Bab 5: Zombies and People with Abilities
Jiang Zhi was the last to rise from his chair, so he saw Shen Yize faint and swiftly caught his body. Cold sweat was seeping down the man's back as if he had taken a shower, his face pale and slightly hot.
Jiang Zhi took Shen Yize to his room, laid him down, and took care of him. He patiently wiped away his sweat. In the evening, Shen Yize still didn't wake up and his body had a severe fever. It was so hot that it could cook a sunny-side-up egg.
The sunlight did not change, it became more like blood day by day. More and more people fell ill, and the chaos intensified.
Jiang Zhi stayed at home. He monitored the situation on the monitor, watched the news channels, and took care of unconscious Shen Yize. Fortunately, there was an IV that could help him.
As for Jiang Zhi, from his dreams, he knew he was just an ordinary person. That's why he tried hard to train his physical strength, agility and accuracy of attacks were also necessary.
Tired of having no one to talk to and not knowing what to do, Jiang Zhi turned on his laptop and connected to the internet to watch the news. From the surveillance room, he could see the blood-red sunlight slowly being covered by clouds. It caused daylight to look like afternoon.
The news was still the same as the old news. The anchor sat in the studio in a neat outfit and fooled everyone.
"The situation will be under control soon. Please don't go out, prepare food and drink, rescue teams will come to save everyone. The government hasn't given up yet."
Jiang Zhi sneered and switched to another news channel, and browsed every platform that was usually crowded.
News on the internet is amazing, even if the government wants to suppress it, it still spreads like crazy. The first human who became a zombie was resurrected yesterday, which made a huge stir, then followed by the news saying that many humans were turning into zombies. Especially in hospitals.
Jiang Zhi clicked on some videos related to zombies. The zombies moved stiffly and slowly, but their strength was almost equivalent to an adult human, plus their bodies couldn't feel pain and death.
The zombies feed on humans. Seeing that cruel and bloody scene, even though Jiang Zhi was mentally prepared, it still felt disgusting. He ran to the bathroom and vomited.
"Damn, it looks so real!" After saying that, Jiang Zhi patted his forehead. "This is indeed real. The world has changed."
He stabilized his emotions and familiarized himself by watching video after video over and over again until the nausea disappeared.
It was already 6 pm when he realized the time. Shutting down the computer and rushing downstairs. When he was still on the stairs, a large tremor occurred. Minor earthquakes were not unusual these few weeks, but today were strong enough to cause some objects to fall.
Luckily, their house was sturdy. Jiang Zhi trudged up the stairs, holding on to the wall as he made his way toward Shen Yize's room.
The shaking stopped just as Jiang Zhi opened the door. Shen Yize was awake and feeling dizzy from the earthquake. He turned toward the door as soon as he heard movement.
"You're awake." Jiang Zhi entered naturally and pushed away the surprise in his eyes. He approached Shen Yize and touched his forehead to check his temperature. "How are you feeling?"
Shen Yize stared at the ceiling with wide eyes. His voice trembled and was very small. "Hungry."
Jiang Zhi frowned as soon as he heard his words, but he quickly got up and went to the kitchen to make some rice porridge. Half an hour later, he came back with a bowl of warm porridge and a glass of warm mineral water, as well as some vitamin tablets.
Seeing Shen Yize sitting leaning against the headboard, Jiang Zhi placed his luggage on the bedside table.
He asked patiently, "Can you feed yourself?"
Shen Yize lifted his pale face and looked at Jiang Zhi, reaching out to show a trembling hand. That alone was enough to answer Jiang Zhi's question
So inevitably Jiang Zhi had to feed the man.
After finishing feeding, Jiang Zhi didn't leave the room. He picked up his laptop and turned it on.
The chaos outside was just like the chaos on the internet. Many people came out and raged against the slow government. Some were crying for help, and even the 'smart people' started to express their theories.
Scream after scream echoed, followed by a bunch of hungry zombies. Despite getting used to it, the expression on Jiang Zhi's face still looked ugly.
Shen Yize only heard the sound because Jiang Zhi was sitting on the sofa facing him with his back to the laptop screen, and he could see his expression. His voice was hoarse and slightly weak as he said, "What are you disgusted with?"
Jiang Zhi looked away and stared at Shen Yize, snorting coldly, replying, "The thought of there being zombies eating humans, that's disgusting."
"Yeah, get used to it." Shen Yize laid his body down.
He knew exactly how Jiang Zhi felt when he first encountered this dreamlike situation. If mental strength and psychological endurance were lacking, it would take a long time to get used to them. However, Jiang Zhi did not seem to have much resistance. It would only take a short time for the man to get used to it.
