A gelding is a castrated male horse of any age. A female horse under the age of 3 is most accurately called a filly, though some old-school horse people still call all young horses colts.
They were standing in front of one of the stalls. Leia, their youngest gelding, held her nose close to the gate, enjoying the attention like the princess she was named after.
