Bab 25: That's Why We Can't Become Allies

Jaime was looking back at Linri to see if he was telling the truth. She still did not understand why he told him all this but she could not say that he was lying. She probably would not believe this story if he were to tell it from the start but it was not because of the reason Linri said. It was because she believed there had to be something more.

At least now she could understand a little about why he said they could not be allies and she acted like the guy from his second story. She was genuinely sorry for acting like that but she still could not understand what he meant by can'y becoming allies.

"Wait! If it was something this simple couldn't you have just said I dont like liars and get on with it?"

"Well... I could but It wouldn't be as effective would it? Also it was a little bit satisfying to see you think so hard. I am somewhat of a petty person so yeah if it's harmless it couldn't hurt to get some revenge does it?" said Linri and continued

"Also that was not the whole reason that I made the whole speech. Doesn't Jaime have 130 IQ why don't you put your brain to work and think about it?" said Linri playfully.

"140!" Jaime said furiously. She came to apologize but she ended up getting angry at him again. Jaime swore to god that this guy had some special talent in pushing people's buttons. Still no matter how upset she was with Linri she did what he told her and started to think about the whole conversation.

When she was finished she noticed some things and couldn't help but asking about them.

"Now that you said it. Didn't you say that everything you said before was a lie? Does that mean you think you are normal?"

"Haha, now we are talking! The answer to your question is yes. Actually my thought process is nothing more than parlour tricks. They were just some things my father and some of his friends thought me and any person could think like that. Think of it as a math equation. Everything I did followed some simple ground rules and that's about it. I am not as weird or special as you thought I am and I am definitely not crazy." said Linri confidently.

Still Jaime could not help but think that he was as quirky as she thought he was.

"Then can you teach me? Otherwise I will think that you are crazy."

"I can teach you but why should I? Didn't I tell you? We are not allies so we don't have any obligations to each others. We are still two strangers in the same situation and that's about it."

When he said like that Jaime felt a little sad. She understood where he was coming from but that didn't make it any less hurtful.

"You keep saying allies, what's with that?" Jaime finally asked the question that was plaguing her mind.

"Exactly what it sounds like. Don't tell me you do not know the definition of the word 'ally'.... Fine I am not going to beat around the bush this time. Despite how amusing this conversation is I'm still have things to do.

You see we were brought here forcefully. That means if you reach a certain level of power in this world you can travel between dimensions. If we want to go back home we have to get stronger. Right now the fastest way to go back for us is to go to Autumnfall and go thorough life and death struggles. But it will not be as dangerous for us since we know a little about the future. If everything follows the RP that is. Still that does not mean we are gods. Even if you know a bullet is coming it would not matter if you can not dodge it. The most easy way to get stronger is to find trusted allies, in other words people you can trust your back, no trust your life with. That way even though the school would be dangerous we would still have a lee way. Being in an alliance with people who came here like us would be the easiest since you do not need to explain why you know certain things. That's why I considered you to be my ally. Someone who can trust my life with. Not any more though and from your expression I can see that you wanna know why. Am I right?"

Jaime nodded her head.

"It's because of your actions today. Before you say that it was just a small thing let me explain why. You see humans are social animals and we tend to flock together in times of danger. Just like you and I. When we first descended we felt that we were in danger so we sought others like us. That's why I went to find you that day and that's also the reason you came to the home of a guy you barely even know and stated to leave with him. Isn't that quite weird? What if I was a rapist and did something to you at night? But none of these doubts were in your mind right? I was like a lifeboat you found when you were about to drown. So you didn't even question if there were pirates inside it. That is dandy and fine after all as I said this is human instinct. It is normal to act that way.

But as humans we have another trait. As soon as we are out of danger we stop the herd mentality and personal benefits. If what the group is doing benefits us we go along with it but the moment a conflict of interest happens we bare our fangs. Just like what you did today. Isn't it? I wanted to recruit Brie but you did not want that and immediately bared your fangs without even asking me why I wanted to recruit her. You immediately called me a liar. I do not know if you did it consciously but you tried to paint a picture of a bad guy to Brie with subtle suggestions. That way if I were to seek her alone she would be distrustful of me. If it was intentional that would be scary since that would mean you are manipulative and I might not even notice if I am being manipulated without paying attention to it.

But at least I know that you are not that kinda person. It is my instinct and animal instincts are always right. Right now I can be considered part animal so I have trust in my instincts. Still you calling me a liar was within my acceptability range so that in itself wouldn't be a problem. At most I would be a little angry at you and that would be the end of it. What you did afterwards was the thing that completely changed my opinion about you and that's why I said we can't be allies.

If you do not know let me tell you what it was. You called me over to explain what happened to Brie. You wanted me to do what you did not want to do yourself. Meaning I am just a tool to you in your eyes. In other words I am like a broken old shelter you found during a rain storm. In the storm you praise me and thankful that you were able to find such a nice shelter but the moment storm is over the only thing you can think of is how the shelter is so old and why it even exists in the first place.

So tell me Alina. How can you trust your life to a person who only sees you as a tool? Being an ally means helping each other through life and death. This kind of person would leave the moment things become inconvenient for them and they might even leave you in a dangerous situation just because they do not want to risk their lives. That's why we can't become allies. Before you tell me how could you be sure if I would risk my life for you think about our meeting. Just so you could have a place to stay without any problems I let myself beaten half to death. So tell me would I risk my life for you?"
