If the shelter was privately owned, it might be understandable that its residents didn't help the Wildlings. But if it was a public shelter meant to help rebuild humanity's homes, then that's a different story. Those residents didn't fulfill their duty after leaving the shelter, and the Wildlings were left to barely survive by working for them to food and water.

I wasn't saying men aren't treated bad in society. And I wasn't trying to point finger at who gets treated worst. All I was pointing out was that if you feel for the MC you'll understand how it is for some women in society. If you look at the book as whole it did a swap so both sides can understand each. Women will see how it is as a man when their looked at to provide for the family and that people (some not all people) only look at how much you have and their true worth. And men will see how it is to be a woman when their(once again not everyone) looked at to arm candy and to take care of house and children. The list can go on for both sides. It's my fault for not clarifying properly.
I was just thinking the same thing. If you read this book and sympathize or feel bad for the MC then you now understand/feel what most women are treated in normal society.
