Bab 78: City of Valencia
The second half of the journey took even longer. As they discovered that they people were looking for them, the couple had to be extra cautious when moving forward. There were several instances where they barely avoided their pursuers.
It took another two weeks of travel before they finally started to see multiple rivers flow. This was a good sign. They were finally close to their destination. Another good news they had was that the last time they heard news about their pursuers was a few days back. Thinking about this, James concluded that they had probably given up on the search for the time being.
"Look at that!" Loraine said excited. She pointed into the horizon. There were hundreds of people who were working on the fields. This was the first time they saw so many people after leaving The King's City. No wonder Valencia was called The City of Harvest. There were so many fields and so many people working on them.
Taking a closer look at a distant, the road was also filled with tens of various caravans. Many traders preferred working in Valencia as it was a major trading hub.
Looking at Loraine, James saw the excitement of her face. He understood her situation, as he was in the same situation at the moment. He was also excited to finally arrive at their destination. Especially after spending weeks on the road.
Approaching the gate to the city, they were stopped by a guard. After giving some basic information and mentioning that they were thinking of settling in, in Valencia, the guard let them enter.
Looking over at the streets, James saw thousands of people walking on the streets. Even the streets of The King's City would not be this populated. This is definitely a bustling place.
The first stop for them was to go to an inn where they could spend some time at. From there they could finally decide what to do and where to move out to.
Asking around a bit, the finally discovered that "The Harvesting Bed" is one of the better options they have. It was recommended by various locals. Arriving at the location, they saw that the inn is definitely in the higher standards. Apparently it is one of the touristic attraction points in the city. Moreover it is a place that many traders preferred to say at when coming to the city.
Entering the inn they were greeted by a fancy dressed female with smiles all over her face. Looking over at the couple, she said with a joyous voice "Welcome! Welcome, to The Harvesting Bed. How can I help this lovely couple?"
Taken aback by the situation, James replied, "Well... uhm… we were thinking to spend some time here. We were wondering if you have a room for two left… Uhm… Oh yes, and the price for it."
Looking at the book in front of her, she went through a few pages before finally stopping at one, "Yes, yes of course we do. I see that one of the rooms emptied out this morning. As for the price… well it will cost you 2 gold each night. If you are thinking to stay longer than a week and also pay half of it in front, I am willing to lower the price to 1.5gold… so what do you think." Not giving James any time to think, the woman started on pouring various information at James.
Taken back by this overwhelming drive of doing business, James was at a loss. Before he could even reply he heard Loraine take the initiative. "That would be great. We like to reserve the room for the coming week. Hopefully in that time we can find a proper location to settle in at."
"Oh, the couple wants to reside in Valencia. Well, I welcome you into our lovely city." The woman said with a smile. Before Loraine could accept the welcoming she cut her short and said, "That will be 5 gold for the room. Because I like you two and want to give you a welcome gift, I lowered the price to 10 gold flat."
Not sure where James was, he just instinctually took out the gold and put in onto the counter. Taking the gold, the woman passed a key into the hand of James and said, "Your room, as stated on the key, is 304. That is at the third floor. Have a nice stay."
Being lost, James felt that his arm got pulled away. Looking over, he saw Loraine, who was not affected by this all pulling him towards the stairs.
They finally made it to the City of Valencia. What their next move is, they would find out in the morning.
