 1st tier abnormal.

If we make a mistake and lure a 2nd tier abnormal by mistake then that would be a disaster.

Thus, we have to wipe them out before we can start clearing up the 1st tier abnormals.

'First one is near the barber shop in the third street.

Second one is in front of the bank.

Third one is behind Aunt Shela's house.

Fourth one is somewhere at the northern part of the town. I don't know it's exact location. But it should not be that difficult to find.' I thought and started to jump toward the tallest house in the middle section of the town.

"Did you keep an eye on them?" Rahul asked when I climbed to the roof.

"Yes. The fourth is somewhere at the northern part of the town. But I know the exact location of the other three."

"Hmm… Go and find the location of the forth one. We'll start after that." Rahul said.

"Alright." I said and went on an extensive search for the fourth 2nd tier abnormal.

It took some time to find it. That bugger was hiding behind a large tree in the park after all.

When I found it, it was resting beside the tree in a leisurely manner. As if I was in some kind of vacation.

I almost vomited blood when I saw this.

'Bastard, I am searching for you all over the place, and you're resting here in such a comfortable way. See if I don't chop you to death by the end of the night.'

That abnormal looked like an old guy even after it had evolved. That old man probably loved to rest beside trees when he was a human.

That would explain it's irritating behaviour.

After I found it's location, I immediately went back to report it to Rahul. He nodded and then, we both simultaneously jumped in the direction of the closest 2nd tier abnormal.

I'm trying really hard to create obstacles for the MC so that he won't become too OP.

If he's able to defeat hundreds of Abnormals easily, then he would become too OP which would make the story a bit boring.
