I'd like to add, guns have changed the dynamic of the world, and now MMA fighting IS useful (spy vs spy), but in a world without guns, no one would spend their time practicing their unarmed combat, there are just better things to spend their time on.

this is 100% not true, alot of the martial arts are meant to be used with weapons. MMA is essentially useless in a none competitive environment, because think about it. There is only going to be two situations, one where you are sneak attacking, and cant carry a weapon for whatever reason, you'd be more likely to break someones neck or poison them than to fight fist to fist, and one where you hack the other persons head off with your weapon. When would you go fist to fist? The only time unarmed combat is used is during friendly fights, and that's mostly wrestling, since you DON'T want to hurt the other person. So MMA is mostly a useless combat technique in a society that has a government that cant police its citizens.
