Yes Arnold is his front man
I don’t quite agree with you on this point because, while Aemon might not fight purely for vengeance, he would see a potential gain and be tempted to marry Rhaenyra, eliminating any potential competition in one move. (However, he has already refused Rhaenyra before for many reasons that are still valid.) Another point is that Aemon and Alicent are not in each other’s minds, so they don’t know what you know—neither of them truly knows the other’s intentions or limits.
Larys is not stupid, and Aemon even less so—they would have handled this well. Aemon always keeps in mind all the insults Criston Cole hurled at him the first time he came in 111 AC, but the main reason is that Criston is too close to Alicent and especially to Viserys. Aemon doesn’t want to risk being exposed as the mastermind behind Viserys's constant changes, which is also why he asked Viserys to take the Cargyll twins with him.
'Couldn't he have waited a few days for me to have him poisoned?' I thought, as I had decided to wait until I was far from the capital to have Larys poison him.

Yes, you're right, but let's not forget that Laena isn't just any woman - she owns Vhagar and she's not attached to Aemon just yet. It will be some time before she really feels like Princess Laena Targaryen and not Laena Velaryon.
'This can't be happening,' I thought, resisting the urge to slap my forehead as I watched Laenor Velaryon roar in front of the entire court.

He's not afraid of war, he just doesn't want to take an active part in it so soon.

I think he doesn't know it himself yet, but he's got it in him to take whatever he can get while he can.
'The more doubts he has about those around him, the less he'll have about me. The less he trusts them, the more power I'll have over him, which means, by extension, over the entire kingdom,' I thought.
