"It's not possible!" Muttered Driti, taking his head in his hand, slowly rocking his body back and forth. "IT'S NOT POSSIBLE! That can't be! It must be a lie!" Madly screamed him with a demented look in his eyes before starting to brack down.
The goddess hadn't time to be stricken by the new that they looked with horror at the poor young breaking down in from of them.
"Driti, what happens, what is impossible." Gently asked Athena, trying to coax a response from the man starting to show worrying signs.
" He showed it to me! His backpack was full of cores and skins! Thousands of goblins core! Hundred of variants! Tens of hobgoblins! You understand, right? While we were lazily waiting, he was wiping down hordes!" Sobbed Driti, still rocking, seemingly entrapped in delirium.
Like the woman she was, Gaia immediatly called for someone to take him.
A team of four shortly appears, and lead Driti away, to hopefully calm down and recovers. Of the three left behind, Rehmer was the sole aware of more than that. Seeing his pensive face, Gaia attempted the same with her own member.
"Rehmer? Is there something else?" Asked her, somewhat fearfully had what he could tell them.
"This is even worst than I though. The child is a monster." Said him for himself, but still heard by the two. Looking at the fearful goddess, he sighed and told everything he knows. "It had been reported by Eina that he was responsible for the construction of a new gate for the settlement. It had taken three days. Add to that another three to clear the battlefield. If we count the time passed roaming the forest, Alex had been wiping out horde-sized group nearly every day for ten days at least.
That means thousands of goblins hidden in a Dungeon! The fact that he collected so many skins means that hobgoblins had been roaming around there for months, and we have not single thinking until now.
He is Not only powerful above measure but also knowledgeable. If that wasn't enough, from our report and his words, he seems to be the only know representant of his race here!"
~~~
Rehmer didn't need to spell it for them; both goddesses know precisely what it means. For gods, Alex was a jewel, a rarity, ever. While they had now little hope he would be part of the guild, they needed to make sure that he wouldn't join any other against them.
"We need to send someone to speak with him. They are also a few other points that need to be addressed. What do you think would be best, Rehmer."
While they could enforce their will, both know better than that, more some when therianthropes are implicated. From the report, Alex wasn't an exception to the character people known to possess.
"Yes, we need to send someone. Just to be sure, I would avoid sending any humans, just in case. A therianthrope isn't also a good idea; he may be not appreciated to face a stubborn race after what just happen."
"Would Eina work? She is the one with the most contact with him." Say, Gaia.
"Yes, it could be. If you allow me, I would like to accompany Eina. Seeing someone that high in the guild structure may mellow him, telling that the guild took position on this matter."
"and you don't trust another to not till the scale on the wrong side." Analyse Athena before nodding." Yes, that could be best."
Nodding, Gaia thanked him for his time and sent him ready himself for the travel he would make the following day.
~~~
"... And that the reason of our presence here, Alexander." Finished resuming Rehmer, not hiding anything of the meeting he had the night before with the two goddesses. As therianthrope himself, the chienthrope know that it was better, to be honest with the youngling from the start and try to mend the strain Liam had created between them.
Alex stays silent for a moment.
"Let start with Marron party, if you're alright with this." Intervein Eina, trying to change the conversation flow for the time being and let him some moment to think of it.
"Alright. As I said to Driti, even if I doubt he had any time to speak about it, I discover the man's remain along with his teammates. As you though, they were in the lowest part of a dungeon." Say Alex to the fellow inhuman.
Hearing the confirmation of at least one sprouting near here made him clenches his hands hard.
"The girls had been raped and impregnated for around ten days. I killed them and the babes they were carrying after clearing the dungeon."
"How?! I think you are aware, but until all..."
"Nests are clears; it can't be conquered, I know. Thankfully for me, the horde had made their place rather evident. The dungeon was powered through four spots. Two outposts, on the east and west, along with two nests, near the Dungeon."
"Nest, outpost?" Asked Eina, a little lost at the terms used by Alex. Shrugging, he explains.
"The place I found were different; the outpost had meagre numbers and nearly only pregnants female. Its nests, which grow their numbers through some sort of pods, similar to the one in the Dungeon."
Understanding what he was trying to say, Rehmer asked.
"How many cores did you retrieve from the different places?"
"One and Two for the outpost and five and seven, why?" Asked Alex, interested in any pieces of information they had on them.
"Those cores had different uses. For use, they serve to the craft of magically enchanted weapons. Form the Dungeon and another lesser place; it indicates the numbers of generation the place had seen. Between one and three, it forms a small pocket. Habitually, those are the Dungeon's furthest, serving as a post for the deeper incursion or first defence line. After that, larger pockets appear. Those are the 'working shop', post serving to the creation of the bulk force. Those place's cores are sets so that, should the Dungeon fall, they would turn into one. They had a higher concentration of magic, allowing them to survive even after cleared. If those cores aren't retrieved, they could transform into as many own dungeons as they are."
Alex could clearly imagine it if he hadn't taken the core. He would have left the possibility of two emerging Dungeon rather than a unique one.
