Bab 47: Saint’s District

Walking to the district that the citizen pointed towards, James saw even more of the city. The main colors of the buildings are mainly white. Having a little bit understanding about stones, James directly knew that these were made out of limestone.

Their family owned a small mine in the outskirts of The Silver City that his grandfather had bought. His hope was that there would either gold or silver in it. But unfortunately, that was not the case. Instead the mine was filled with various stones, including limestone.

Walking on, James noticed several churches in various sizes. The city sure makes it clear that religion plays a big part here. Ignoring most of the scenery, James focused on his goal, getting to the Saint's District.

It took James some time before he finally saw the statue of Saint Benedict. It was at least 10 feet tall. The statue overlooked the whole square in which it was placed. Looking around, James noticed that if it was not winter, that this square would actually be really beautiful, beneath the statue, there was a rather large fountain. Even some offerings were placed at the foot of the statue.

This clearly shows that people in this city take priority in praying and therefore don't mind the weather at all. Even now there were people on their knees in a bowing position. Holding their hands together they prayed for various things. "At least they are praying for the safety of the city." James thought.

Having taken notice of this, James did not stop as he continued to look around. Maybe there was a woods workshop or either a toys shop for the children that might have a wooden sword available. Looking around, James saw that most of the stores were actually closed.

Most likely the traders went to their homes in the winter and might return when the weather improves. However there were some stores that were still open. Taking a look around, James did not find a toys shop, or at least not one that was open.

Searching for a period of time, it was starting to get late in the noon. Almost giving up on searching for the day, James finally found a small shop that had some wooden articles in the display. Hurrying inside of the building, James noticed that the store was even smaller compared to the outside. A lot of the items were stuffed together to make room for the workshop table.

"Good day sir, how can I help you?" an old voice called out to James. Looking at the man, James saw a man in his mid to late 30s. He was currently working on a wooden stool.

"I am looking for a wooden sword. Do you have one of those? If not is it possible to make one? I will pay of course." James called out his request.

The man looked him over and said, "Well, I think that a wooden sword won't do you any good, steel is definitely more useful. However, if you require a wooden sword, and have the money to pay, I won't disagree in making one."

James was taken aback by the comment that the man made. However ignoring it, James nodded and handed him some money over.

Accepting the money, the man said, "Well, you can get pick up your sword tomorrow."

With that James left the store back into the cold streets of Hermes.
