well, first major reason is his father mad king Aeyrs. If danys birth isn't necessary than Rhaegar most likely will use Duskendale tragedy to get rid of mad king quite early, may be even earlier, which in return in my view dulls the story and lessens the struggle Rhaegar has to go through. there are many more major reasons, which I will not mention here for the moment.

well, let me tell you Jon or Dany or both, are so important that the very doom of valyria happened so that they could be born {according to my fanfic and may be just may be according to cannon (well thats my theory atleast)} so importance for jon or Dany in my view is immense. on the other hand this particular story is more focused on kinda magical kingdom building. And, if as you suggested , i do remove jon snow from the picture in this fanfic, than it will mean Rhaegar (mc) immediately (when comes of age ) will make deal with tywin(marry cersi) and easily remove his father from throne, because that's most logical thing to do if jon is not needed. which in my view will end the struggle to soon. i dont't want to give mc easypath or shortpath to top.
