The Beginning - Chapter 1
In a dark mining cave, Zaboru Renkonan opened his eyes, only to be met with a sudden, splitting headache.
"Ughh!"
The pain subsided, but Zaboru's eyes filled with a mix of panic and excitement.
'I'm... reincarnated? In Zaboru Renkonan's body?' he thought. 'It feels like our souls have merged. I'm both Zaboru Renkonan and Zachary Bonisegna now. Damn, to think I reincarnated right when Zaboru walked into this mine! If I had been born as him, maybe things would have been better.'
He grimaced. 'So my body is dead in my old world? Damn it! Who could've guessed getting struck by lightning while wearing advanced VR gear would lead to reincarnation?'
Zaboru groaned internally, unable to fully comprehend his new reality.
'If I'd known this would happen, I wouldn't have let Zaboru's past be so miserable. Sure, it was cool in the game, but now it's my reality. It's hard... I'm sorry, Zaboru.'
A faint sense of comfort came from within—a fragment of Zaboru's original soul. It seemed to assure him it didn't mind, knowing its destiny was greatness.
'Anyway,' Zaboru thought, 'it looks like I'm on break now. That bastard mine owner barely lets me rest because of this body's unique regenerative abilities. With an endurance stat of 10, of course this body is special. But look at all these scars… Oswald, that bastard, enjoys abusing Zaboru because he can heal so quickly.'
His eyes hardened.
"Damn that fucker. I'll make him regret treating me like this. But first, let's see my status. Status!"
A glowing interface materialized before him.

"Damn," Zaboru muttered. "Looks like Zaboru hasn't learned any martial arts yet. Makes sense; in the lore, he only started at age 12, after being freed from slavery."
He reflected on the memories now shared with him by the original Zaboru.
'This world is so much bigger and more detailed than Rising Lives. It's crowded, dangerous, and feels overwhelmingly real. I can't just play recklessly; I'll regret it.'
A loud bell rang out, jolting him from his thoughts.
"Ding, ding, ding!"
It was the signal for the slaves to return to work. Zaboru rose from his shabby cot and trudged toward the mine, but a glimmer of determination sparked in his eyes.
'I'll start practicing Basic Enhancement Breathing now. This body's special; I should be able to handle it.'
Skill Name: Basic Enhancement Breathing
Type: Breathing Technique
Effect: Slightly increases strength, endurance, and agility.
Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆
'If I master this early, I'll grow stronger. Then, when the time comes, I'll crush Oswald and escape this hellhole.'
For the next 12 hours, Zaboru mined relentlessly. Despite the grueling work, he maintained Basic Enhancement Breathing the entire time. His body grew more fatigued, and the strain on his mind was immense, but he could feel the benefits building within him.
By the end of his shift, Zaboru collapsed in exhaustion.
"Sigh... finally done. But now I have to face Oswald. That bastard loves his torture sessions. Just wait—I'll get stronger and crush his creepy grin."
As expected, Oswald summoned Zaboru to his "torture room," a space filled with weapons and cruel instruments. Zaboru was escorted there by one of Oswald's personal guards.
'This could be an opportunity,' Zaboru thought. 'I'll use a breathing method from my arsenal. It'll increase my strength when I'm in pain. Sure, it'll hurt more, but... no pain, no gain.'
Skill Name: Masochist Dream Breathing
Type: Breathing Technique
Effect: Enhances strength, endurance, and agility after enduring significant pain.
Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆
Oswald greeted him with a sinister grin.
The first strike came without warning. The hammer slammed into Zaboru's ribs, sending him sprawling to the ground. Pain exploded through his body, but he bit back a scream.
Oswald laughed. "Good start. Let's move on."
He grabbed a spiked whip, lashing it across Zaboru's back. The barbs tore into his flesh, leaving jagged trails of blood. Zaboru clenched his fists, focusing on his breathing technique as waves of agony coursed through him.
Oswald grew more excited as he switched weapons. A heated branding iron seared Zaboru's shoulder, filling the room with the stench of burnt flesh. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Oswald taunted.
Zaboru remained silent, his body trembling. Every strike, every burn fueled his technique, making him stronger.
The torture continued with cruel efficiency. Oswald jabbed a barbed steel rod into Zaboru's thigh, slammed a chain against his legs, and used serrated blades to leave shallow cuts across his chest. Each tool left its mark, but Zaboru endured, his mind focused on the strength he was gaining.
Finally, after two hours, Oswald dropped the cudgel he had been using. "Huft, I'm done for now. Guards! Take this freak back to his hole."
The guards hauled Zaboru's battered body out of the room, throwing him onto the cold floor of his cell. "You should just die already, freak," one muttered.
Zaboru lay motionless for a moment, his body screaming in pain. Then, a faint smile crossed his bloodied lips. 'That hurt like hell... but the gains are worth it.'
With great effort, he sat up and began another breathing technique to accelerate his recovery
Skill Name: Relaxing Breathing Technique
Type: Breathing Technique
Effect: Slightly increases recovery rate and calms the mind.
Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆
With his body slowly recovering, Zaboru began planning his next step.
'I need to start learning martial arts. Boxing is simple, and I can build from there.'
Martial Art: Normal Boxing
Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆
Requirements:
Strength: 2 (Achieved)Agility: 2 (Achieved)
To Master:
1000x Left Jab1000x Right Jab1000x Left Hook1000x Right Hook1000x Right Straight1000x Left Straight1000x Left Uppercut1000x Right Uppercut2000x Boxing Side Step1000x Weaving
Zaboru grinned. "Seems easy enough. With my traits Training Maniac and Throwing Hands, I'll be learning this faster than anyone."
The Training Maniac trait gave him a natural boost in adapting to repetitive exercises, while Throwing Hands enhanced his muscle memory for hand-to-hand combat. Each punch felt instinctive, precise, and powerful.
He started with 2000 combinations of left and right punches, shadowboxing in the cramped room. Despite the lack of equipment, his movements were fluid. His body responded eagerly, the muscle memory from his traits kicking in.
Sweat poured down his face, but his mind brimmed with satisfaction. "This is nothing like the game," he said, a flicker of joy breaking through his usual grim determination. "This is real."
This is only the beginning
