Because Hashirama is Asura's reincarnation dude, that's literally the only reason, it's the same reason why Naruto has such high reserves of chakra, being the reincarnation of Asura is the ONLY reason why Hashirama had such high wood release, and his cells kill people when implanted in them. There are plenty of normal wood release users across history, like.. a few dozen over the last couple thousand years, just like any other kekkai genkai.

Hiruzen ain't no where near mastery to the level of kekkai genkai requirements, he might be a master of all chakra natures, but most of that comes from hype, just like him being the strongest hokage

Yeah, you can say that, but this extraordinary wood release is CAUSE it's Hashirama/Asura. Normal wood release still exists, the only reason it isn't shown is mostly cause it's kinda hard to y'know, make a kekkai genkai and everything.

Well, the way anyone does, just like Hashirama did, he could've had earth and water release, and kinda used em together masterfully, to the point where he managed to kinda merge em I guess.

It doesn't though, how many times do I have to say this, kekkai genkai in general might have some kinda of countering effect maybe if you have the specific one that counters it's element. But in general, wood release isn't special, it's just another kekkai genkai
