Bab 83: Business Plan
"So what is this extra request you are talking about?" Alice asked in an interested voice. She continued "Of course if it is in my powers I am sure that I will help you on this one." Alice could see the determination in the eyes of Loraine. Whatever this request is, she was fully prepared to go for it.
Not even thinking about it for a second, Loraine spoke up, "I want to start a business here in Valencia."
Hearing those words, James was not sure if he heard it correctly. Looking at Loraine, James asked, "What are you talking about dear?" However the moment Loraine turned her head, James saw the determination in the eyes of Loraine. It was the same one that she had when they fled the capital together.
Loraine repeated what she said as she was looking back over to Alice, "I want to start a business here in Valencia and I require you to help me find a proper store for it."
Interested by the development Alice replied, "I have always been a supporter to have more women in the trading world. I will definitely help you out. However, given how determined you are… what kind of business are you thinking of opening?"
This time Loraine was silent for a moment. Somehow she did not expect to come this far with her proposal. After thinking for a while she continued the conversation, "I noticed that Valencia is a city where people like to go out. Especially couples. Therefore I want to aim to open up a pastry store here. I have noticed that something like that is not available here in Valencia. Thus I wanted to open one here."
Loraine did not know how much she could trust Alice, so she left the whole point about having encountered a store like that in the Capital.
Hearing all this, Alice thought for a moment. With every second that passed, her smile became bigger and bigger. Having engulfed her whole face, she finally replied to what Loraine said, "I like it! I like all of it! You are correct, we do not have something like that yet in Valencia. Now you mentioned it, I remembered hearing from a friend, who trades between the Capital and Valencia, that there is a store like that one over at the Capital. We should also open one here!"
"We?" Loraine asked surprised.
"Yes, We. I will fully support this endeavor and even become one of the investors. I want to see you succeed. Moreover with the influence my store has, I am sure that we spread the word faster about this pastry store."
The eyes of Loraine started to shine as Alice was speaking. Initially thinking that this idea was childish and stupid, she now had full confidence that this would work out.
At that moment James spoke up again, "Dear… Don't be angry, but do you actually know how to cook and make those things you are talking about… what was it, pastries?"
Hearing those words, Loraine got annoyed as she twitched her eye a bit. Why must James ruin such a good moment for her. Turning her head around annoyed she replied, "Not yet. But I will definitely learn it."
Hearing this, Alice spoke up, "Don't worry about that. We can try and hire someone that takes that part. In the mean time you can also learn from her."
Hearing this positive reply from Alice, Loraine lost her irritation as she turned around to face her. She spoke up again, "Well that is the extra request I got. I want a store that is close to the city center where most of the cities attractions are. And I want to live close by to the store. Thus if there is a nice store that is vacant in the vicinity, I want to also get the house that is in the vicinity."
James was not sure about the whole idea of letting Loraine run a store together with Alice, however at the moment he was overpowered by the two and had no say in the conversation. The only thing that James could do at the moment was agree with the statement that Loraine had. If she really wants to open up a business in Valencia, it should be close to the place where they are going to live.
Alice replied, "I will immediately look and ask around. It is rather late today, so I will send word to you tomorrow. Where are you guys staying?"
Loraine did not give James the opportunity to reply as she said, "We are currently staying at The Harvesting Bed inn. Actually the owner there recommended us to you."
Hearing that, Alice burst into laughter, "Ah yes, I should pay Margret a visit soon anyway. She has been nagging at me for not visiting her for some time. I will be there tomorrow, you should also join us when I meet Margret, and I bet that she would be delighted about the idea and also help us out. She might even join us. Anyway, that is all for tomorrow, for now, have a good night!"
James got scared thinking about the idea what the combination of the three could achieve. He pitied their competitors they might have.
After saying their goodbyes, the couple turned around and left the store, heading back to the inn.