The news rolled over to the military side. There was an army general who posted a new video to calm the public and instantly became a trending topic.
{Don't panic. At the military base, there is someone who has awakened superpowers. He is General Mo, Mo Yuxuan. Don't give up, there is still hope for all of us!}
"This General Mo seems to be the first person to awaken superpowers. Well, at least the registered ones," Jiang Zhi told Shen Yize about this information. He found out 3 days ago, just when more and more people were falling ill, General Mo Yuxuan awakened superpowers.
There was no response from Shen Yize. Jiang Zhi thought it was because he still felt uncomfortable.
So Jiang Zhi went back to talking about Mo Yuxuan. "I heard that this general is also very strong and young. He's smart. This will be a suitable partner if we want to live safely."
Jiang Zhi told more things about Mo Yuxuan until Shen Yize's loud voice rang out.
"Strong what? Don't talk about that guy!"
Shen Yize's anger took Jiang Zhi by surprise. He stared at him for almost a second. "Why are you angry? This guy is ...."
Jiang Zhi's words stopped as soon as he saw Shen Yize's eyes filled with emotion. There was hatred, anger, disgust, and... disappointment.
Jiang Zhi had never seen Shen Yize with so many emotions. This both surprised and intrigued him.
Shen Yize looked away to avoid Jiang Zhi's gaze and closed his eyes.
Seeing that reaction, Jiang Zhi quickly switched to another video. However, his mind and focus were no longer occupied by the content of the video.
Shen Yize, on the other hand, couldn't get rid of the pieces of memory in his head. She knew clearly that Mo Yuxuan would be Jiang Zhi's strongest rival. Mo Yuxuan was not a good person. He was full of tricks and deceit. Despite his powerful abilities and smart brain, he was very cruel and heartless. Mo Yuxuan could throw anyone away and subjugate them, no matter how much that person contributed to him.
Shen Yize hated people like that!
After a few quiet moments, Shen Yize fell asleep. Jiang Zhi went out and searched for information about Mo Yuxuan.
Mo Yuxuan is a 32-year-old man who had reached the pinnacle of life because of his intelligence and strength. He is also handsome and comes from a prominent family.
There are still many things that Jiang Zhi finds out about Mo Yuxuan back in his elementary school days. Apart from the achievements made, nothing bad is reported.
"Shen Yize is so weird," he commented to himself. He propped up his chin and stared at Mo Yuxuan's photo.
The power suddenly went out, the earthquake shook again, but with a lower magnitude, only making people feel dizzy for a moment.
Sooner or later, the world would be shrouded in darkness, there would be no internet access, it would cut communication off, and a stone age-like life would emerge. The difference is, if the enemy of humans used to be wild animals, now it's zombies.
Suddenly someone tapped him on the shoulder. Jiang Zhi jumped in surprise and screamed.
Shen Yize hit Jiang Zhi on the head and said, "Shut up! You're such a coward!"
"Hey, you startled me. Can't you make a sound when you walk?" Jiang Zhi pulled out his chair and sat back down.
"I walk in front of you and you don't see?"
Jiang Zhi frowned, old hatred and new hatred accumulating. Angrily he said, "How could I see you? It's all dark over there and there's not a speck of light!"
"Ahh ...." Shen Yize sighed regretfully. He forgot that Jiang Zhi was currently just an ordinary human who needed more time to adapt to the darkness. While he, as a human with special abilities, had good eyesight in the dark.
"Then I'll turn on the diesel."
Shen Yize left without waiting for Jiang Zhi's reply. Jiang Zhi, however, followed behind with the help of a flashlight.
"Can you see clearly?" Jiang Zhi noticed that Shen Yize was walking very smoothly.
The man nodded and muttered low, saying nothing more. They entered the room at the back and turned on the diesel. The lights in the house burned as brightly as before.
For fear of being conspicuous in the midst of complete darkness, some of the lights are off. Leaving only the center light and the room where they would sleep.
Shen Yize recovered quickly. They lived like that for a few days. The small rain didn't stop for almost 2 days, which added to the gloomy feeling. However, Jiang Zhi still practiced diligently, no matter how cold the weather was.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" Jiang Zhi gulped down a bottle of mineral water and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Shen Yize was examining some weapons that could be used to kill zombies. He indifferently responded, "What?"
"That guy... Mo Yuxuan. Do you know him?"
Given Shen Yize's reaction then and his silence now, Jiang Zhi had a vague guess. It was just that he didn't know what the relationship between the two people was to the point that Shen Yize knew Mo Yuxuan's nature.
"You know him, so who is he?"
