It’s a lot of work with a lot of risk involved for what could amount to little benefit. You don’t get to choose which animal you become, so it could turn out a bit useless depending on what you get. That being said, it would be extremely useful if you can turn into something common with a lot of mobility like a bird.

I think it’s the opposite in the original. The demon continent was said to be barren due to the high concentrations of ambient mana, although it may actually be beneficial for plants in lesser quantities.
In conclusion, simply expelling my mana into the atmosphere at full power through my hands was still the best method of using up my mana reserves.

Agreed, if this were a DxD or Danmachi fanfic I’d be more tolerant of it, but it doesn’t really work in the ATLA world due to the world’s culture. Additionally, most authors can’t write romance with only one love interest let alone several. IMO, a good romatic relationship in a story requires two things: the love interest needs to have a her own flushed out character/personality and the development of the relationship needs to be believable. You already have the first if you use a character from the story. Harems in fanfics usually accomplish neither or end up focusing on only one of the women. In either case, the harem is pointless. Personally, I’d prefer if the MC went maidenless and focused purely on his own development.
