Bab 137: Chapter 137: Pawns
On Sunday, Chen Wei and his team specifically discussed the allocation of company staff dormitories.
The apartments consisted of two bedrooms, with bunk beds allowing for four occupants.
Currently, there were only nineteen staff members at Tianrun, so accommodating them all wouldn't be a problem if they decided to move in.
However, some were not planning to move and preferred to stay where they were.
Only about a dozen were ready to make the move.
Chen Wei rented these ten apartments as a small benefit to the traders, providing convenience. It wasn't much, just equivalent to a few hundred yuan, which might be substantial for someone like Wang Qian but not for the traders.
Those who didn't move didn't feel any resentment, as the allocation was simple enough. With about ten people and ten apartments, there was more than enough space for everyone. Chen Wei, Zheng Junpeng, Wang Qian, Zhou Yi, and two others with girlfriends would each have their own apartment, while the rest would share.
For future recruits, both from the risk control and administrative departments, as well as any old traders they could lure over, arrangements would be made as needed. New traders might have to wait until they reached a certain level of proficiency. If there wasn't enough space in the dorms, they would rent more apartments.
After the rough allocation was settled, everyone got busy with moving.
Chen Wei didn't have much stuff and didn't need help, so he and Lian Yingying went back together, settled accounts with the landlord, and moved everything over in one trip.
Zhou Yi wanted Pan Zhiyao to help him move, but Pan Zhiyao immediately refused and went to help Wang Qian with two others instead.
This made Zhou Yi furious, cursing Pan Zhiyao for valuing romance over friendship.
While moving, Chen Wei mentioned the renovation of his hometown house to Lian Yingying. She immediately showed interest, suggesting they could go measure it with a designer, then come up with several design plans. Chen Wei calculated that with two months left until Chinese New Year, they needed to start the renovation soon, preferably the next weekend.
He said to Lian Yingying, "Let's do it next Sunday. You can contact a designer these days, and we'll go to my hometown next Sunday. Then, we'll quickly come up with a design plan and start the renovation as soon as possible. Otherwise, we won't finish before the New Year."
"No problem. I'll arrange for a construction team to come over directly. It won't take more than a month to finish," Lian Yingying said confidently.
After finishing up, it was already dinnertime.
Chen Wei took everyone out to eat casually. Since they were all tired from moving, and there was still cleaning up to do, they dispersed after dinner.
Lian Yingying stayed at Chen Wei's place for a while before leaving.
Chen Wei cleaned up quickly, took a shower, and lay down on the bed. He called his dad to let him know he'd be coming home next week.
His dad was happy and asked, "How's the house hunting going?"
"I've paid the deposit. But I haven't had time to handle the paperwork lately. I'll go pay the money next week if I have time," Chen Wei replied.
"Do you have enough money? If not, I can help you figure something out," his dad asked, still skeptical that his son could earn so much money in a month.
"I've got it covered. And Dad, about the orchard, maybe you should lease it out. You and Mom shouldn't have to work so hard anymore. After I buy the house, you two can come live in Yunzhou. Also, the old house needs renovation," Chen Wei suggested.
"Why renovate? It's not leaking or drafty. You shouldn't be showing off just because you've made some money. Buying a house isn't cheap. You need to save. Your mom and I can still manage. The orchard work isn't too tiring either. Don't worry about us, just take care of yourself," Chen Jianping reproached.
Chen Wei sighed helplessly, knowing his dad's thrifty nature. It was useless to say more now. He would do what he needed to do.
After hanging up, Xu Lin called again.
It was just a courtesy call to thank Chen Wei for helping her get the job at Huang Zhuokun's place.
Xu Lin was well aware that Huang Zhuokun didn't immediately agree, taking two days to give her an answer. During this time, he must have discussed it with Wang Wentao and Zhao Yang.
Wang Wentao might have been easy to persuade, but Zhao Yang's agreement was crucial. Chen Wei had definitely put in a good word for her.
Hearing that Xu Lin had finally been accepted, Chen Wei breathed a sigh of relief.
Even though he had done a lot of work, he couldn't be sure if Wang Wentao would accept Xu Lin in the end.
But even if Xu Lin did go, he couldn't let his guard down.
Chen Wei reminded Xu Lin not to reveal their relationship to Wang Wentao's team to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Xu Lin understood.
She was puzzled about how Chen Wei had persuaded Zhao Yang, but she didn't ask him directly. Sometimes, understanding came only after deeper consideration.
To Xu Lin, Wang Wentao, Luo Jin, and Chen Wei were all very calculating individuals.
But the difference was that Luo Jin was narrow-minded and ruthless, Wang Wentao was cunning and hypocritical, while Chen Wei, though calculating, valued loyalty and friendship.
Xu Lin regretted teaming up with Yuan Tong and Luo Jin in the beginning. If not for that, maybe she could have worked with Chen Wei by now.
But there was no going back.
At this stage, all she could do was remember this lesson.
Fortunately, Huang Zhuokun treated her well, and Wang Wentao was tolerable, at least on the surface. She was satisfied to continue working in this environment.
After hanging up, Chen Wei lay on the bed, lost in thought.
Regardless, he had successfully planted this pawn.
He didn't expect Xu Lin to play a significant role. A pawn was just a pawn. It might help turn the tide of the game at critical moments, but the player couldn't rely solely on a single pawn to determine victory or defeat.
Furthermore, while he planted pawns with Wang Wentao and Luo Jin, they might also have planted pawns with him.
