Sebastian sat beside Julian as the Medi focused on preserving him.
The two other knights that had stayed back were behind standing right next to the prisoner.
Julian had long since lost consciousness but thankfully the bleeding had stopped… mostly.
From where he sat Sebas could see Vlad and a couple more knights engaged with the abominations that surrounded them.
Bellahm was somewhere behind him about to make contact with the people occupying the underground tunnel.
Hopefully, they had made it out in time, but he doubts that. There are probably some horrors still hidden in there which should have slowed down their pace significantly.
Maybe if he and the men around him had made it inside with them things would have been different…
"5248... 5842?"
No. He was certain of what he had heard. Then why had it been incorrect? Unless…
That wasn't likely either what could she possibly gain from that? Miss Betty had been working at the orphanage for up to 9 years…
It just meant there had to be a malfunction somewhere…, or maybe he had just forgotten the code.
It might have seemed a casual thing but to Sebas forgetting was an abomination. He had always prided himself on his retention and memory capacity. That was the entire reason why he had been chosen to assist the brute that was Captain Faux.
It was that the man was severely air-head, although…
It had more to do with the fact that Sebas was just a completely different beast. He was one of the very first orphans the government had taken in and chosen to train from birth, after his parents– who were high-ranking government officials, had passed away. Of course, his parents had given their consent before their death, and to be honest he wouldn't have had it any other way.
He had proved to possess superhuman cognition on par with or even greater than the genius of old. There were very few that could still contend with him in this area. Maybe three or four.
Hence he had been able to grow much more powerful at a frightening rate, even possessing a Celestial Nature that had never been recorded in human history– the Wood release.
Now at the age of 13, he was considered one of the most potentially useful members of the government, just like Julian.
Although in terms of combat ability, he was only as strong as a Retainer, what made him Cardinal was his mental prowess which had proved vital in the operations of the government's Doves.
He wasn't fond of mistakes, or lapses in his memories, which just made the possibility of him forgetting the code so unlikely.
It wasn't impossible though, there were memories of himself he couldn't fully recall, but those were old forgotten memories.
"Haaa…"
Sebastian sighed a little. Some of his men had died down there. If only they had gotten into the tunnels on time… the fact was he couldn't help but blame himself.
It wasn't even the deaths that bothered him, it was the fact that something like this could repeat in a mission leading to the possible demise of his team.
There was no way he was going to let that happen.
"Thanks a lot."
Sebastian suddenly heard. When he turned he could see the Medi still tending to Julian, trying to control his bleeding. She had a pale smile on her face as she stared down at the wound on his comrade's side.
"Huh?"
"It's all thanks to you we were able to make it out there alive… so don't focus on the losses, remember them but don't focus on them."
She said.
What did she mean by that? He wasn't affected by the deaths… rather it was his incompetence that had led to their deaths that ached him.
'What those she think she's saying.'
He thought as he turned to steal glances at the young woman. Her clear white skin was slick with sweat, glistening slightly as the pale sunlight kissed it. She had had dark pupils with eyes that slightly curved upwards with a slit. She was tied in a bun with a soft smile spread mildly on her cheeks.
Immediately Sebas turned away as he felt his cheeks slowly heat up.
'Hey Kid?!'
Sebas suddenly heard.
'Yes sir.'
'Can you please explain to me what the hell I'm seeing right now.'
Faux said, his exhaustion seeping out of his every word.
'What exactly are you seeing sir?'
Faux then went on to narrate his fight thus far. As Faux spoke Sebastian's face only grew paler and paler with each line.
'She can control the two Wills, how was that even possible–'
Just then it dawned on him, sweat falling down the sides of his face as he slowly turned to face the prisoner behind him.
She had already taken the black bag off her face revealing a sinister grin. Before he could even move a muscle, he felt something pierce his chest.
His eyes widened in shock utterly terrified. The knights that had been left behind had their blades drawn but placed them on the necks of Julian and the young woman who tried to heal him.
'How hadn't he noticed.'
The men lacked any semblance of consciousness, their eyes stark white and lightless.
Before he could even scream the blonde nurse twisted the hand she had placed in Sebastian's chest before pulling it out.
With a smile, she brought her blood-stained hands to her lips and licked them.
"Odd child."
She said before getting on her feet.
Warm blood flowed from the wound in Sebastian's chest, looking beneath him.
Moments later he was lying flat on his face, struggling to get a good view of the nurse.
The knights beside her struck their hostages with the pommel of their blades. Then they silently picked them up, placing them on their shoulders.
"Let's go."
As he said before hopping right off the platform, both knights followed right after her.
As his vision darkened, Sebas tried to make sense of what had occurred. The binding he had used on her was meant to prevent her from using Celestial Will. Even just a minuscule amount would cause a tree to bloom in her.
So how did she escape, no matter how he tried to make sense of it, it wasn't adding up. The lady used Celestial Will when they had flown before.
Perplexed he considered what had just occurred and the revelation his Captain had made.
'N-no way, how is that even-'
Before he could even complete the thought, his vision faded to black.