"Thankfully for us, Mother Dungeons our unique existence. In the Dungeon, the wars against the other to expand further. If a Mother Dungeon were to conquer a floor, it would spread far, creating 'outpost', as you said, and 'nest'. Without an opponent, they would turn toward Orario, and it would be a disaster. That one of the reasons we rarely clear them. If too much are cleared, the other Mother Dungeons will use the freed space to expand rapidly. Useless we clear an entire ground under a few days; it would be counter-productive.
Even then, the Mother Dungeon are so old, only three are known."
~~~
Hearing the chienthrope, Alex had difficulty wrapping his mind at the idea.
"So, how does the dungeon work?" Asked him, completely lost.
"Yes." Chuckles him at the face Alex was making. "It can be quite confusing. Let me explain in another way, the Dungeon's made of different floors. In itself, he doesn't generate monsters. On those floors are Mother Dungeons. Using the place in those floors, they create pockets, 'outpost' and 'nest as you call them, claiming a specific territory within the floor when one found the location and enter a mother Dungeon; it's like entering a Dungeon in a Dungeon.
The Mother Dungeon creates its own space, like some pocket space, and creates floors in them.
On the first floor of Orario, the guild had records of three Mother Dungeon territories. Adventurer generally never enter the Mother Dungeon but fight in its territory, sometimes clearing outpost or nest to gather higher income. As you can imagine, even just those nest are enough to earn big if they don't die while clearing it.
To deal with a mother Dungeon, we would need first to clear the entire territory, then clear it under five days; after that, the Mother Dungeon would have spread enough power to create other nest and outpost.
Attacking a Mother Dungeon is really risky, as it would send the created horde within it, to the invader, as much to defend than reconquer territory."
~~~
Hearing the explanation, the Dungeon took once again another dimension in Alex mind.
'If those cores are the numbers of generations that existed since its creation, do you imagine the number of cores the Mother Dungeon would give?'
-Easily in the thousands, I think. For the guild to not send adventurers to clear them must be a security measure and economic one. Like the cores of monster, the Mother Dungeon cores must have a fixed value on the market. The stronger the monster, the stronger the use.
Wanting to know if CS was right, he asked Rehmer.
"Does the Mother cores had fixed values?"
"25.000 Valis. Generally, the nest produce so many goblins that they roam the territory, free land between them. Those are the ones. Adventurers fight. Clearing a nest or outpost is a gamble, as one would never know how old they are." Rehmer explains before stirring the conversation to the point he wanted. "Now that your questions are answered, it's time we speak about our position on the matter. From the lack of horses and personal items of those two, I assume you had kept them?" Asked him simply, on what Alex respond with a nod. "The guild would like to repurchase the horses. While they are us to start with, they are left in the care of the adventurers riding them and considerate as their possession. If you have no use of them, we are ready to repurchase them. We would also process your hides free of charge, and the guild has some business proposition to you." Say the chienthrope. All those points have been debated beforehand and were the minimum the guild was ready to offer as atonement.
'What do you think?'
-Seems far for me. While they need to save face, they aren't stingy. They could have forced you to give the horses back. The business proposition depends on the task and how much they are willing to pay. Responded CS, seeing the rather honest proposal.
"What type of business." Asked Alex, making both guilds employee smile a little wider, understanding the unsaid acceptance of both previous points.
"The outpost needs to be repaired. I think you have enough skills to put them back in shape from work on the door. Those outposts are mostly wooden structure with a layer of concrete applied on the surface. As you seem to have skill in carpentry, and you are nearby, I proposed to the guild higher up the possibility of hiring you. The Familias generally contacted for this type of work would ask for a large amount of money, so your position was considered.
On one side, we save money while also attempts to make up for you, and on the other hand, it gives you some income not related to hunting.
The details need to be hammered between us, but I'm allowed some leeway. As long as it isn't outside of my limits, a contract can be drawn between us today. As they are considered lost, the guild will refurbish them entirely, so anything you can take is yours."
This tidbit of information made Alex grin internally, knowing that they were a lot that he could salvage from them.
"Following the damage, I may have to tear them down and start from scratch."
"It had been taken on the principle that you would." Nods Rehmer. It would be easier to start on a new base rather than made occasional reparation. The cost would be higher at the start, but they would gain in the following years to come.
Here the second chap and the last for today. As promised, here are the stat of the ongoing vote.
1 Fairy tail: 8
2. Naruto: 5
3. DxD: 3
As you could see, Fairy tail is ahead for the moment. I also use this opportunity to tell you all that I have started to work on the second volume of TOT.
For this one, I send our MC back in one piece. I still don't know if I will send him to other worlds yet, as I found it difficult to see some of the characters in another world add to the situation that they would be already adult, so...
If you had recommendations, then feel free to share them. I will perhaps not use them, but who knows.
As I'm far from the end of the first volume of TOT, this story won't see the light on your screen for a long time, but once it does, I will surely have the entire work already completed, so it would ensure you to read an already completed work.
I only wrote it when I face a block for the first TOT or when I feel like it, so don't worry, it won't take precedence on TOT.
I think that all I wanted to share for now, so I wish you a good night and see you tomorrow for a new chap and updated vote!^^
