I figure in a big village like Konoha, it wouldn't be hard to find certain items in the trash or on the street. imagine how often people lose things, especially lighters and how common torches were in Naruto, especially in a place like a secret hide out. so to answer your question, yes just like that.
Going in, he found a torch and lit it with a lighter he'd found on the street. Going further in, he found what he was looking for. It was one of Orochimarus secret labs. It was divided between a bedroom with a bathroom and kitchen, a research room with gross looking body parts in jars and weird vials, a training room, and finally a storage room with things he would need like Kunai, shuriken, food pills, storage scrolls, and multiple jutsu scrolls that Orochimaru deemed not needed when he escaped Konoha.

Of course as the author of the book, I'm giving myself 5 stars. That being said, I am a newbie writer so expect mitsakes. see what I did there?
