Bab 13: Gaining A Family
Lou Yi saw where I was looking and chuckled.
"Those were my grandfather's elite guards. Don't mind them, they are only playing around."
Elite guards?
I looked back again and saw them exchanging blows but not nothing really hit them. They were both evading the other's attacks. It's kind of amazing to watch…
We entered the hall where an older looking person sat on a chair at the end. There was another person with him, who was younger looking and was sitting on his right side. The two of them looked at us as we came in.
"Luo Yi greets grandfather, and father." [Luo Yi]
Should I greet them as well?
Because I have no idea what to do, I stood there at her side, staring at the two people who were doing the same.
Err…
"Mei Rong greets everyone."

The older man chuckled after seeing what I did.
"Your name is Mei Rong?"
"Yes!"
"It's a good name." [A man on the right, with handsome features.]
Well, yeah. Luo Yi gave it to me~
"Hmm… You look bigger than the last time I saw you." [The older man]
Lou Yi let out a nervous laugh and patted my head.
"You must be mistaken, grandfather. Mei Rong is already like this when she came here."
Luo Yi's grandfather looked thoughtful for a moment while scratching his chin. He was studying me with narrowed eyes. While he does that, I was innocently smiling at them, giving an aura of a helpless and naive child.
『 I could be an actress. 』

『 Oh, come on! I know I am doing great! 』
"Your eyes must be getting blurry these days, father." [Luo Yi's father]
"Hmph. I am still as strong as a bull!" [Grandfather]
Luo Yi and I sat down on the nearby chairs and joined them. Luo Yi's grandfather looks like in his 60s but still appears formidable. He has a stout build and warm brown eyes that show his wiseness beyond years. Her father appeared to be around his middle 40s but still has this handsome youthful look. He's probably taller than the older man if they both stood together, side by side.
"You only woke up, are you still sick?" [Lou Yi's father]
Sick? What did he mean by that?
I glanced at Luo Yi and saw her grimacing.
Ah, she might have forgotten to tell me about it. Maybe she told them a story as to why she brought me along with her.
"Luo Yi had taken care of me well so I am fine now~"
I got your back, Lou Yi!
But you should have told me what story you fed them with…
"Good grief, how could your parents sell you off just because of financial problems? They did not even care that you're sick! Preposterous!" [Grandfather]
I almost vomit out blood. S-sold me off? Lou Yi, what exactly did you tell them?
Lou Yi was sheepishly sipping her tea at the sides, looking anxious. I found it funny honestly. She was even shaking from nervousness…
She is not a good liar but she is surely a good storyteller.
"Hehe…"
I couldn't say anything but to let out a sort of laugh that sounds like I am in pain.
Lou Yi's father shakes his head.
"People like that shouldn't even be let to have their own family."
"You injured your head too, right? That is why you cannot remember anything." Grandfather sighed as he looked at me with pity. "Poor girl…"
Wow, Lou Yi. That is some tale right there…
Scratching my cheek, I painted my most naive expression I can muster.
"But I get to meet Luo Yi! And grandfather and father as well!"
To complete my awesome performance, I beamed at them. The two of them were surprised for a moment then warmly smiled at me. Luo Yi's father even reached out and patted my head. On the other hand, grandfather looked teary-eyed.
『 Hehehehe I feel great. Look how great of an actress I am, Nine. 』
"Such a good girl. How can they sell you off? Well, it's a good thing that they did because you're better off them." [Lou Yi's father]
"You can stay here with us. We will gladly adopt you as part of the Feng family, so Luo Yi will be your elder sister!" [Grandfather]
W-wahh--
Isn't this going too fast? How can someone adopt a person just like that?
Luo Yi, who was silent ever since earlier, spoke.
"That's a good idea, grandfather! I was going to ask you about that too!"
Wait, Luo Yi! Don't just jump in and agree! You know who I am-- I mean, what I am! Though your familiar might reassure you about my nature, you still should not decide without considering everything!
But…
"Then it is settled." [Luo Yi's father]
What is?!
"From now on, you are part of the Feng family. You are now Feng Mei Rong." [Grandfather]
I sat there feeling bewildered from the exchange. It happened so fast, like a whirlwind just passed by and swept me away.
"You can call me grandfather Liwei, or just grandfather. Whichever it is." [Liwei]
"My name is Feng Xiang, but father is fine." [Feng Xiang]
Luo Yi turns to me, smiling sweetly.
"Welcome to the family, second sister."
Family?
That word sounded so foreign to me who is never human in the first place. Do bugs have concepts such as that? Especially beetles? I don't think so…
So yeah, hearing about me being a part of their family, is weird. But it did not sound unpleasant, not felt like it was either. Hearing the word actually brought a bizarre emotion to me. I don't know what it was, but it felt good.
『 Family… It sounds... cool… 』

Heh, Nine~ You really know what to say, huh?
For the first time, a genuine smile appeared on my lips. I got up from my chair and bowed in front of them.
"Feng Mei Rong offers her thanks to grandfather, father, and sister Luo Yi."
