Bab 86: Cornering

"Johan," said JD. "Boy get up! I didn't raise a quitter! This fight isn't over. You trained so hard for it."

Johan found himself floating in space.

"Where am I?," said Johan.

"You are unconscious you idiot!," yelled Hanuman.

Johan turned to see his father and Hanuman hovering behind him.

"Watch your mouth!," growled JD. "Thats my boy!"

"He trained with me," sneered Hanuman. "Trained for months and yet he is still having trouble with a fighter of this caliber!? I could beat chumps like this even at my weakest point. You failed as a father if this is the best effort he is capable of. Shut up if you don't want him to get killed! Let me get his head on straight!"

Johans father looked like he was going to say something but went quiet.

"this Lu Lu guy has been training all his life," said Johan. "My mana abilities have been nullified! He is faster and stronger than me!"

"Ridiculous," said Hanuman. "Have you forgotten the combos you practiced thousands of times!? So much that you can maintain speed power and execution of them without thinking!?"

"But I cant connect any Of my strikes!," said Johan.

"The combinations moves in the sequence and at angles that were designed to distract and blind your opponents. They allow you to maneuver your opponents into situations where it puts you at an advantage and then at a disadvantage. They factor in you missing strikes and getting hit back. They included side steps in strategic directions, explosiveness in certain moves, feints, dodging for the most likely counter strikes and much more. They weren't just patterns I randomly taught you. They were thought out patterns. You don't have to be stronger or even complete the combination moves to get usefulness from using it. It's like a chess move planned out in advance to target repeatedly your opponents weak points or even power through them ... Dempsey had the Dempsey roll. Nong-O a famous Muay Thai fighter would often utilize misleading feints in order to get his attacks through."

"So what do you suggest I use against this guy?," asked Johan.

"You want me to fight this for you?," sneered Hanuman. "Are you that weak willed! Are you going to rely on strength outside your own to win like you did against Anna? You represent me as my student! Again, you are proving to be a disappointment. If anyone were to find out I trained someone of your caliber I would be the laughing stock of the heavens."

"You couldn't win if you were in my situation," said Johan. "You're all talk! Your just saying all that to make yourself feel better than me!"

"From speed and snap comes power!," sneered Hanuman. "From technique comes power! From muscle memory comes power! From combos come power! Listen well!"

"Snap?," asked Johan. "But I can't even reach him!"

"He is clearly reacting to your attacks," said Hanuman. "Back him up into a corner, and then deliver a blow using your entire kinetic chain. Snap the strike, from your feet to your hips and torso to your shoulder, deliver punches to his diaphragm and face using the momentum from your twists. Use your feints and attacks to back him close to a ring corner ... not the ropes, but the corner. The rail will prevent him from moving back or using ropes to absorb the damage, the ropes will restrict him from moving laterally and you'll prevent him from moving forward. Then when he tries to move out of the range of your blow the corner rail will stop him and you can land a full bodied strike. In striking all it takes is one lucky hit to knock down a mana less opponent. Furthermore, Your muscle power, even though not aided by mana isn't to be trifled with even if you only trained two years, you trained very hard continuously. If you connect, you will hurt him. If the strike surprises him it'll knock him out. It's the strikes you don't see coming that tend to result in knockouts. Once you connect a strike, use your knees, head, elbows. Don't assume one strike will be enough. Take advantage of him being stunned. If he is in the corner, and you attack fast enough with confidence, you should be able to win this."

"What if that doesn't work?," said Johan.

"You practiced them so much it should come instinctively to you!," said Hanuman. "If it doesn't work, adapt! Controlling your opponents movements to back them up into a corner where they can't move is called cornering and works only in rings. The Lu Lu, may be fighters, but the ring isn't somewhere they learn how to fight!"

Hanuman started to become blurry as did Johan's father.

"Hey," said Johan. "What's going on?"

"The guardian spirit's existence is possible because of mana laws," said Hanuman. "Although powerful, it cannot exist for long in the Lu Lu's presence. If you don't end this fight soon, you'll loose me and your father forever."

Johan's eyes widened in surprise.

Johan found himself lying on his back, staring up at the stadium sky with Wei Lu standing over him.

"3 ... 2 ...," yelled the announcer.

Johan jumped to his feet.

With Hanuman's last words he had managed to triple the urgency of the situation and Johan winning.

"Fight!," yelled the announcer.

"Do you need time to recover?," asked Wei Lu. "Take a moment."

Johan without warning sprung forwArd taking Wei Lu by surprise.

Boom!

Johans shoulder collided with Wei Lu's chest making him stumble back surprised.

Wei Lu off balance, raised his guard expecting Johan to throw another strike and Johan shot forward feinting a knee strike. Johan instead grabbed Wei Lu's shoulder and pushed him aggressively towards the ring corner.

Wei Lu stumbled still off balance.

"Whooo!," screamed the crowd excitedly at Johan's sudden display of aggression and the fact that finally he seemed to successfully land an attack.

"Kill that filthy Lu Lu!," screamed someone in the crowd.

Wei Lu was close to the corner of the ring.

"Rwaarrrrrr!," roared Johan leaping forward again quickly throwing an overhand right straight full power at the stumbling Wei Lu.

Wei Lu's back hit the ring guard as he tried to sway back to avoid Johan's oncoming strike.

An expression of confusion crossed Wei Lu's face as he couldn't comprehend what was happening.

It was Johan best opportunity of the entire fight, and he wasn't planning on screwing it up.

[Wei Lu was going to go down with this strike ... whether he knew it or not,] thought Johan.

Johan's joints strained and creaked as he generated torque from his feet to his calves to his knees to his hips snapping his waist to add power to his punch. The wind swooshed by Johan's body as his hair flew back.

This was truly a punch Johan fully committed to with all his power and weight behind it.
