It took close to a month before the convoy arrived at the central area of the kingdom. First they passed The Silver City. Expecting that Christopher and Warren would leave, James was surprised to see that they were still part of the convoy. Apparently to receive their rewards, the soldiers first had to return to the King's City and attend a small ceremony.
This ceremony was also meant to booster the popularity of the royal family as well as increases the morale of the populace. This ceremony would also help with boosting the renown of the knights that attended the expedition. As there was a small banquette after the ceremony, many nobles would attend this feast. This would also help with smaller knights and nobles, such as James to build stronger relationships.
Thinking about it, it was a rare occasion for James to actually be able to attend a feast of that scale. His family status was not as high to attend a royal banquette. He would be one of the first in his family line that would actually be able to attend such a feast.
As the convoy was getting closer to the city, the immense walls were getting visible across the horizon. Even though James was living in The King's City, he would time and time again be amazed by the immense walls that towered the city. Those walls were impregnable. Even if the Kingdom of Graycastle would be cornered to The King's City, the walls would never fall.
Praises and surprises could be heard from others in the convoy. Looking from the outside, the wall looks even more prestigious.
Getting closer to the city, James could hear bells ringing from within the city. It was clear that they were waiting for them to arrive. As the convoy entered the city, cheers started to sound from the streets. Looking ahead, James saw thousands of people cheering on the incoming soldiers.
Flowers and pedals were thrown at the convoy, as they were moving towards the castle district. The streets were so bustling that some knights started to form a perimeter for the convoy to move in.
This was the first time that James was at this side of a convoy that was moving through the city. He had seen convoys pass through the city and even welcomed them, similar to the citizens. No matter how he thought about it, he could still not believe that he actually was welcomed in such a fashion.
As the convoy made their way to the Castle District, they were welcomed by several high ranking ministers. It was clear that this was a grand spectacle. The words of Prince Gerald saying that the soldiers here brought honor to the kingdom were not false. Especially given the situation in which they were welcomed.
Walking into the castle, the group made their way to the throne room. The room was even bigger than James could even imagine. Looking around, James saw that every major family within The King's City was present.
At the head of the room, the king was seated at the throne with the rest of the royal family next to him. James felt his heart move. This was the first time for him to see the king and the royal family.
No matter what happened, this day could not get any worse.
